Don't Get Hurt Again
"Jayden? What are you doing here?"
Agatha, who was wincing in pain, was very surprised when she looked up and suddenly saw Jayden in front of her.
Moreover, the man's worried expression added to the rapid pounding of her heart.
"What are you doing here? Layla and I have been waiting for you in the car for a while."
Jayden took a seat next to Agatha, glancing at the girl's hand movements, which had initially been holding her leg and then reached for the bag lying on her left side. As if hiding something from him.
But Jayden had already known what had happened since he first saw her earlier. Agatha was clearly in pain there.
"Layla is with you too?"
Agatha flinched a little, imagining Layla's face that must have been annoyed because of her. She then let out a regretful sigh.
"Goodness, I didn't even know you had arrived," Agatha added softly. Immediately regretting her stupidity after the incident on the second floor earlier.
"What happened to your leg? What happened to you? Who did this to you?" Jayden looked straight at Agatha's face from the side. The girl was looking down and reluctant to turn.
Jayden sighed because Agatha remained silent. "Answer me."
Agatha restrained herself from turning, afraid of being hypnotized by Jayden's eyes. Even though deep down she was shouting with joy to hear the question that contained concern.
Although on the other hand, Agatha didn't want to say who had made her slip earlier. She just didn't want to make the problem bigger because she was already fed up dealing with someone named Grace.
"Is he really worried about me?" Agatha asked herself in her heart. Her self-confidence increased, but the head shake she showed.
"I'm fine, just a little sprained." Agatha smiled slightly, unexpectedly she had dared to lie to her boss.
"If you're fine, why are you still sitting here? You must be having trouble walking, right?" Jayden knew very well that Agatha was not being honest. He then clicked his tongue slightly.
Agatha held back her smile after being momentarily stunned by Jayden's suspicion. She then tried to stand up while holding onto the side of the stairs.
"But I can still walk. Let's go, Layla must be grumbling in the car."
Jayden couldn't let Agatha's actions go, without permission he immediately reached for Agatha's arm and supported her. Agatha, who was unprepared for this treatment, was clearly startled and immediately turned her head.
Her eyes widened, but when she realized she was looking at Jayden's face from this close distance, Agatha quickly averted her gaze. Her face suddenly felt hot and might have already turned red.
"Don't force yourself, it's better if you burden me who's here," Jayden said calmly, glancing briefly at Agatha. He then held back an amused smile as he found Agatha flustered.
"Thank you." Agatha swallowed hard, slowly trying to remove Jayden's hand from her arm. "But I can do it myself."
"No. You can't," Jayden immediately refuted.
Of course Jayden didn't obey, he instead tightened his grip. He even shifted to fully support Agatha's body from the side to make sure she couldn't escape.
Agatha was defeated, her body suddenly tensed and she spontaneously thought with her eyes closed, "He won't be able to hear my heartbeat, right?"
"Who made you sprain your ankle?" Jayden asked after they had been silent for a while.
"No one, this is because I was careless. So I fell from the stairs." Agatha bit her lip, it turned out Jayden was hard to lie to.
Jayden's head shake showed his disagreement. If she had fallen from the stairs, there should have been a bleeding wound, at least a slight scratch if Agatha had fallen accidentally.
But Agatha's leg was still clean, it was clearly her bone that was hurting. Jayden guessed someone had deliberately hurt Agatha and made sure there were no visible injuries.
"Your answer doesn't sound confident," Jayden refuted, making Agatha suddenly nervous.
"You don't need to worry about me."
"Who's worrying about you?" Jayden smiled crookedly, turning and looking back at Agatha who was also looking at him with a furrowed brow.
Jayden smiled slightly then looked ahead. "I'm more than that. I won't let anyone hurt Layla's caretaker. What if Layla finds out you're hurt? She'll be so sad."
Agatha averted her gaze, once again Jayden made her heart uneasy. Jayden continued his words because Agatha was silent. "I don't like seeing Layla sad. So you shouldn't get hurt like this again."
Agatha wasn't uncomfortable when Jayden said that, unlike when she was with Cakra earlier, Agatha tended to be disgusted.
But since Jayden was the one she liked, Agatha was even surprised that she was carried away by all of Jayden's words and actions, even though she didn't know what Jayden's basis for doing so was.
"I'm sorry, next time I'll be more careful," Agatha apologized softly. "I didn't know Anna would be so sad if she saw me hurt."
