CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN

Camilla was shocked, I just didn't know if it was from the fact that my parents were legends or the fact that she gets to bite her mate and watch him turn into a wolf. I think it was both, 'What the hell? Mom was human?" she asked 'How come they never told us before now?" she followed up 'Breathe!!!" I urged her, she was freaking out and I got that but that was no reason to stop breathing. 'They didn't tell us because they didn't think it would come to this." I said 'Of all the stories they told us when we were younger? They skipped this?" she asked 'Exactly what I said too when dad was telling it" I agreed with her She hugged me and thanked me for fulfilling my promise now all she needed to do was figure out how to do it. That was it. So when I called her to ask for advice on how to woo Avilla, she suggested I bring her food. She loved food especially cheeseburger and fries. I thought she was kidding till I experienced it now with my own eyes. 'Enjoying it?" I asked her 'Yeah, how did you know I love cheeseburger and …" she trailed off when she realized that she had been sold out by her friend. 'Damn it Camilla!!!" she cursed but she didn't stop eating the burger. 'Don't be mad at her, I insisted she tell me" I pleaded, I was desperate to make things right. 'I would deal with you when I am finished with this" she continued to enjoy her food, she was almost done with the two of them. She finished and wiped her mouth with the napkin. Finally I had her attention and now that I had it, I didn't know what to say to her. 'So why are you here?" she asks 'I wanted us to hang out" I said casually but deep down I was scared she would turn me down. 'Hang out? Not like I don't think you are fun but you sure don't look fun" she commented without missing a beat. I laughed at that, I wasn't the most jovial person but it didn't mean that I wasn't fun to be with. 'I can be fun. Tell me what you usually do with people you hang out with" I told her She thought for a minute 'well Camilla and I gossip about boys, we go shopping and we go for parties then, ben and I hang out, he helps me paint and he brings me food. Camilla brings me food too. They are sort of the only friends I have." I almost growled at the thought of ben and her hanging out together but it came out as a cough instead. If I wanted to be her friend, I had to not be an asshole about it. 'Okay, how about we do all those things. All except gossiping" I suggested 'Really, why?" she ask skeptical 'Because I want to spend time with you and if that's the only way I could do it then I would take what I can get" I told her honestly. She blushed a bit before putting on a blank expression. 'Okay then, so what should we do first?" 'I could take you shopping?" I asked She shook her head 'sorry, I already did that with ben yesterday. Maybe some other time" Ouch!!! She went shopping with ben? She is painting with ben? What exactly isn't she doing with ben? I counted to ten and controlled my breathing 'that's cool, we could just play twenty questions then" I suggested again 'Sure, we could do that" she agreed 'Okay, I will go first" "How old were you when you had your first boyfriend" I asked "Oh wow, diving into the personal stuff, huh? Well I have never had a boyfriend before. I was home schooled in my old town" she answered. She didn't realize how happy what she said made me, it means that she was still untouched and certainly mine alone. I didn't get to share her with somebody and that made my wolf and I extremely pleased. "Okay, my turn now" "What exactly did you mean by, you could never be with someone like me?" She asked me Oh wow!!! She didn't miss a beat, I didn't know how to explain to her without sounding weird. Of course Avilla knew what she was doing when she asked him that question, she wanted him to squirm a little for her pleasure. It was clear that he was making an effort and she appreciated it. But it didn't mean she was going to make it easy for him. Like she told Camilla, she was going to make him think he was getting his way when in fact she was having fun. She watched him open and close his mouth a couple of times not knowing what to say, she smirked a little careful not to look smug. "Well, what I meant was I thought you liked me and I wanted to make it clear that I wasn't interested in you then" he finally said She laughed in her head as her wolf rolled her eyes at him. "What on earth gave you the idea that I was interested in you? I was just trying to be friends" Avilla told him. "No, no. I am not that conceited. And I am sorry for assuming" he said She laughed at him and muttered nice save, too low for him to hear. "So if you weren't interested in me then, it means you are interested in me now?" She kept asking. "Alright that's enough, that's two questions already" he reminded her but the truth was that he didn't want to answer that right now, it would make her feel insulted that he was coming to her now that he was interested. In her. 'You weren't looking like you wanted to ask questions 'she said cheekily "My turn" "If you had the opportunity to be a werewolf or a vampire. Which would you choose?" He asked. Ah! There it is, the question she has been waiting for, although she didn't expect it to come in this category. "Well, I don't know. Reading about them, I think vampires are cool, the only thing bad about them is their pale and pasty skin but otherwise they are faster and far better than wolves" she answered She knew saying that would crush his spirit and that was exactly what she was looking for. Of course she thought wolves were cooler than vampires but he didn't need to know that. "Oh well, I think wolves are pretty cool" he said "Oh that's good for them" I answered offhandedly He looked dejected and I almost went to him to soothe him but I had to control myself. We played the game for a while that I forgot that ben was coming over later to hang out, it wasn't until the doorbell rang that I remembered that he was coming. Oh this was so going to be awkward, Rohan was barely restricting himself whenever I talked about ben, and it wasn't a good idea to put the both of them in the same room. Especially when Ben was overly affectionate with me... I knew I was making him work for it but I didn't want to break his heart in the process, I tried calling ben so we could reschedule but I was being sent to voicemail instead. "Is there a problem?" Rohan asked me "Nothing so big. Trying to reach ben so he wouldn't come over but I keep getting his voicemail instead" I told him I watched his jaw flex a little showing that he was angry but he was trying to control it. He took a deep breath. "You guys were supposed to hang out today?" He asked me "Yes but in the evening" I told him He didn't say anything after that. Rohan knew he was being an ass by keeping quiet but he didn't want to say anything he would regret. He was already having a hard time reining his wolf. He didn't want to sound harsh to Avilla given that they are on thin ice. But it really bothered him that ben was closer to his mate than he was, she was excited at the thought of spending time with someone else other than him. He probably deserved that given that he was an ass to her from the very beginning. He wish he could take it all back and gone to his father for advice in the first place. None of this would have happened. And the both of them word have been very happy by now with ben far from the picture. He didn't know what else to do here, he really didn't know much about humans to start with, and he clearly didn't know how to handle this whole situation with Avilla and ben. He pushed her into Ben's arms and if he wasn't careful then he would end up losing her completely. He leaned towards her, "Avilla, I know I was a jerk to you before but I want a chance to make it right. I just wasn't used to changes and I ended up acting badly to you and for that j am sorry. Please forgive me?" I gave her my best puppy eye look. I could see her resolve melting and her face transformed when a beautiful smile graced her face, she was simply breathtaking when she smiles. "Alright then, I accept your apology. And I hope you mean it" she told me "Yes I do, completely" I told her.
