Chapter 75: Intruders.
AARON
I woke up with a start.
My eyes darted around the dimly lit room, and my senses were on high alert. I calmed down after noticing the familiar bottles of potion, and a sling bag hung on the dressing mirror.
I was in Luna's room.
I looked down at the mattress. How nice. Luna actually let me sleep on the mattress.
Her mattress. I checked the bed for any sort of needles. Hm. So far so good.
A sharp squeal made me turn my head sharply, almost too sharply. I thought my neck was going to break.
Tyrus floated out of her bed at the far end of the room, grinning at me. She held a smirk as if to say, ‘Hello, scary cat.'
As if things couldn't get worse.
'Hey there Tyrus. Don't make me feel worse than I already did." The memories of their laughter still made me feel uncomfortable. She did what I could assume was a laugh, and remained silent, just floating, meditating…
'Seen Luna and Helena anywhere?" I could sit up, but my legs felt like they were held down by dozens of concrete blocks.
And that was a whole lot.
She shook her head in disapproval. Hm.
I tried checking the time, but Luna literally didn't have a clock in her room. I thought clocks were everywhere in this house.
As if on cue, Tyrus poofed out of the room, and returned with a digital clock. The time on the screen glowed. 5pm.
Helena was still at work, so where was Luna?
Probably out hunting?
Unlikely.
She doesn't go into the woods unless it's a challenge. Speaking of which…..
A loud bang outside the room shook me to the core. My ears perked up, and I listened in on the conversation outside.
'Search everywhere. We have to find her!" I heard a deep voice say from the living room. I heard four other footsteps, somewhat identical.
Five men, trained with one motive. Probably to rob us, or they were hired assassins. But something stuck out.
Her?
It certainly is not Helena. And if it was Luna, these people didn't know who, or rather, what they were toying with. A loud crash, a short bang. They were destroying the house.
I closed my eyes, trying to regain the sensation in my legs. I needed to get out there. Tyrus squeaked in horror, obviously aware of the chaos going on outside.
'Relax. Just don't go out there." I said quietly. She nodded vigorously and dived straight into her bed, covering herself with the sheets and trembling. I focused my energy on trying to move, as I heard sounds of their footsteps getting closer and closer. I was getting impatient.
I could feel my toes, and kept wiggling them until slowly, the sensation returned to my calves, and my thighs.
'Checked in here yet?" I heard one of their voices outside the door. I still couldn't move my hips.
Shit.
'No, the door seems locked."
'Then bust it down! Is it anything special?"
That was just the magical barrier. I knew Luna wouldn't want to put anything too special, and after a few tries, they'd break down the door. It was designed to keep magical creatures out, not humans.
The sound of heavy metal clanking against the door increased the adrenaline pumping into my system, and at the last second, my hips regained their motion.
'Tyrus! Under the bed!" I yelled, jumping off the bed at the same time they broke the door down. I slipped on a t-shirt, walking around casually as they barged in, aiming guns and yelling orders.
'Hey man, we said get on the floor!" One of them, who I assumed was probably the second in command, yelled at me. I crossed my arms and smirked, stretching my stiff legs.
'Acting all tough ay?" Another one, who looked a lot more stubborn walked closer to me, placing the gun just a few inches from my stomach. 'We'll blow your brains out, pretty boy." He whispered, and I scrunch my nose.
He smelled like cigarettes, alcohol, and days of built up bacteria. Disgusting.
'Alright boys, I don't know who or what you are, neither do I know what you're searching for. But I don't care because this is private property. Which means you need to leave. Understood?" I said as calmly, and as casually as I could, earning myself confused and angry stares from each of them. I scanned each of them with my eyes. There was nothing magical about either. They were all…human. So who could they be searching for?
They all stood in a daze, until one of them stepped forward, chuckling. 'You might think this is a game. But we're not leaving until we find who we want. So why don't you step aside and allow us to do what we came for?" He said, tapping his rifle on the ground slowly. He was significantly taller than the others, and had on more protective gear. His aura was far more than theirs too. I noticed a faint scar on his left eye, even underneath the mask.
I walked closer to him. 'And what if I don't?" My voice dropped an octave. He flinched slightly at the sudden change in my tone, but stood his ground. Instead, he walked even closer. I could smell his fear, alongside his anger.
Interesting.
'Then we'd just have to put some holes in you then." He said menacingly, stepping back a huge distance and suddenly the other four men aimed their rifles at me, waiting for his word. I suddenly became aware of where we were. If we destroyed Luna's room, she may never forgive me.
'Cocky bastards." I chuckled, walking towards the door. 'Bullets? You should have come better prepared." I said, trying to keep their attention while slowly exiting the room. Not to mention Tyrus was still in there.
'You're interesting. Most people would have run away by now. This would be fun." The leader said, following me into the hall. His four minions followed suit, and I exhaled inwardly. Helena's room was all the way upstairs, so that was safe.
'Well, in case you haven't noticed, I'm not most people." I said, making air quotes around 'most people."
He laughed dryly, returning his expression to seriousness almost immediately.
'Fire."
Bullets flew in all directions at once. I leaped into the air, extending my claws and baring my teeth. The bullets followed my movements, but I was careful enough not to let any of them pierce me. I grabbed the first guy's rifle and tore it in half. He gasped, and I bared my teeth, tossing one part of the gun straight for the leader, who stood on the far end of the hall, watching.
He side stepped it, clenching his teeth. The remaining three tried to fire, but I maneuvered and snatched three of their rifles, tossing it towards the leader again. The four minions stood huddled together in one corner of the hall, and I smashed what was left of their rifles. If I didn't have a good reason, I'd have killed them. But this little fella in my head told me not to. For once, I'd listen to him.
It'd be too tedious cleaning off blood from the carpets anyways.
'What are you?" The leader said, walking towards me. He slung his rifle on his shoulder, probably aware that it wouldn't stand a chance against me.
'I'm not something you should be curious about, more of something you should be scared of." I said, growling. He watched me carefully, as if examining a creature he hadn't seen before.
Except that was exactly what I was.
'Now leave."
I said simply. Something about him ticked me off, and the longer I stared at him, the more bloodthirsty I got.
It felt like I knew him.
