That's Why You
"I'm sorry."
Agatha bowed her head for a moment, it was certain that Noah's expression was now very confused. But what can you do, her decision was final.
Agatha sighed softly, then gathered the courage to lift her face and look at her boss.
"Actually, I want to ask for permission to leave this job," Agatha continued, fully looking at Noah with seriousness.
Noah's eyes immediately widened, his breath almost caught. "What's this? What are you talking about? Why suddenly?"
"I'm sorry again, Boss. I really can't keep working here. There's a reason why I have to leave, but I can't say it." Agatha felt it was better to hide her current job from anyone.
Noah sighed irritably, the fatigue of working all day was not comparable to the frustration he felt at the moment when hearing the confession from his most favored employee.
Noah then pulled a chair to his left side, sitting there to calm himself.
"Is it because I didn't give you your pay early so you're angry with me and suddenly quitting? Why are you being so childish?" Noah looked up, staring at Agatha without expression.
Agatha glared and shook her head vigorously, almost cursing in annoyance that she could be accused of a money issue.
"No, it's not because of that. Please, let me go. You still have a lot of employees, Boss. There won't be any problem if I leave."
"I really don't understand, but you're the only employee who's the most diligent in this cafe. It's hard for me to give permission." Noah held back his clenched fist under the table.
"I'm sorry, can I think about it first?" he added pleadingly.
Agatha sighed patiently, forcing herself to nod with an annoyed heart. "How long? I'll wait."
"Why do you look so eager to get out of here?"
Noah raised one eyebrow, no matter how long he stared, he couldn't read what Agatha was thinking from her expression.
"This cafe won't go bankrupt just because I leave, why does the boss have to think long and hard just to give me permission?"
Agatha restrained herself from getting emotional, the day was getting later, but her boss was deliberately delaying time.
"Are you really serious about leaving here? Can't I know the reason?" Noah insisted, still unable to calm his curiosity. Something in Noah's heart forced him to hold Agatha back.
Agatha shook her head because she was still adamant about hiding her new job. "The reason you need to know is just one, I really want to leave this job because I want to, that's all."
"I don't understand why you're suddenly doing this."
Noah took a deep breath, the tightness in his chest suddenly burst out. He didn't know what was happening to himself, after shifting his gaze from Agatha.
Noah smiled slightly, this wrong feeling apparently hadn't gone away, it was even growing bigger.
"Is it that difficult to let go of an employee like me?" Agatha frowned, not understanding the reason that made Noah hold her back.
Agatha still remembered the first time she came to Noah's cafe, she rarely found her boss to be close to the employees, including herself.
Noah was indifferent, but disciplined and generous. He also likes to share with employees and customers.
Although lately Agatha often sees Noah smiling for some reason, she still doesn't know why a non-special employee - who often skips work like her - is held back from leaving.
"Yes, it's very difficult," Noah replied after a few moments of silence.
"Why? I'm just a part-time worker here," Agatha responded immediately.
"Because I like you."
Noah said that honest answer in the depths of his heart. It was impossible for him to express it directly.
Noah controlled himself, looking at anything in front of him other than Agatha. "You're actually better than the employees who have been working here permanently. This cafe can also grow and be crowded thanks to your diligence. If you leave, this cafe might go bankrupt because it's deserted."
Agatha almost burst out laughing at that unexpected answer, she could only hold it back and decide to just clear her throat.
Agatha was not pleased with the praise, but chose to remain silent because Noah himself also did not react at all afterwards. As if his words just now were not just mere praise.
Agatha cleared her throat again, then looked at the watch on her wrist. Suddenly feeling guilty for making Jayden wait too long.
"My time is almost up, I have to go, but I need an answer. Can you please give it to me now?"
"Ask him to come here."
"Him? Who?"
"Ask your boss to come here to meet me so I can believe you've already got a job," Noah explained.
His gaze this time was directed at Agatha's slightly widened eyes. It was very clear that she was very surprised.
"Does it have to be like that?" Agatha swallowed slowly, this was beyond her plan.
"That's the condition you have to fulfill before leaving. I can't let my former employee leave here to become unemployed." Noah deliberately answered firmly, he was sure Agatha would cancel her intention with this order of his.
"Including because of that you," Noah added in his heart.
