Having Another Target
After the morning class, Agatha intentionally did not go to the canteen. She hoped to take a short nap while waiting for the clock to strike two in the afternoon. Because she stayed up late last night, drowsiness had hit her again.
"Agatha, quickly look at this! There's a guy asking for your number! He said he wants to get to know you."
Unfortunately, the excited shout forced Agatha to open her eyes again. Her head that she had placed on the table had to reluctantly lift as Aluna pulled her arm.
Agatha cursed irritably in her heart, but lazily responded to Aluna's words out of slight curiosity.
"Where did you get his number from?"
"He came to me yesterday." Aluna moved the chair beside her closer to Agatha's seat.
'Why didn't he introduce himself to me directly? And instead contact you?" Agatha furrowed her brow, finding the approach method boring.
Aluna shrugged, but made a sure guess. "Maybe he's not confident? You, after all, are known to be indifferent to men. So he must have taken the initiative to approach you through chat."
Agatha rolled her eyes. She had encountered men like him countless times, and she was growing tired of it.
"Just tell him I'm not interested in getting to know him. You know, I'm the laziest when it comes to dealing with men, especially now that it's the final semester, I have to focus on my thesis."
"It's precisely because it's the end that you should try dating before graduating, Agatha. Since the first semester, you haven't been close to any man. Don't you want to experience campus romance even once?"
"No. Not at all, Aluna," Agatha responded spontaneously, without hesitation. Aluna scowled briefly, but then let out a long sigh.
"Ah, you're always like that. Annoying. Even though I intend to support you," Aluna grumbled under her breath. Her lips pouted as she scrolled through her phone screen in annoyance.
Agatha just glanced briefly, uninterested in comforting Aluna. "That kind of thing is just a waste of time. Let's talk about something else."
Aluna paid no attention and was busy checking several male contact numbers on her phone who had asked for Agatha's number.
"If that senior from the art faculty that time, did he ever contact you? I heard he's quite famous, you know. Many female students idolize him. You're lucky because he's interested in you. I remember that he also asked for your cellphone number, and I gave it to him."
Agatha, who was about to check her phone, suddenly looked sharply. "What else, Aluna? Stop it. I don't want to discuss it. No matter how famous he is, I'm not interested in getting involved with any guy studying on this campus."
Agatha responded with pressure. Aluna was momentarily silent, not understanding the meaning of Agatha's response.
But after thinking about it for a while, Aluna realized something. She immediately put her phone on the table and turned entirely to face Agatha.
"Huh?" Aluna widened her eyes, covering her mouth with one hand. "So this is why you reject all the men who like you? You already have another target?"
Agatha snorted softly, not expecting Aluna's reaction to be so exaggerated. She just shrugged. There was no way she could say that someone like Jayden Byanthara was her ideal type.
"Secret."
Aluna's eyes widened even more. "Ugh, Agatha! Who is that person? Tell me the news!"
Agatha remained silent as Aluna hit her arm. Knowing that Aluna wouldn't give up, Agatha chose to stand up and leave the classroom for the bathroom.
Ignoring Aluna, who kept shouting her name incessantly.
After the last class was over, Agatha was relieved because Aluna had forgotten her curiosity from earlier. Now they were walking side by side in the hallway towards the bus stop.
"I've always wanted to go to your place and stay there. It must be fun," Aluna interjected during their conversation.
"Yeah, it's fun. Then I got scolded by your mother for bringing her only child to sleep in the small, stuffy room. My ears burned from her lecture."
Aluna chuckled lightly. Indeed, her mother didn't quite like Agatha from the beginning of their friendship. Whatever the reason, Aluna still didn't want to distance herself from Agatha, even if they could only be together at campus.
Outside of that, they never went out together, even if they used studying as an excuse because her mother would always forbid it.
"That's the problem. My mother is very overprotective. Even though you now live in a new place, I still can't visit you," Aluna complained. If her mother wasn't so strict, she would surely live in peace because she is rarely scolded at home.
