Chapter 93: Who said I couldn't cook here?
HELENA.
Luna thought it'd be a good idea to try out a dish from Lunaville.
The dish consisted of different kinds of meat, all placed in a sauce made out of herbs and spices.
One glance at my kitchen, and it was obvious she was not a chef.
Then again, she wouldn't let Aaron do the cooking, so we pretty much had no choice.
The island was splattered with different liquids I lost count of, and the floor wasn't spared either.
'Luna…that's not how to.."
'Shut up. I started making this dish when you were still a cub. Don't tell me what to do." She growled at him.
'It's your call, but you can't cut parsley like that. It'll end up all chunky inside your food. And it's supposed to be a garnish." Aaron muttered.
I glanced at him, smiling sheepishly and pulling him out of the kitchen. 'She's gonna cut your head off if you correct her again." I said as soon as we were out of earshot.
'Dang right I will."
Oops,
I had always been left alone as a child. By my friends, my teachers, and at a particular point, my parents.
I grew up having no one to lean on, so I learned to fend for myself very quickly.
Sometimes, I wonder how I even became friends with Veronica. She was practically the only friend I had.
'Are you going to leave me too?" The question came out unintended. Aaron looked at me with a ‘what the hell are you talking about?' look. I was on the brink of tears. He pulled me close, in a tight hug.
'I'm not going anywhere without you, Helena. Don't ever think that I'll leave you. And that brings me to my question. Would you wanna go with me?"
The question hung in the air, sucking all sensation I had of my external environment. 'To Lunaville?"
'Yes. Me, you and Luna. I don't wanna leave you here, and I can't stay either. They'd take me by force. I wouldn't want you to get hurt in the process." His eyes held so much emotion I felt like I would burst. All that affection directed towards me, made me giddy with warmth.
And love.
Lunaville. A town filled with werewolves. It was dangerous, but I had Aaron to protect me. At the same time it was exciting. 'Fine. I'll come with you."
His eyes lit up, and he hugged me even tighter. 'I love you, Helena."
The confession caught me off guard, and something wrapped around my heart and squeezed. Softly.
'I love you too, Aaron."
A small squeak jolted us out of our moment. Tyrus was hiding behind the curtains, and apparently lost her footing. She fell through the air halfway, before catching herself and floating. 'You are one naughty little girl aren't you?" I squinted my eyes at her, and she shied away. 'It's wrong to sneak up on people, Tyrus." I scolded, scooping her into my arms.
'You're not the one to say that." Aaron muttered, crossing his arms. I glared at him and he backed away, raising his hands in surrender. 'I don't sneak up on people." I corrected, raising my chin in defiance. Tyrus squealed, in what I could assume was a laugh.
She was so adorable.
The loud clanging of pots startled everyone, and I almost dropped Tyrus. We raced to the kitchen, in anticipation.
'She's probably burned down the kitchen already, and repaired it with magic." Aaron said quietly, and a part of me knew he could be right.
I mean, the kitchen was worse than how it looked before. But something stood out.
An overly large bowl of meat and sauce was beautifully arranged on the island. It was garnished perfectly, with the right amount of color. I didn't even know what most of the fruit there was, but I knew it'd taste amazing.
'Wow."
This was gonna be one interesting weekend.
'Alright. Who said I couldn't cook here?"
********
An hour later, the four of us lay in the living room, with full bellies.
'That was probably the best food I've ever eaten." I said, trying as best as I could to sit up. Nope, it wasn't working.
'I told you." She shrugged.
How was she shrugging????
I was barely able to move.
'I'm still number one." Aaron huffed.
I needed to go number two.
'Helena? Are you okay?" Luna said, laughing lightly. 'Seems like you ate a little too much. I'll give you something that'll help digest it faster. Humans aren't built for werewolf food." She giggled, getting up and walking to her room.
'Lucky y'all can move and I can't. I'm about to explode. Literally." I grumbled.
'You look like a big potato." Aaron said, chuckling.
I grabbed the nearest pillow and tossed it at him. 'You're supposed to be helping me."
'But I am." He laughed, catching the pillow and placing it beside him.
'How do you guys even eat so much? What is in your stomach?"
I felt like a grumpy pregnant woman.
Note to self; Never eat so much werewolf food. Ever.
'You'll get used to it."
'Used to it? I'm going on a diet. No more food for the rest of the week. Damn." It was getting hard to breathe. I just wanted to let all of this out of my system. Curse werewolf food's goodness.
'You're coming with me, remember?" He teased. I wanted to swipe that smug smile clean off his face. 'We don't eat human food over there. Luna was trying to give you a feel of what it's like."
'Well did both of you think to ask for my permission first?" I groaned.
'You didn't seem to mind."
I was tired of his teasing.
'I'm gonna go take a shower. You're impossible." I strained, but I eventually got off the floor. I only took two paces before I was swept off my feet, and facing that bright pair of green eyes.
'There's no way I'm letting you walk like that." He smirked, walking towards the stairs.
'Like what? What do I look like?" I grumbled. I hated feeling so helpless.
'You're cute Helena. Don't think about it again."
I opened my mouth to protest, but he placed his long slender fingers on my lips, making me relax. I leaned into his warmth, and shut my eyes.
I don't know how long it was, but I drifted off into a deep, deep sleep.
