You Will Regret It!
Grace smiled. "I like challenges. You'll change your mind someday."
Jayden just smirked without further response, engrossed in his phone as before. Grace felt the challenge had just begun, although there was still a lingering feeling of disappointment in her heart that was hard to ignore.
"Go ahead until you feel everything will end up being in vain," Jayden muttered without taking his eyes off his phone screen.
Grace narrowed her eyes. "Are you sure I can make you change your mind?"
Jayden shrugged nonchalantly. "Give it a try if it makes you happy. But don't get your hopes up too much."
Grace laughed, trying to conceal her uncertainty. "You don't know my capabilities, Jayden. I like challenges."
Jayden simply nodded in agreement, without truly paying attention to the conversation. In his silence, he thought this was just a meeting that would soon be forgotten, unaware that there might be surprises in the future.
Grace clenched her fists, then took a sip of her drink to contain her emotions. Jayden should not have missed the opportunity to gaze at her beautiful face, like most men she had encountered. However, what she was experiencing now truly made her upset. It seemed like what was on his phone screen was far more captivating than herself.
"How long are you going to keep staring at your phone?" Grace asked, her facial expression reflecting dissatisfaction.
Jayden raised a corner of his mouth, still engrossed in his phone screen. "Who knows, maybe for the duration of this meeting."
Grace was increasingly irritated, but she tried to maintain her composure. "You know, this is an important meeting for both of us."
"For who?" Jayden responded without lifting his gaze from his phone screen.
"For both of us. Don't ignore this," Grace requested firmly.
Jayden just shook his head and mumbled, "This is just your parents' plan. To me, this meeting doesn't mean anything."
Grace squinted her eyes. "You can't keep being like this. I'm not the type of woman you can just ignore."
"You talk too much," Jayden bluntly remarked. Remaining focused on his phone, he underestimated Grace's presence at the same table.
"You're truly annoying. Just wait and see, I will make you unable to resist me. I am sure that soon you will fall in love with me, Jay," Grace confidently said, though there was still disappointment in her heart.
Jayden raised an eyebrow. "Whatever the case, it will be a difficult task. Don't get too caught up in fantasies."
Grace widened her eyes. "You don't believe it? Huh! Why would there be a man in this world who doesn't openly like me?"
Jayden smirked cynically. "Perhaps because there are more interesting things in this world than just your flashy appearance. Believe me, that's not enough to make someone fall in love."
"What?!" Grace was shocked.
Jayden smiled wryly. "And unfortunately, you should know that there is someone who has already made me fall in love."
"No! You must be lying to me!"
Jayden gave her a sharp look. "No, this is the truth. There is someone who is more meaningful to me."
"That's outrageous."
Jayden smiled coldly. "Your time might be better spent with someone else, Grace."
"No. I will keep trying to conquer you. Just wait for my efforts."
Jayden chuckled softly, then pocketed his phone and stood up. "My time is up. It feels like a wasted effort. Ah, but no matter. This will be our first and last meeting."
"Where are you going?" Grace immediately stood up.
Jayden raised an eyebrow. "Leaving you?"
"Aren't you going to take me home?"
Jayden chuckled briefly. "I don't like inconveniencing myself. Unless it's for a woman I like."
After that, regardless of Grace's angry face, Jayden turned around abruptly and left the cafe. Inside his car, Jayden let out as many curses as possible and kept hitting the steering wheel.
"Damn! That man really fooled me!"
***
With heavy steps, Jayden entered the main house. His face was filled with anger, and his eyes released pent-up fire. Jonathan, his father, sat leisurely in the family room, unaware of the storm that was about to hit.
"Hey, we need to talk seriously," Jayden hissed, his voice full of dissatisfaction.
Jonathan raised an eyebrow without diverting his gaze from the iPad in his hands. "What's your problem?"
"My problem?" exploded Jayden, frustration seeping into every word. "Why are you suddenly arranging a marriage for me with a woman I don't even know? Are you crazy?!"
"Isn't this the perfect opportunity for you to serve your parents? Just saying yes shouldn't be difficult," Jonathan replied with a smile.
Jayden sighed upon seeing Jonathan's smile, which was nothing more than a threat. "The idea of serving has long been erased from within me. Do you think marriage can easily be done just by saying yes? I am far different from you."
Jonathan pressed his throbbing temples. Jayden was truly testing his patience. Despite having thought out a beneficial plan for his son's future and their company, Jayden still chose to defy him. Fortunately, he had a smart brain and had already considered another plan to make Jayden think twice before rejecting his request.
"It seems you keep resisting, huh, Jay," Jonathan hissed.
Jayden grumbled. "You're the one who makes me this way."
Jonathan pulled up the corner of his lip. Sitting on the sofa with one leg raised, Jonathan placed both hands on his chest. He gazed sharply into Jayden Byhantara's eyes.
"So, what about the investment in your company? It seems my name is at the top, right?" Jonathan enjoyed seeing the change in Jayden's face, which looked disturbed.
"What do you mean?" Jayden clenched his jaw.
"According to you? What can I do to a company that's nothing?"
Jayden chuckled lightly. If he weren't such a jerk, he would have punched the man's jaw. "So you're threatening me? So that I can follow your ridiculous request?"
Jonathan smiled. "Isn't it clear? You must know I can ruin your company within seconds. Even transfer its ownership to someone else."
"You're fond of making threats, aren't you," Jayden smiled wryly. "The company I currently manage won't be much better if handed over to someone else. I can guarantee that."
"My goodness." Jonathan burst out laughing.
"Can you still be arrogant? Aren't you afraid of it all crashing down if I really do that? Your apartment wouldn't thrive if not for my help as well. Just so you know, Jay. Many know your apartment because of my connections."
"You're wrong! I worked hard to make that apartment famous! I don't need connections from anyone like you," Jayden retorted, displeased.
Jonathan's expression turned serious in an instant. "I have scheduled a meeting with both parents of your future bride. If you dare not show up, I will revoke the ownership of one of your companies and give it to someone who I think is more deserving."
"Are you willing to hand over my company to your favorite child?" Jayden held back a laugh. "You'll regret it."
Jonathan's jaw tightened. "If you agree to this arranged marriage, the company will thrive even more because the parents of your future bride are not just anyone. You should already know what the right answer to my request is."
