CHAPTER FORTY-THREE

"Hello Patrick, I have been waiting for you" "Like my little surprise?" he taunted as he swirled his office chair to meet my burning gaze but I was more surprised at the other person standing in his office. It was the chief elder in council, the one I went to discuss the situation of the pack with. He was in cahoots with this clown? "What the hell is happening here?" I barked at them. "Relax Patrick, there is always time for an explanation" elder said. "Go ahead, I am dying to hear it" I said flatly. He was responsible for the massacre alongside Dickson? What the hell is this pack turning into? The same people that were ordained to protect the pack are the first to put it in danger. "Alpha Dickson has revealed all his plans for this pack and has promised me a good position on his council" elder said with smugness. I looked from him to Dickson who was sitting on the chair with a smug smile on his face. I did the one thing they never expected me to do, I burst into uncontrollable fits of laughter. They both stared at me with surprise on their faces, I held my chest as I laughed so hard. Wiping the tears from the corner of my eyes, I faced elder. "Are you such an idiot to even realize that he is using you and would end you once you are done being useful to him?" I asked the elder. He looked speechless for a while and couldn't get a word out of his mouth, I am guessing he didn't try to reason from this end and trusted whatever Dickson fed him. "W…what?" he asked. "I said, you helped with the murder of 11 elders of the pack, he same people who protect the laws governing this pack and you think you are safe from the same murderer. How on earth did you get to become an elder because you are so dumb" I told him gently. He snapped out if his reverie and stared at me with such contempt in his eyes. "Patrick, I cannot believe that you were going to turn my own subjects against me" Dickson stated. "Do not disrespect me like that Dickson!" I thundered releasing my wave of dominance, my wolf demanded for submission and if he doesn't get any then throats were going to be split. I looked long and hard at Dickson till he bent his head and all I could see was the crown of his head. I nodded in satisfaction at the submission and respect he gave me despite begrudgingly. "You will respect me!" I stated firmly. He looked up at me after some time with the same smug smile on his face but the same couldn't be said for his cohort, the elder was pale with fear and his face looked stricken. I lowered myself unto the chair and made myself comfortable ignoring the look on their faces. "So tell me again, what are these master plans you speak so highly of" I ask, facing the elder directly so he knows that I am talking to him. He trembled with fear from the action I was giving him, my wolf danced around in glee as he fed off his fear. "I don't know what you are talking about" he said. "No, you seem to know so much about our new best friend and killing mate. Please enlighten me on the wonderful plans your partner has for our pack" I said in a firm tone. Dickson was fidgeting in his seat, I think he has figured out that I wasn't one to be ambushed and I would totally fight back when cornered. He thought that killing those people would destabilized me but he was dead wrong. I was surprised, I admit but knowing that he was in cahoots with the elder made me question who else is in on this. We have divided loyalties here in the pack and that could lead to some serious damage. "I want to make us the number one pack, the plan to possess the hybrid and make it do my bidding would make me one of the most feared alpha in the whole of north." Dickson declared. "Hybrid?" I asked him. "Yes" "we haven't had those in centuries now and knowing that people like you are gunning for them, I have reason to believe that they are hiding" I told him as a matter of fact. "I am aware but I will find it and bring it here" he said body. "If this is your plan then I don't see a reason why you killed those people" I said. "I thought you were going to tell them about the missing pages" he said sheepishly "What pages?" elder asked looking between the both of us. He followed him without asking questions on why he killed his fellow elders. "Ask him, go ahead" I urged him. "What is he talking about?" Dickson said. "You did what?! That is against the rules in the pack. Serious information could get into the bands of the wrong hand?" "I am aware of that" he said slowly The elder paced inside the office, it was like he was trying to wear a hole in the floor. "Dickson, don't you realize this? You don't take anything out of the library, they were kept there for a purpose. What is wrong with you?!" elder snapped at him. "Watch your tone when you are speaking to your alpha!" Dickson said in his alpha voice. Elder retreated because he was scared of Dickson. I watched the whole thing with a smile on my face but then I had to ask. "Now that you know that I am plotting against you, what's next?" I asked him. He stood carefully and said with his eyes narrowed. "I think you know what's next" he said right before lunging at me. His eyes turning yellow right before he was on me.
