Chapter 56: Scary Encounters.
CALEB.
My eyes strayed towards the corner of the king sized bed in the middle of the room. White sheets were splayed neatly on top of the mattress.
I spotted a faint glint coming from under the bed. I looked down and saw a bright pair of blue eyes, staring at me in fear.
Brielle.
She shuddered, as if trying to warn me. I stood confused for a moment.
'What's wrong?"
She would never play a prank like this, would she?
She didn't respond, just kept shaking under the bed. Her eyes shifted behind me, and they widened even further.
I turned around slowly, my oxygen levels depleting. It was getting hard to breathe.
I knew why immediately.
Behind me, stood a 7 foot tall human-like creature, with fur covering its entire frame. Huge jaws, covered in equally huge and sharp teeth graced its face. Its eyes were red, glowing. I traced my eyes down its arm. Sharp claws ended its extremities.
A fucking werewolf.
No wonder Brielle was so shook.
Without warning, the werewolf snarled, and threw me across the room. Brielle covered her mouth, in an effort to hide the scream trying to escape.
I groaned, trying to get up.
My ribs were badly broken.
What the fuck is going on around here?
The wolf growled, and charged at me again.
I was able to dodge, but only slightly. It scraped a piece of flesh from my side. I winced, staggering backwards.
Brielle had hidden completely under the bed, covering the opening with the sheets.
I groaned, as the wolf speared into me again. It aimed for my neck, and I grabbed the lamp beside the bed, blocking its razor sharp teeth.
The wolf was strong, and I was losing strength. I gazed into its eyes. Emotionless. Like it was a puppet, used to satisfy a greater force's desires.
'Magnus." I said without thinking.
The wolf paused in its attack, and stared at me. I took the opening, even though I was confused as hell, and scurried to my feet.
The wolf still didn't move.
Huh?
Brielle made a noise, and slid a knife to my feet. I picked it up, still wary of the werewolf, and examined it.
Pure silver. The handle was crafted with mahogany, which was odd. They don't make knives like this anymore. I glanced at Brielle with a puzzled expression, and slowly tucked the knife away.
I could get answers later.
The wolf growled again, seemingly out of its initial trance and prepared to attack me once more. I shifted in my position, holding the knife ready.
'Magnus…." The name slipped out of my mouth again..
The heck?
The wolf snarled, and began to howl hysterically. The sound was so loud, I had to cover my ears. The wolf's bright red eyes faded into a pale pink, and it turned towards the window on the far end of the room, and jumped out.
That was it.
Calmness returned to the room, serene and enjoyable. Unlike the eerie feeling I had earlier.
I reached down under the bed and called out to Brielle.
'What happened? Who was that?"
She poked out her head, looking around the room. 'He's gone?"
'Yes, apparently." I glanced at the gash on my sides. Yep, it was bad.
She took a deep breath and slowly crawled from under the bed, and only then did I notice her ripped clothes. She held her bra up with her hands, and her skirt barely covered her thighs. My blood boiled even more.
She gasped at the sight of my blood dripping, and her face fell even more. 'I'm sorry." She muttered.
'You still haven't answered my question. What the hell happened and who the fuck was that?" I sat down on the bed, tying a piece of cloth around my ribs. I needed to get to a hospital.
Brielle exhaled, sat on the bed close to me and said,
'That was Michael."
Please tell me she's joking.
Michael was literally her male best friend in college. They'd been friends since kindergarten and somehow always winded up together. They were very close, sometimes a little too close for my liking.
'You're bullshitting me." I spat, cleaning off the blood on my lips.
'I'm not. I…." She exhaled again. 'Look, I'll tell you everything that happened if you promise not to go after him. Something really weird is going on and I don't want him to get hurt."
I glanced at her.
'He most likely tried to kill you and you're still defending him?" I said lowly, my voice dropping an octave at the last question.
'I'm not justifying his actions, yes he did try to kill me, but it's not him. Didn't you see? What if Kyle was right? Werewolves exist. We can't overlook that it's a fact."
'Brielle, I asked you a question." I was too weak to start thinking about all of this.
'Look, I came here with Michael to wait for the others, Yuji and Loraine. They should be here any minute." She glanced at her wrist watch. 'I and Michael were just chilling, talking about school and some really annoying classes we had during the last week, and he just….went berserk."
She got up, and walked towards the window, pointing at a specific tree in the horizon. 'There. He kept staring there. Then he transformed. I don't know what it was with Caleb, but Michael needs help. Just like Kyle."
I stared at the floor. Brielle was right, but I wasn't gonna admit that yet.
'So you're trying to say Michael might have been bitten by a werewolf too?"
'Yes. He complained of the same things Kyle did a week ago."
'Interesting."
I got up, limping on the left side, and left the room. Brielle followed, and we left the hotel.
'Where did you find the knife?" I said, clutching my ribs as she drove to the hospital. It was starting to hurt, really bad.
'Since Kyle started his seizures, I got one for myself just in case." She shrugged.
'Didn't think it'd be useful to share the tip huh?" I grumbled.
'Come on, how do we even know it's even effective?" She defended.
'He seemed a little spooked out by it."
'You didn't use it on him." She pointed out.
Fair point, but still.
We got to the hospital, and I jumped out of the car, staggering towards Dr. Flora's office. I caught sight of her rushing out of a ward close to Kyle's. She looked distraught, a little flushed. I crinkled my brows. That's weird. Dr. Flora is usually very composed.
She brushed past me, not sparing me a glance.
'Dr. Flora!" I called.
She stopped in her tracks, and turned to face me, raising her eyes in surprise.
'Oh my goodness, Caleb! What happened? You're bleeding profusely! Nurse!" She said, frantically running her eyes over my ribs and chest.
I had a few wounds there too.
