CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE
Rohan's pov
I was lying on my bed with bruises all over my body with Camilla tended to my wounds. She wasn't really nice about this, she grumbled and dabbed at my wounds a little harder than usual.
'You know you don't have to dab it so hard" I told her gruffly
'You are lucky I am helping you, you don't deserve it after what you did to Avilla" she said harshly
'What is it with her anyways? You are my sister, you are supposed to be on my side" I said in annoyance
'She didn't deserve to be treated like that and don't act like I am not in the same situation with you. Unlike you I didn't choose the easy way out." She said dabbing harder.
'Ouch!" I shouted
'Oh grow up, will you!" she said rubbing my face harder
My whole body was sore from the beating my dad gave me, I know better than to try and fight with my dad. That was a fight I wasn't going to win at all. He was far stronger and more experienced than I was.
He was angry and my father was never angry, he just didn't speak until it was necessary to.
I would soon heal then I was going to apologize to Avilla whenever I see her, not because I had sense beat into me but because I found a way we could live happily ever after.
When I was in the archive reading on the history, I discovered that humans and wolves could mate. They were written down in the journal from one of our ancestors.
My hands shook as I opened the first journal, the oldest one. It was written by a woman.
I could remember the very first day we met, it was a rainy day and I was soaked from running under the rain with no umbrella, I bumped into the most handsome guy I had ever seen in my twenty-one years of living. It was clear as I looked into his eyes that he was something special. If only I knew how right I was.
He was handsome with the bluest eyes I had ever seen, his jaw was hard like granite and he smelled so heavenly that I almost hugged him just to get a whiff of his scent.
I took a deep breath because I could relate to what she is writing.
It seemed like he wanted to eat me alive but managed to control himself, I watched him wrestle his demons before finally turning to say hi to me.
I replied him and made a move to keep walking when he stopped me to ask me for coffee. I should have rejected it because I wasn't one to be spontaneous but something told me to take a chance and see where this goes.
I agreed to go have coffee with him and thus began the wildest ride of my life.
It was clear that he was special, he was attentive, loving and tender towards me and I appreciated that but something was missing. It felt like he was holding back from doing anything further. And I understood because I wasn't ready for anything serious too.
Within that period, I began to notice some strange things,
The inhuman strength, the animalistic sounds he makes and the possessive way he acted with me. It was clear that I was missing a big piece of something and I was curious to know what it was. I asked him several times but he played it off like nothing happened.
He wasn't letting me into some aspects of his life and I felt left behind like some dirty secret. He still cared for me but he was distant now.
I endured all of it, wondering where it all went wrong but all that came to an end when he told me what he was.
He shifted when he was 3 because he was the future of some pack, he has been turning into a wolf for a long time and I was his mate. The one destined to be his better half by his creator. Some moon goddess.
I was mad at him thinking he was making up a story when he turned into an animal. I was so scared that I ran off in the middle of the night scared of what he might do to me.
At that moment, he was the monster I read about in books, the kind that stalks their preys before it kills them off in one swipe of the claw. The whole macho thing suddenly made sense, he was very strong and would carry anything. He didn't even work out and he had muscles and a body that most people would kill for.
I was so terrified of him that I avoided him for days, weeks and when I saw him again, he looked so terrible because he was without his mate.
He looked like a pale and sick version of himself, he no longer looked healthy and it was less attractive for me. He pleaded with me to give him a listening ear to explain himself so I sat down and let him tell me the reason why I meant so much to him and apparently he couldn't live without me, literally.
It was so sweet but we couldn't be together because of his pack laws.it was a very barbaric law that one alpha before his father made up to prevent humans from infiltrating the pack.
Wolves don't mate with humans and if you wanted to be mated with a human then you would have to…
That was where the journal ended because the rest of the pages were torn out, I groaned out with frustration because I really wanted to find out what they did to solve their little problem.
I was brought back to the world when Camilla touched a bruise on my cheek making me wince.
