About Jayden's Past
"I may seem tough, but in reality, I am very fragile," Agatha smiled as if she knew what Jayden was thinking.
"Besides, who has never complained or felt that their fate is unfair just because they live in scarcity?" Agatha shook her head. "Clearly, nobody."
Jayden fell silent and listened. Suddenly, for some reason, his feelings also hurt upon hearing that explanation. He seemed to reject that the girl next to him had to experience the harshness of life.
If Jayden had met Agatha earlier, he wouldn't have let her feel deep suffering.
"Others sometimes want to be as strong as me. Yet, they don't know that if they could ask, I would rather be a weak girl, but living comfortably and happily with a family," Agatha looked at Jayden with warmth. "Agatha, every step you take, every story you bring, makes you an extraordinary woman."
"When you feel tired or down, remember that you have support. You don't need to pretend to be strong in front of me," Jayden said warmly.
Agatha smiled, touched by Jayden's encouraging words. "Thank you, Jayden. Your support is like a light in the darkness. I'm lucky to have a boss as kind as you."
Jayden felt a new vibration in his heart. "Hearing your story makes me even more aware of how precious your existence is. I want to protect and be your support, just as you do for my child."
Agatha looked into Jayden's eyes, feeling a new warmth in his comforting hug. She quickly averted her gaze. Agatha's heart was pounding. Her face was warm and possibly blushing.
"Thank you, Jayden. I feel safe being with you here."
"I will always be there for you, Agatha. We will go through every step together, as time continues to pass. You don't have to feel alone anymore," Jayden responded in his heart.
With a strong determination, Jayden realized that his feelings for Agatha had changed, and he was ready to accompany the girl in every moment of her life.
Jayden looked at Agatha with trust, then decided to share the burden of his dark past. He then took a deep breath.
"Agatha, there's a past that I've kept hidden for so long. I have also felt deep emptiness and loss. Sometimes, we have to face darkness to find light."
Jayden took a deep breath. "When I heard your story, I felt closer to you. Apparently, we have faced difficult obstacles, but we can build something beautiful from the fragments of the past."
Agatha was stunned, then remained silent and listened. She didn't fully understand Jayden's words.
"You're probably thinking that Layla's mother is truly deceased."
Agatha turned abruptly. Her brows furrowed in confusion. "Isn't that true?"
"Not entirely wrong, but not entirely right either."
"Huh? What do you mean?" Agatha was truly puzzled. Had she not known much about Jayden and Layla all this time?
Jayden smiled. He glanced briefly at Agatha then looked ahead again. His memories of the past slowly spun like a broken cassette tape that he had discarded and then picked up again. Agatha had told him about her past, and now it was his turn.
"There's something you don't know. The woman who gave birth to Layla is actually still in this world. I just considered her nonexistent."
In a few seconds, Agatha couldn't process Jayden's words. Her mind seemed to freeze. Jayden, who understood Agatha, was surprised and confused, but he only gave a faint smile. Indeed, Agatha should have known the truth.
"It was she who chose to leave me and Layla for another man. If at that time I had allowed her to terminate Layla, I can't imagine how my life would be like now."
Jayden chuckled bitterly. "It definitely felt bland. I might not even have the enthusiasm to keep on living."
"The woman I loved, and I thought we would be together forever, everything turned out to be just empty promises. When we made a big mistake, she blamed me. Even though we did it out of affection. She also said she loved me and that we had been together for a significant amount of time. But isn't it frustrating when she said her life was ruined because of me?"
Jayden's laughter rang hollow. But what Agatha heard was just a bleak chuckle, full of pain and hurt. Agatha decided to remain silent and continue listening to Jayden's explanation, holding back her surprise.
"That was the lowest point in my life. I even thought living on was pointless. How could it not be? After she distanced herself from me, she suddenly came back with news of her pregnancy. But when I said I wanted to take responsibility, do you know what she said?"
Jayden sighed. The woman's face came back to his mind. "She hated the child because it ruined her dreams. I thought she was out of line. She even disregarded my responsibility."
He took a long breath, and suddenly his chest felt tight. "But I still had my senses, I could never kill my own child. I asked her to carry the baby in secret, and after she gave birth, I would take the child and raise it."
"I was foolish to hope that she would change her mind after seeing her child and want to care for it together with me. But I was wrong. She immediately went abroad, leaving only a farewell note and ending our relationship."
Jayden laughed sardonically. "It seems she has found another life partner who is wealthier and more handsome."
Agatha clenched her fists in realization. Indeed, on one hand, she was touched by Jayden's story, but she was also angry at the woman he mentioned. If she met her, maybe her hand might land on her cheek directly.
Jayden had just revealed the story of his ex who left him for another man, and Agatha instantly felt frustrated. Her expression showed disappointment and suppressed anger.
"How could she do that to you, Jayden? After everything you gave, she just chose someone else," Agatha said with irritation.
Jayden felt the warmth of Agatha's support. "I appreciate your reaction. It wasn't easy for me, but I'm trying to accept reality."
Agatha clenched her hands with frustration. "No, that's really unfair, Jayden. You deserve someone who values and loves you wholeheartedly, not someone who just leaves you like that."
Jayden smiled gently. "I know you care, Agatha. But now I'm okay."
Agatha let out a heavy sigh, trying to calm herself. "Forgive my reaction, Jayden. I'm just upset with that foolish woman who should realize how valuable you are."