Agatha just responded with a faint smile. She didn't demand approval from Aluna's mother. Nor was she angry or upset with her dislike.
Being able to be with Aluna on campus is already considered a stroke of luck that she will always be grateful for.
"By the way, how do you get home? I rarely ask this because you are usually picked up. Oh, you probably take the bus, right?" Aluna asked as they sat at the bus stop. She deliberately accompanied Agatha because the driver who usually picked her up hadn't arrived yet.
"I usually take a motorcycle taxi if I miss the bus. Taking a taxi is expensive, right?"
Aluna nodded understandingly. Suddenly, her gaze shifted to a black car that stopped a few meters from the bus stop.
Although they had more than one car at home, Aluna felt that the car looked more expensive than two cars at her house.
"Wow, whose luxurious car is that? It looks very expensive. Oh my."
Agatha followed Aluna's gaze, and she was stunned. Trying to control her facial expression, she swallowed slowly. Agatha knew exactly whose car it was.
"The owner is definitely rich," Agatha casually replied.
"Who is being picked up? Why hasn't anyone gone there all this time?" Aluna looked around curiously, trying to figure out who owned such an extravagant car.
Agatha suddenly felt nervous, knowing that Aluna's curious nature was something she needed to be wary of. A few seconds later, Agatha smiled widely when she saw another car stop on the opposite side of the street.
"Oh, that's your ride, right, Lun?" Agatha nodded her chin towards the car.
Aluna turned around, then stood up. "Oh, yes. The long-awaited one finally arrived."
"Yeah, go on. Before it gets late, your mom will be furious later."
Aluna nodded and waved goodbye. "I'll head home first, Agatha. See you tomorrow. Take care on the way!"
Agatha sighed in relief as the car Aluna was in drove off and disappeared from her sight. Without further ado, she walked towards Jayden's car, which had been parked there since earlier.
"Aunt Agatha, come in!" Layla shouted while opening the car window when she saw Agatha arrive.
Agatha chuckled at the funny welcome. "Ready, Princess!"
After sitting calmly in the front seat next to Jayden, the luxury car left the campus area. Agatha let out a slow sigh of relief, grateful that she got in safely.
Unnoticed by Agatha, Jayden glanced at her briefly before giving a slight smile.
"The one next to aunt earlier is aunt's friend, right?" Layla suddenly remarked.
"Yes, aunt's classmate." Agatha immediately felt guilty. "I apologize, because you had to wait for her to come back."
Layla quickly shook her head, not agreeing with the apology. "I'm fine, Aunt. Daddy said, if we stop in front of you while you have a friend, you would get upset and angry."
Agatha chuckled, finding it amusing for some reason. She affectionately ruffled Layla's hair as the girl's head appeared in the middle of the front seats. At that moment, Agatha also glanced at Jayden, who was focused on driving.
If it weren't for that man, everything would have been revealed in front of Aluna. And she didn't want that to happen.
"Thank you, even though I didn't say anything, but you both already understood," Agatha smiled sincerely.
"Is it correct, what dad said? Aunt Agatha doesn't want your friend to see you being picked up by a luxury car?" Layla asked innocently.
Agatha nodded lightly. "Yes, because I used to take the bus. He would be very surprised to see me suddenly being picked up by a luxury car."
"Wow, that means dad is great at guessing your thoughts."
Layla smiled broadly, the admiration in her radiant eyes focused on Jayden beside her who only responded with a smirk.
Agatha chuckled amusedly. Both because of Jayden's smile and Layla's endearing reaction. The atmosphere fell silent as Layla grew tired from talking and eventually fell asleep.
The journey home was not direct to the apartment, as Jayden mentioned a while ago, they would make a brief stop at the company.
"You didn't tell her?" Jayden finally spoke again after thinking thousands of times.
Agatha glanced briefly, then gave a faint smile while observing the road. "I'm not ready yet. She could cause a commotion if she finds out who I live with. You're not just."
