Improved Relationship
Suddenly receiving an apology clearly surprised Agatha. She tightened her grip on her bag. "For... what?"
"For everything. For what happened to you."
Agatha's throat felt constricted. Would the things she had been trying to hide finally be exposed? Did Jayden already know the truth about her and Jonathan, her father?
Jayden looked down when he didn't get a reply. He held the steering wheel tightly. "It would have been better if I had realized earlier."
Then he closed his eyes momentarily. "That man, I already know he's the one who made your attitude change. He... must be threatening you, right?"
Agatha involuntarily flinched. It seemed her feared suspicion had come true. Even this quickly. Agatha didn't expect that she would no longer be able to cover it up. Now that it was already revealed, wouldn't it be better for her to surrender?
"I'm also sorry." Agatha shifted her gaze outside the car.
Jayden opened his eyes again, turning to look at Agatha. "No. You're not at fault. Everything happened because of that wicked man. And on my behalf, I should be the one to apologize for his outrageous actions."
Agatha was silent. Her chest felt tight. She had tried to bury her feelings deep down, but the man was now trying to mend their relationship. Agatha felt guilty for thinking that this was indeed the best fate for her.
Because Jayden was definitely not likely to accept her feelings. Because Agatha had mistakenly thought that maybe Jayden had the same mindset as her father.
However, after hearing Jayden's immediate apology, what next?
"Listen to me, Agatha. I don't know what Jonathan said to you, but whatever he said, it's all nonsense. You should no longer care about his threats. I brought you to live with me, so no one else besides me has the right to interfere with the decisions I make."
Agatha slowly swallowed her saliva. The explanation she heard made her heart race. But on the other hand, she felt like she was overthinking it.
Because Jayden explained it all most likely because he was Layla's caregiver. She had hoped for more because Jayden did it just for her.
Jonathan stared straight ahead, at a car still there. "If you think that Jonathan and I share the same opinions, that's wrong. Get rid of that thought because he and I are different. I live by my own choices without his interference."
Jayden took a long breath. Then he turned to Agatha, who was still reluctant to meet his gaze. "Please, can you go back to how we started? Don't be cold towards me."
Agatha's heart almost stopped. Her body froze in shock at that request. It meant that Jayden wanted Agatha to return to how they were at the beginning of their relationship.
Cheerful and straightforward. Unable to control her nervousness. And apparently? Jayden enjoyed Agatha's behavior, which she thought would disturb him.
"Do you not hate me? I mean, I've been acting cold for the past few days. You should be annoyed by now. After that, you would just let me. And you wouldn't need to apologize like this." Agatha turned, her eyes meeting Jayden's.
"So, is that your plan? But why? Why should it be? Do you think it could make me hate you?"
Agatha nodded innocently, although she was anxious being stared at so closely. "I also thought maybe we should be like that. The relationship I need to build well is only with Layla, as per the job you gave me."
"But I don't like it."
"Really? What do you mean?"
"I want you to live comfortably, Agatha. You don't have to change your attitude even when you're with me. Pretending like that will be tiresome, won't it? You push away the threats from that man. Forget everything he said and live peacefully."
After Jayden apologized and provided adequate explanations, the atmosphere between the two of them began to improve.
Agatha felt relieved to know that Jayden didn't judge her based on her status. This awareness sparked a new determination within her.
Agatha, who had previously felt threatened and cold towards Jayden, now felt relieved and committed to better herself. She was determined to pursue her happiness without burying her feelings.
Although initially tense, after Jayden apologized and explained, the relationship between Jayden and Agatha began to improve.
The tense air slowly eased, and Agatha felt relieved knowing that Jayden didn't look down on her.
This relief sparked a new drive within Agatha. She felt confident that she deserved respect, not just as Layla's caregiver.
The past few tense days made Agatha aware of her right to like Jayden without hesitation. She was determined not to hide her feelings anymore and prove that she could be with Jayden without any threats hindering them.
Agatha calmed herself internally, "I deserve to be happy and have the right to express my feelings. There's no reason to belittle myself. I will prove that I am not just an ordinary nanny, but a valuable woman."
Agatha embraced her determination, ready to face changes in her relationship with Jayden Byhantara.
***
One evening, on the quiet balcony, Agatha suddenly remembered her deceased parents. Her eyes drifted to the night sky, and she murmured with longing for them. The quiet of the night was only interrupted by the gentle whisper of the wind.
Unconsciously, tears began to flow down Agatha's cheeks. Loneliness and longing for her parents shook her heart, flooding the balcony with deep emotions.
She allowed herself to grieve their loss and yearn for the loved ones she missed dearly.
Agatha murmured with a voice full of sorrow, "I miss you both so much. I hope you can see me now, see the steps I take and understand that I'm trying to be strong."
Her mournful murmurs intertwined with the whispers of the night wind, creating a moment of silence filled with pain and unforgettable memories.
Amidst the prevailing sadness, Agatha felt warmth in her heart. "Although I miss you every day, thanks to your prayers and support, I now have a good job and a comfortable home."
A faint smile crossed her face as she understood that behind the sadness, there were blessings and happiness inherited through her parents' prayers.
Agatha gazed at the moon from the balcony, a bittersweet smile etched on her face. In the silence of the night, she whispered softly as if telling her parents who were now in a better place.
"The moon tonight is so beautiful. I hope you can see it too. There's so much I want to share, and I long for your presence here."
In that moment, Agatha felt as if they were still together, connected through the shimmering moonlight in the night sky.