"I don't want to let you get hurt either," Jayden replied seriously, but could only respond in his heart.
After supporting Agatha slowly and carefully for a while, Layla, who had been opening the window to see Agatha's arrival since earlier, was suddenly surprised to find that Agatha couldn't walk on her own.
Layla, who was worried, quickly got out and opened the front seat door so Agatha could get in directly.
What Layla did was clearly perfectly captured by Agatha and Jayden who were still walking a few meters from the car.
They were both surprised by Layla's sensitivity. Including Jayden, who had never seen Anna do something like that.
"Aunt? What happened to Aunt Agatha? Is Aunt hurt?" Layla asked when Agatha arrived with her father. She held Agatha's arm and looked up with concern.
Agatha's heart spontaneously melted, she couldn't hold back a smile, gently stroking Layla's head. "This is just a sprain. After a massage, it will definitely heal."
Layla pouted, annoyed to see Agatha who was clearly in pain but didn't look sad. "Aunt has to be careful, even if it's just a sprain, it must still hurt, right? That time too, Aunt even fainted, but Aunt still smiled like that."
Agatha paused for a moment, then chuckled. How deep the meaning of Layla's words just now. "I'm so touched that you're worried about me. Thank you, Layla."
Layla's nod accompanied by a smile made Agatha relieved that the girl didn't even cry. Fortunately, her injury didn't have any blood, so Layla wasn't too sad.
Jayden himself smiled seeing his daughter so worried about Agatha. Because so far Layla rarely showed her emotions towards others besides him.
After telling Layla to get back in and helping Agatha sit down, Jayden also got in and started the car engine.
"Are you really okay, Aunt?" Layla asked again, leaning forward to look at Agatha's leg.
"Yes, I'm fine. Physically and mentally healthy."
Agatha smiled amusedly, her affectionate hand ruffling Layla's hair without permission, making the girl giggle.
After Layla sat back down calmly, and the car was already moving, Agatha suddenly remembered something. She then turned her head to Jayden.
"Oh, yes, Jayden. Can we stop by my workplace for a moment?"
"What do you need to do there?" Jayden replied, still looking ahead.
"I haven't told them I'm resigning. It wouldn't be nice to just leave without an explanation. Just for a moment, though."
"Okay, I'll support you until you get inside."
Agatha immediately widened her eyes and shook her head quickly. "Eh, no need. I'll walk slowly. It would be disastrous if my boss sees you go in."
"Disastrous why?" This time Jayden glanced briefly. His brow furrowed.
"Isn't it that if I let you go in, you can tell him that you're working for me? He'll never believe I've already got another job, and he'll hold me back."
"The problem is you're not just anyone. How can I say that my job now is to be the caretaker of a CEO's child? He'll definitely think all kinds of things because in a short time I've got that job."
Agatha let out a long sigh. "It's better if I don't tell the truth."
"So you already know who I am?"
Jayden instead asked back because Agatha's answer contained something that made his lips curve into a slight smile. But Agatha didn't realize it.
"Yes, you don't need to explain again about my question last night. I already know from my friend." Agatha averted her gaze, actually a little embarrassed that she had talked about Jayden behind his back.
Jayden nodded calmly. "Okay if that's what you want. I won't force you. But please be careful. Just walk slowly."
Jayden's car stopped not far from a classic-style cafe that looked deserted, there were only a few vehicles parked that could be counted at a glance.
Jayden had never been here, he didn't even know there was such a strange cafe near Agatha's campus.
"If something happens, I can go in right away, right?" Jayden asked when Agatha was about to push the car door.
Agatha somehow held back a smile because it was a funny question. "He's not a bad person."
"You never know, right?"
"Don't worry, I've been working with him for quite a long time," Agatha replied before finally getting out.
Jayden didn't respond, but still watched Agatha until she entered the cafe. He then turned around, seeing Anna who was already fast asleep.
Jayden smiled slightly, something in his heart lately felt warm.
On the other hand, Agatha, who was already inside, could immediately see Noah busy tidying up the tables. Just about to greet him, Noah had already turned around and noticed her presence.
"Agatha?" Noah smiled slightly.
"Sorry to bother you while you're working, Boss. I'm here to tell you something," Agatha said, feeling no need for long pleasantries.
"What's wrong? Isn't your shift later this afternoon?" Noah frowned as he approached.
