Saving From the Evil Man
"Tell me the truth," Agatha urged.
She had her own guess, but once again, she felt uncertain. Jayden, in front of her, seemed to smile faintly, and Agatha couldn't help but feel slightly annoyed by it.
"I thought everyone knew who I am?" Jayden took a step closer. His eyebrow raised. "You're not pretending, are you?"
Agatha slowly backed away, her back hitting the door. She struggled to find her words. Her heart was pounding once again.
"I really don't know. And I'm not pretending."
Jayden nodded, studying Agatha's face carefully. "Hm, I don't see any signs of deceit on your face. But I'm curious, why don't you know who I am?"
Agatha didn't want to waste the opportunity to return Jayden's gaze. Although her heart was racing, she gathered her courage.
"I've been busy with my college assignments, so I haven't had time to catch up on the latest news. I'm also not active on social media because I spend more time opening Microsoft Word and Excel."
Agatha took a patient breath. "People like you probably appear more on the internet, right?"
Jayden gave a slight smile. This girl was different after all. Even daring enough to meet his gaze. "Well, that's true, but before I tell you, can you give me a reason why you want to know about me?"
"Just curiosity. Besides, I'll be staying with you, wouldn't it be better if I know your background as well?" Agatha didn't expect her brief question to turn into an elaborate one.
Jayden nodded in understanding. Then he stepped back, pressed his card to the door again, and Agatha raised her eyebrows, thinking he was going to answer.
But what happened? Instead, he opened the door, entered the apartment carrying his suitcase and bag.
"Come in, Agatha."
"Uh, aren't you--"
"It's late, we can discuss that tomorrow morning," Jayden interrupted. "Hurry in or I'll shut the door."
Agatha's eyes widened. How annoying. Not wanting to sleep outside, she hurriedly entered the apartment.
Once inside, her eyes could hardly blink. The interior was incredibly luxurious. And once again, Agatha felt a sense of déjà vu.
"Why does this place look like room number 24? The room where I woke up after that night at the bar," Agatha thought to herself. She stood still, looking around.
She had never been to the apartment before, so she didn't know if every room had the same design and interior.
"Are you going to keep standing there?" Jayden's voice interrupted her thoughts.
Agatha blinked and snapped back to reality. Jayden was in the kitchen, doing something. She approached him, pulled a chair from the dining table, and settled herself down.
Agatha stayed quiet, observing Jayden as he stirred a drink in a cup. No, that wasn't actually what she was looking at; it was Jayden's broad back that looked handsome from behind.
Ah, true. It was the first time she had seen such a view. A beautiful and rare sight.
"No wonder he matches my type. Just by looking at his back, he's handsome. Out of all the men, why did I have to meet him?" Agatha wondered to herself.
Then she held back a smile and thought to herself, "Can I hope that he'll become my lover in the future?"
"What are you thinking, Agatha? Don't tell me it's about me?" Jayden's voice broke Agatha's thoughts.
Agatha almost choked on her own saliva as Jayden sat in front of her. Since when? Why didn't Agatha hear Jayden's footsteps approaching?
Ah, her cheeks suddenly grew warm from being caught stealing glances.
Jayden chuckled softly. "I was just joking. Drink up. The night air is quite cold."
Agatha nodded quietly and took the cup of warm tea that Jayden handed her. She drank it while inwardly scolding herself.
How foolish she was for not being able to control her facial expression while admiring something amazing.
"Do you remember that night? When you passed out at a bar," Jayden interjected after a moment. He thought it was the right time to avoid any misunderstanding.
Agatha's body froze instantly. She placed the cup on the table rigidly. Then, she lifted her face, her expression hardened.
"So, you're the one who drugged me that night? Outrageous. Why did you trap me?" Agatha clenched her fists tightly beneath the table.
Jayden was taken aback by the response. His hand, which was about to raise the cup, instantly stopped. He looked at Agatha, who appeared furious.
"Hey, you've got it wrong. I was actually the one who saved you from that scumbag. I saw him targeting you to be his prey that night. Fortunately, I was there, so I could take you away when you passed out. I don't know what would have happened if I wasn't there. It could have been a disastrous night for you. The crown you've been protecting could have been lost to him," Jayden explained, slightly growling as he was suddenly accused of being the culprit.
Agatha's eyes widened in shock. She immediately stood up. "What? Are you serious? You're not lying? Please tell me the truth."
Jayden let out a long sigh. "That night, I saw that despicable man who targeted you to be his prey. Luckily, I was there and I brought you to the apartment when you passed out. I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't been there. It's possible that it could have been a night of ruin for you. The crown you've been protecting could have been taken by him."
Agatha's breath almost stopped. Her chest felt tight and painful. She sat back down, feeling weak. Agatha held her head and lowered it. Her emotions were mixed.
How could she experience such an incident? Why did such a despicable person target her, someone who had only just stepped into the nightlife for the first time? Who was he? Who was responsible for this?
"I... I'm truly sorry. I honestly don't remember what happened that night. I suddenly woke up in the apartment without knowing who brought me there," Agatha whispered softly, filled with remorse for misconstruing Jayden.
"I brought you to the apartment because I didn't know where you lived. You don't need to feel guilty. I actually mentioned this earlier to avoid any misunderstandings," Jayden clarified.
Jayden sipped his now cold tea. "I apologize for interfering without permission as well."
Agatha immediately looked up and stared at Jayden. "No, you're not at fault. I am very grateful that you intervened. I am truly thankful that you saved me. From now on, I will repay your kindness by working harder in the future."
Jayden paused, the corners of his lips twitched. He glanced at his empty tea cup.
"That's good to hear. I'm glad you said that. Although I don't actually need any repayment, if by working hard you mean for Layla's sake, I gladly accept it."
Agatha nodded and smiled. She felt relieved. She had always found it difficult to express her gratitude without repaying the favor. Coming from a poor family, Agatha had been taught to do so since she was young.
"But Jayden, we didn't know each other before, so why did you help me? It seems like it wasn't just me who was targeted at the bar, right?"
Agatha was curious because a handsome man like Jayden suddenly helped a poor and unattractive girl like her.