"I can't believe the boss. You're deliberately delaying time, aren't you?" Agatha shook her head with a disappointed look.
Noah shrugged. "Whatever you want, I'll only give permission if your new boss comes here."
"Damn. I didn't expect him to be so annoying," Agatha thought angrily.
At the same time and right on time, Agatha, who was puzzled about how she could bring Jayden here because it would surely cause a big problem, turned out that the person she was thinking about came on his own without being asked.
"Hello, welcome to the cafe—"
Noah's greeting stopped when he saw someone, a tall man in a neat office suit and a black mask that made his face not clearly visible, walking straight in and heading towards Agatha.
"I'm sorry, but I'm not a customer."
Seeing that person, Agatha suddenly couldn't speak and could only think in surprise, "Jayden?"
"I'm here to pick someone up," Jayden continued with a smile.
"Who are you?" Noah looked at him suspiciously, then stood up and put on a cold expression.
"Have you finished your conversation?" Jayden asked, instead shifting his gaze to Agatha next to him who was frozen staring at him.
"Ah, not yet, I still have to fulfill his condition." Agatha cleared her throat because she suddenly felt nervous.
"What condition?"
"He wants to meet the boss," Agatha said honestly, she had no other choice than not being able to leave here later.
"Wait a moment," Noah suddenly replied, after looking at Agatha, he looked back at Jayden.
"Who are you? Who is the person you want to pick up?"
Jayden looked at Noah again, then smiled slightly, then pointed to Agatha next to him. "Her, the person who came here with me. At the same time, I'm here to introduce myself to you."
Noah flinched a little, but tried to remain calm. He remained silent, waiting for Jayden's explanation.
Agatha herself was anxious, hoping that after this Noah could give her permission. She looked down, not wanting to look at anyone.
"I am Agatha's boss. Starting today, she has been working for me. We have agreed to be mutually beneficial, so as her former boss, can you give permission for Agatha to leave here? The condition you wanted has been met, hasn't it?"
Noah clenched his jaw, spontaneously shifting his gaze to look at the employee next to Jayden. "Agatha, please explain."
Agatha, who was called, reflexively swallowed slowly, then lifted her face and nodded. "What he said is true, he is my boss. I hope you can let me go from here peacefully. I will look for another employee as a replacement."
Noah closed his eyes briefly, then opened them accompanied by a bitter smile and a shake of his head. "No, you don't need to do that. Just go, I won't hold you back anymore."
Agatha knew it was a disappointed and fake smile, but she smiled in relief instead. "Thank you. Thank you for everything. There's not much I can say other than thank you. And also sorry for all my mistakes while working here. Once again—"
"Enough, don't make me change my mind. Go with your boss," Noah cut in, already disgusted.
He was annoyed with Jayden's arrogant face, but even more annoyed that Agatha chose him to be her boss.
"Okay, I'll go. Excuse me. I hope your cafe can stay crowded," Agatha bid farewell, then walked out with Jayden behind her.
Until Agatha had sat in the car seat, while Jayden had just gotten in and closed the door, he then immediately turned to her. Agatha looked silent while looking ahead, at the cafe earlier.
"Are you okay?" Jayden asked.
Agatha paused for a moment, then shook her head with a slight smile. "I didn't expect his response to be so reluctant to let me go. I thought he wasn't the type of boss who would have a hard time letting go of an ordinary employee like me."
Jayden sighed, started the engine and began driving. "I told you, we don't know what's going on."
Agatha nodded, agreeing with Jayden's guess. But suddenly she remembered something that had made her wonder. "But how did you come at the right time?"
Agatha glanced briefly, without waiting for Jayden's reply, she then chuckled softly and looked ahead again. The busy city streets this afternoon.
"Ah, to hell with that, I'm so grateful because thanks to you I can finally be free."
Jayden held back his lips from stretching wide. "I was watching you the whole time, I thought you were in trouble because you didn't come out, so I went in."
Agatha nodded in understanding. No matter how many times she imagined it, she never thought Jayden had such a strong instinct to read the signs of suspicion.
"It seems he likes you," Jayden suddenly commented.
Agatha almost choked if she didn't immediately grab a bottle of water that happened to be in front of her, then drink it. Jayden, who glanced and saw Agatha's reaction, was desperately holding back a smile.
