Chapter 15: A Small Mistakes
Bryan, still very upset about Angeline's behavior on the plane, completely ignored her. They cleaned up again in the VIP lounge. After they had freshened up and changed their clothes, Bryan prepared for a meeting that had been deliberately scheduled there.
"Mr. President, I apologize. I truly regret my actions. I... didn't know I was going to throw up all my food," Angeline said, following Bryan's footsteps as they walked to the waiting car.
"Go ahead, don't follow me today," Bryan said coldly. Angeline couldn't accept being treated this way.
"Why are you acting like this? I've already apologized!"
"I don't know how I ended up marrying a girl like you. Get in the car and go to the hotel. Don't wait for me!" Bryan snapped, got into the car and slammed the door.
Angeline was not pleased and knocked on the car window, but Bryan ordered the driver to leave her there.
"Argh!" Angeline shouted, frustrated by Bryan's excessive behavior.
"Is it okay to leave Mrs. Angeline like this?" John asked worriedly. But Bryan, who was already very emotional, ignored him and decided to read his documents.
"Fine, I can have some fun too!" Angeline shouted and immediately got into the car behind them and drove to the prepared hotel. Upon arrival, Angeline went straight to her luxury room.
Angeline pampered herself. She seemed to be enjoying herself in one of the hotel's spa facilities. She was sipping red wine and enjoying some fruit. Angeline looked really happy.
After a while, Angeline enjoyed a scrub and massage. Her face was masked with cucumber slices covering her eyelids.
An hour passed and Angeline felt refreshed. She began to choose from the various outfits John had prepared.
"Hah... I thought they would give me sexy clothes. But is it freezing here? Bryan is so selfish. How could he leave me like this? I really hate him. I can't believe he would leave me after everything he did. I really hate him. Seriously," Angeline ranted, unaware of the strange looks some of the hotel staff were giving her as they prepared to serve her.
Bryan was at the New Mexico office preparing for a meeting when he suddenly remembered Angeline, whom he had left at the airport. For some reason, he felt extremely guilty. Bryan sat deep in thought, his face resting on his hands on the table, contemplating everything he had done to Angeline without a second thought.
Knock... Knock...
"Mr. President, the meeting must begin immediately. Everyone is waiting," John said, pulling Bryan out of his reverie.
"Ah... yes, I'll be right there," Bryan said, looking at John who promptly left his office.
Bryan still felt uncomfortable and unenthusiastic about everything that was going through his mind right now. But he couldn't linger in that sadness because there was a meeting he couldn't put off any longer. Bryan grabbed his suit and put it on before leaving his office.
John was waiting for him outside. They walked to the meeting room on the second floor. Bryan still couldn't shake his guilt over Angeline. Several times he drifted into a reverie on the way to the conference room.
"I know I may have crossed a line. But I hope, Mr. President, that you can focus on this meeting and put those thoughts aside," John advised Bryan before they entered the meeting room.
"Good grief! Does it show on my face?" Bryan asked seriously, looking at John. In an instant, Bryan's demeanor changed and he became focused. He successfully redirected his thoughts to the meeting.
"Not anymore. Please, go ahead," John replied, allowing Bryan to enter the meeting room.
The wind was blowing hard and Angeline had forgotten to put on warmer clothes. She rubbed her cold hands together as she walked along the long Taos River. She watched couples, both in love and playfully teasing each other, among the visitors.
"Look at them. They're not even married yet, but they seem so happy, smiling and sharing their joy like that," Angeline said enviously.
Feeling tired, Angeline decided to take a break in a crowded area. She was captivated by the enchanting view - the twinkling star-like lights and the cool breeze. Ah... Angeline really enjoyed her time there.
"Wow... the wind is so strong. Brr," Angeline exclaimed quite loudly.
"I've finally found you," someone familiar said to Angeline. She turned to the source of the voice and was surprised to see Bryan standing not far from her.
Bryan was wearing a knee-length double coat of thick fabric. He was also wearing pants and a white shirt with a scarf around his neck. Bryan looked incredibly good that night.
Angeline, on the other hand, wore a knee-length dress and a white and pink blazer. She was beginning to feel cold, and her nose and ears were pink. She stared at Bryan as he walked towards her, frozen in place.
"Do you want to freeze to death? Why are you wearing such thin clothes?" Bryan scolded her, taking off one of his coats and throwing it at Angeline. He also took off his scarf and told Angeline to put it on.
"Put it on. I've been in the conference room too long, I'm overheated," Bryan said before walking over to a vending machine. He inserted some bills and bought two cups of hot tea.
Angeline made no comment. She just remained silent and put on the coat and scarf Bryan had given her.
"Wow, it's warm," Angeline murmured.
"Here," Bryan handed her a cup of hot tea.
"Thanks," Angeline said and took a sip.
"Even though it's not winter yet, fall can be quite cold," Bryan added as he looked at the river in front of them. Taos, the town they were in, was perfect for a honeymoon.
"Why did you come here, Mr. President? Aren't you busy?" Angeline asked, slightly annoyed.
"I finished the meeting. I might be busy tomorrow, so I thought I'd take some time to relax like this, here. With you," Bryan said, surprising Angeline.
"Are you still mad about what happened on the plane earlier?"
"I thought you were mad at me too. Why were you walking alone? Aren't you afraid?" Bryan asked in return.
Angeline remained silent and sipped her no longer hot tea. Bryan also remained silent, both of them enjoying the cool night in the town of Taos. It was a town that truly lived up to New Mexico's nickname: "The Land of Enchantment.
