Chapter 164: Anticipation.
HELENA.
The night before my mating ceremony with Aaron felt like I was floating in a whirlwind of emotions. The excitement was like a fizzy soda pop—bubbling up inside me and threatening to spill over. I was trying to calm my racing heart as I lay in bed, but my thoughts were doing a wild dance, fueled by pure joy and giddy anticipation.
Luna had been a bundle of teasing energy all evening. She'd bounced into my room earlier, eyes sparkling like the stars outside, with a cheeky grin plastered on her face. 'Nervous?" she'd asked, her tone playful. I'd rolled my eyes, trying to act nonchalant, but I couldn't help the smile tugging at my lips. Or the way my heart was threatening me.
'Of course not," I'd replied, though the flutter in my stomach told a different story. 'Why would I be nervous about something as monumental as getting mated to Aaron?"
Luna had laughed, the sound bright and infectious. 'Oh, come on, Helena. It's not just any ceremony. It's a mating ceremony, and you're marrying the Alpha. There's a lot more to it than just saying ‘I do.'" She'd wiggled her eyebrows in a way that made me snort with laughter.
I glanced around my room, decorated with a mix of traditional werewolf symbols and human touches. The contrast made me smile. I'd spent countless hours preparing for this day, ensuring that everything was perfect. The ceremonial gown was laid out on the bed, a beautiful blend of elegance and tradition. I couldn't help but admire the way the delicate fabric shimmered under the soft glow of the bedside lamp. I remembered how nervous I was picking this out. But it was the only dress that seemed to define me.
The gown was truly stunning. The bodice was made from a soft, shiny fabric that sparkled in the light. It had beautiful silver embroidery in delicate vine and leaf patterns, giving it a magical look.
The gown featured a sweetheart neckline, decorated with tiny crystals that added a gentle sparkle. The bodice fit snugly and then flowed into a full skirt made from layers of sheer, soft tulle. The layers gave the skirt a light, airy feel, making it move gracefully.
The skirt billowed out from the waist and brushed the floor. It had a delicate lace trim along the hem, adding a touch of classic charm.
At the back, the gown had a long, flowing train that trailed behind me. The train was decorated with small beads that shimmered softly.
Overall, the gown was a beautiful mix of elegance and tradition, perfect for the special ceremony.
The very very special ceremony.
Veronica was sad that she wouldn't be able to come, but I promised her that I'd take enough pictures.
My mind drifted back to the moment Aaron had asked me to be his mate. It had been one of those rare, perfect moments where everything felt right. We were alone in the garden, the moon casting a silver glow over us. Aaron had taken my hands in his, looking deep into my eyes with a serious expression. I'd felt my breath catch in my throat when he'd said, 'Helena, I want you to be my mate. Will you?"
The sentence was simple, but it was the emotions with which he said it that made my heart stop.
I'd been overwhelmed with joy, my heart feeling like it was about to burst. I'd said yes without hesitation, tears of happiness streaming down my face. It was the most beautiful moment of my life. And when the elders agreed, my joy had soared even higher. It felt like a dream come true, and now here we were, on the brink of that dream becoming reality.
I hadn't expected this. At all.
The whole thing had spiraled quickly. One moment, I was just a girl trying to fit into a world of werewolves, and the next, I was preparing for a mating ceremony with the Alpha. The thrill of it all made me feel more alive than ever. It was as if life had decided to throw me into the deep end of a magical adventure, and I was clinging on with both hands, loving every second of it.
Luna's voice broke through my reverie. 'You know, Helena, I bet you're going to look stunning tomorrow. Aaron's going to be speechless when he sees you." She was sitting on the edge of the bed, her expression soft and genuine.
I laughed, the sound echoing through the room. 'I'm not sure about that. I'm more worried about tripping over my own feet or saying something completely ridiculous."
Luna shook her head, her smile widening. 'Don't worry about that. We've had plenty of practice with you being graceful." She winked at me, and I playfully threw a pillow in her direction.
'Very funny," I said, trying to keep my tone light. 'But seriously, Luna, what if I mess up? What if I don't live up to everyone's expectations?"
Luna's expression softened, and she patted my hand reassuringly. 'You're already more than anyone could expect. Aaron chose you because he loves you for who you are. The ceremony is just a formality. What matters is the love you share."
Her words were comforting, and I took a deep breath, trying to steady my racing heart. I could almost see tomorrow's ceremony in my mind—Aaron standing there, looking every bit the majestic Alpha he was, the crowd of werewolves watching with eager eyes. The thought made my heart race with excitement and nerves.
'What if I mess up the vows?" I asked, half-serious and half-joking. 'What if I forget the words and end up saying something completely embarrassing?"
Luna grinned, her eyes twinkling mischievously. 'Well, if that happens, just remember that werewolves have a sense of humor. They'll probably laugh it off and think it's charming."
I snorted, shaking my head. 'Great. Just what I need—my first impression as the new mate being one of utter embarrassment."
We both burst into laughter, the sound echoing through the room and easing some of the tension I'd been feeling. Luna had a knack for making everything seem less daunting, and her teasing was exactly what I needed to keep my spirits high.
As the night wore on, I found myself lying in bed, staring up at the ceiling with a contented smile. My thoughts wandered back to Aaron—his warm smile, his strong arms around me, and the way he made me feel safe and cherished. I was excited beyond words to begin this new chapter of our lives together.
The anticipation of tomorrow was almost too much to handle. I imagined the ceremony unfolding—the music, the vows, the heartfelt promises. It was going to be magical, and the fact that I was about to become Aaron's mate made everything even more special. The sense of belonging and love that came with it was indescribable.
Luna's playful voice interrupted my thoughts again. 'You'll be the most beautiful bride any werewolf has ever seen. And Aaron will be the proudest Alpha ever. And I'll be the sweetest godmother ever."
I chuckled, feeling a warm glow spread through me. 'Thank you, Luna. You've been a huge support, and I don't know what I'd do without you. And we are not having kids just yet." I added, though I was anticipating it.
Luna stood up, giving me a reassuring smile. 'Don't worry about a thing. Tomorrow is going to be perfect. Just focus on the love you share with Aaron and enjoy every moment. And you will have kids."
As Luna left the room, I snuggled under the covers, feeling a mix of excitement and contentment. The night before my wedding was filled with dreams of a beautiful future, and I couldn't wait to step into that future with Aaron by my side.
With a final glance at the ceremonial gown on the bed, I closed my eyes and let the anticipation carry me away into a peaceful sleep, knowing that tomorrow would be a day to remember for the rest of our lives.
Except, it would probably also be my worst.
