Chapter 83: Things would never remain the same
AARON.
'You can do that?" She stared at me wide eyed. I moved closer to her, backing her up against the shelf she had been combing through. I placed my hand on the shelf, just above her head and treated my eyes over her neck. 'I can. If you'd want me to."
Of course I can.
I just need to bite you. Mark you. And I'd do it in a way you wouldn't forget in a long, long time.
I felt her knees shaking.
'Would it be painful?
'It doesn't take much, but trust me, the process is where the pain comes. I wouldn't want to put you through that."
That's what I ended up saying. Her face fell, and she stared at her feet.
'Oh. I feel like being a werewolf is hard enough. I'm barely surviving as a human." She laughed nervously. I lifted her chin, so that her eyes would meet mine.
'You're surviving well enough from my vantage point. Don't ever say that again."
Would it kill me if I just kissed her here? The library was dark and quiet, but it didn't feel scary. It was cold, but the warmth from both our bodies was enough. All I could see was her eyes. Those eyes that made my muscles tensed whenever she looked at me. That voice that could calm a million of my nerves without even trying. And those lips…
'And if I do?" She whispered, a flash of desire in her eyes. My pulse quickened.
I wasn't the only one trying to control myself.
'I'll just have to shut you up then." My voice matched hers, our breaths mingling with each other. I leaned closer, unable to resist her scent. It was intoxicating.
'How?" It was a faint sound, and if not for my highly sensitive ears, I might not have heard it.
'How?"
I echoed, smirking. At this point, I didn't care anymore.
The next moment, my lips crashed down on hers, and my hands moved instinctively to her waist. I pulled her close, and her hands traveled to the back of my neck as she returned the kiss. That was all the invitation I needed.
She dropped her flashlight, holding on to me for support. She'd have dropped to the ground from how her knees were trembling.
The beast inside me was unleashed, and the kiss turned more aggressive, more wanting. Her lips were soft and hard to resist, and each second spent on them sent jolts of electricity coursing through my veins. It took a lot of effort not to bite them.
Our breaths became ragged, and she moaned softly into my mouth.
I pulled her even closer.
The world around us seemed to have been forgotten, as we were both lost in the world we created.
She pulled back from the kiss, gasping and trying to hold herself steady.
She gazed up at me, and in those eyes, I knew things would never remain the same.
'Wow." She whispered. 'I…um.."
'Shh.." I placed my fingers on her lips, smiling softly. 'Do you still feel like you're barely surviving?" I grabbed her chin.
'No, I feel alive." She returned her gaze to mine. My heart skipped several beats again. It was like our eyes said everything our mouths couldn't at that moment. I pulled back, increasing the distance between us. Any more seconds and I'd lose all control.
I bent down to pick up her flashlight when a loud grunt blasted into my ears. I whipped my head towards where I believed was the source, but there was no one there. Helena was still looking at the shelves.
'Did you hear something?"
She turned to look at me, a little confused.
'No, why? Did you hear something? What did you hear? You do know that if you hear something and I don't it means you actually heard it." She looked around frantically, and started panicking.
'Shh, relax. I don't think I heard anything." I tried to calm her.
'Don't lie. If you heard anything, let's go find Luna. She's in a better position to deal with whatever it was." She said, her eyes wide with fear.
I nodded. 'Okay. There's nothing in here anyways." And I was tired.
We left the Historical references section and moved through the halls, with Helena walking in front of me. She held her flashlight, pointing towards the flight of stairs that led to the second floor.
'I don't wanna go up there." She paused, trembling. I walked up to her, grabbing her shoulders.
'I'm here with you, okay? Nothing's gonna happen. Let's find Luna." I tried to be as calm as possible, but even I sensed it. Something was emanating strong energy, and I couldn't tell if it was Luna, or something else. Regardless, I'd protect Helena with every fiber of my being.
We got closer to the second floor, and I heard the loud grunt again, only this time, it was more of a growl. Helena seemed to have heard it too, because she froze, glancing at me with trepidation. 'Wait.."
'What was that?" She whispered.
'I can't tell. Let's keep going." I just hoped Luna wasn't in trouble.
We inched closer to the second floor, each step heightening my senses and making me more aware of the environment. I could feel the danger, as if it was waiting for us to step on its tail.
'We're here. Luna said Art of the Ancients right?" Helena whispered, turning to look at me.
'I don't know, I wasn't paying attention. Stand behind me." I said, walking in front of her in a protective motion.
The aisle was dark, darker than normal. For a second I thought it was a demon, but demons have a characteristic smell, Sulphur. That smell wasn't here. What I detected was something more like mould, and rotten meat.
Wait, that didn't make sense.
'Do you hear that?" Helena asked.
'Hear what?"
In that exact moment, I was hauled backwards by a strong force, sending me crashing against shelves of books, breaking each one. The only sound that came to mind was Helena shrieking in fear.
Shit.
