Chapter 65: Shall We?
HELENA.
I shook my head, and realized the waitress was still waiting for my order, so I just ordered some pasta and a side salad. A very mild cocktail to go with it, and I was done.
I basked in the silence of the restaurant, occasionally disrupted by the laughter of some teenage polished girls. I glanced in their direction, feeling a wave of depression.
There were five, all looking in their late teenage years. Each of them looked…. gorgeous. They were discussing about some boy that thought he could play all of them at once.
Oh, to have such a friend group.
I focused my attention back on my phone, trying to figure out what trouble Aaron was talking about, when all the lights on the restaurant went off suddenly. Only the golden glow of the light accessories shone, casting a royal glow over the restaurant.
Several waiters dashed out of the kitchen, carrying trays of food towards my table. I turned around, believing that there was probably another booth behind me.
Nope, there wasn't.
I wanted to protest and say I didn't order anything, but I caught sight of Aaron at the last minute and decided to keep calm. I watched as he expertly swung himself around, carrying the last tray of food and placing it in front of me.
Beside the tray was a rose, and I picked it up and smelled it. It smelled amazing.
The waiters all filed out of the dining area back into the kitchen, leaving me to wonder what the hell just happened.
Then, Aaron waltzed back in, completely dressed in a suit piece, and carrying a package in his hands.
He leaned over, placing the package in my hands. 'Here you go, mi lady." He smirked.
Oh dear.
I took the package with trembling fingers. What the hell was he doing?
After a while, he sat down in front of me, and the lights came back on. I sat frozen, a little too stunned to continue.
'What was that?" I whispered. I was beginning to get looks from different women in the restaurant, and I didn't like such attention.
'What was what?" He replied, opening up one of the trays. I didn't even take time to glance at the platter. He looked a little….too good.
Like he really prepared for this.
His suit was tailored to perfection, and his hair looked like he just came out of the shower. I swallowed.
'Is this like…a date? You would've told me to prepare at least." I looked so bland.
He quirked his brows. 'If I had openly asked you out on a date on a Friday night, would you have come?" He smiled knowingly.
I hesitated, biting my lip.
He had a point, I really wouldn't.
Sigh, Helena.
'Don't worry about how you look. You're always stunning." He said, still smiling.
My heart jumped into my throat. I was literally putting on a yellow shirt and black corporate trousers. Nothing befitting for such a place.
Regardless, I said, 'Thank you."
I turned my attention to the platter and gasped. Could today get any better?
There was a huge mountain of pasta in the middle, tossed in Alfredo sauce. It was my absolute favorite. Next to the pasta were different kinds of cured meat, salami, ham, even…bacon. Cheeses were scattered beautifully around the meat, adding this beautiful shade to the colors. Different veggies, artichokes, red peppers and olives gave the platter this signature freshness.
My stomach rumbled in approval.
This was perfect.
I glanced up at Aaron, darting my eyes between the bacon and him. He smirked. 'Don't like bacon anymore?"
'Of course I do." I muttered. I just didn't understand why you went out of your way to do all this.
You know exactly why you idiot. My conscience pricked me.
'Eat up, Helena. The food wouldn't eat itself." He nudged me.
I took a deep breath, and forked the pasta. I could probably die from how good this food tasted.
'So, tell me what happened at work today." Aaron said, munching on a piece of ham.
'Well, a riot happened yesterday. I don't think I said anything because of how tired I was, but we were able to solve the issue today. I also got elected manager." I said, winking.
'That's amazing. Now you'll be able to buy more bread for us." He smiled mischievously. I glared at him. 'I'm proud of you Helena. You've come so far." His expression softened, catching me off guard.
What was with this man and catching me off guard?
I silently whispered a thank you, continuing my food. I told him everything that happened that day, including the rat that appeared in my office in the afternoon and tried to steal my phone.
That was probably one of the cutest things I got to experience in a long while.
'You're a beautiful soul Helena. Remember that."
AARON.
'Who's the lucky girl?" Linda said, walking towards my work station.
She had become increasingly friendly over the past few weeks, and it made me uncomfortable. Maybe because I could sense her arousal whenever she got near.
I knew she had some sort of attraction towards me, but I really didn't care. I wasn't interested in her at all. Not even as a friend.
'Hm?" I asked nonchalantly.
'I heard you're planning a surprise for someone. It's a girl right?" She asked again, leaning closer.
'Move back."
'Huh?" She said blankly.
'You're too close. The oil will burn your skin." I was making fried calamari, and she was a little too close for comfort.
'Oh." She said, moving backwards.
'Better. And yes, it's for a girl." I'd give her the benefit of doubt at least.
'That's nice. I wish someone would think about me that way." Her expression fell instantly, and she walked away.
Was I a bit too harsh? Maybe. But I honestly didn't want to give her false hopes.
My heart was with someone else, even if said person didn't know yet.
She would, soon.
'Order up!" I said, as soon as I finished making the calamari. It was 11:30, and I had a break in 15 minutes. One more order to cook.
My final dish before lunchtime was pasta and Alfredo sauce. Alright then, let's get to work. I grabbed my butter, flour, heavy cream, parmesan cheese, garlic, salt, pepper and nutmeg, and happily walked to my workstation.
Today was going to be a special day. I set my ingredients down on the counter, and got to melting my butter. My mind drifted to thoughts of Helena.
I was going to surprise her tonight. She had been working so hard she hardly had time for herself. Tomorrow, I will take her out. Somewhere out of town. Out of this world even. Now that I thought about it, being a werewolf gave you a different insight on the world in general.
Luna suggested I take a few charms with me to keep Helena safe. I was still mad at her for trying to manipulate her with magic, but I didn't have a choice.