'Sorry dad treated you like that" Camilla told me
I knew she didn't mean all that trash about deserving it and all that, she was still my sister and she wouldn't like to see me in pains.
'That's okay, he had his reasons" I told her patting her head
She swatted my hands away before fixing her hair, she took care of me and sat by my side. I knew rejecting Avilla was selfish, I should have just avoided her till I had the whole thing sorted out. I was too rash in my decision no she hated me and avoided me like plaque.
She had boys fawning over her in school and all, especially that human boy. His name was chandelier or something like that. I didn't care, I just needed him away from my girl before I break all his bones. I feel so miserable not seeing her smile at me like she did before I broke her heart.
My wolf was angry and he refused to treat me but I promised him I would talk to Avilla when we get to school again. My body started healing quicker than normal.
A knock sounded on my door and it was my father. Camilla rushed out of there as soon as he let himself in,
'You feeling okay?" he asked me, his face pulled into a frown.
'Yes I am fine, just a little sore" I told him
'I am sorry, son. I lost my temper and I took it out on you" he said sincerely
'No, you were right! I should have come to you but I acted selfishly and hurt the only person meant for me, for that I am deeply sorry" I told him.
I was being honest, I was so focused on taking care of the problem that I didn't realize that I was going to end up hurting her or my family. I hoped their relationship with her aunt was ruined because of my stupidity.
'Did you find out what you were looking for?" he asked me
It took me a while to realize he was talking about the day I went to the archive.
I searched for some clue to the ending of the journal but I couldn't find it, I ransacked the whole library for them but they had disappeared into thin air. It was clear to me that someone didn't want those papers found for some reason and it made me even more curious to find out what he/she was hiding.
I read all the other journals just to find out that whenever it got to the important stuff then the pages got ripped out, it was certainly weird and weirder that nobody had raised the alarm over the missing pages. It was a big deal for a book to be taken from the archives or worse for the pages to be missing. What if some information about out pack got into the wrong hands?
Alpha Dickson should have heard about the missing pages by now, he was very peculiar about what goes on in the library especially in the archives where important and treasured information were being kept.
I check the signing sheet and it turns out that it was just alpha Dickson, the librarian, my father and some pups that wanted to read up on their history. But it showed that alpha Dickson who visited the library frequently hardly ever signed but his scent was all over the archives like a rash. I knew my father liked to read, he spent most of his free time in the library. But alpha Dickson in the library was weird and even more weird was that he was that he read every book in the archives. My father never came into the archives but alpha Dickson did.
It was clear something more was happening here and we were all playing blind eye to it, the alpha was clearly hiding something from the rest of us. It had to be a big secret for him to do damage to those journals. Whatever was in there, he didn't want anyone to find out what it was.
I was going to make it my mission to find out what it was because if I do then I would be uncovering the truth about the human and wolf mating.
'So, did you find anything?" my dad persisted
'Not yet, dad. The page of the journal got ripped off" I told him
I expected my dad to look surprised or even shocked but he just looked thoughtful and well, the opposite of surprise.
'Hmmm… that's weird" he commented absentmindedly
I wanted to call his attention but he appeared to be deep in thought over the missing pages.
'Dad, do you know anything about the missing pages?"
'No, I read the journal but I didn't realize they had torn off the pages" he said
Wait! Did he say he read the journals?
'Did you just say you read the journals?" I asked him just to be sure
'Yes, I did. Lots of important stuff in there. You never know when one would come in handy" he said
'When did you get into the archives, it showed you didn't sign?" I asked him because when I checked his name, he never entered the archives but just the main library.
'Yeah, it was a long time ago before you were born, it was way before Dickson became alpha" he answered with a frown.
What was that about?
I wanted to ask a bunch of questions but I knew he wouldn't respond to anything right now. Not while he has time to gloat.
And I sensed that there was something more going on that some of the pack members didn't know but my dad seemed to have it all figured out.
