Chapter 80 - Almost Lost
Angeline ran to catch up with Bryan. She had to wonder if Bryan really remembered everything. Suddenly there was a loud crash across the street. Bryan was startled and heard people panicking as someone had been hit. Bryan was scared. He hoped it wasn't Angeline. Not his beautiful wife.
Angeline didn't notice that the pedestrian light had ended and it was now time for the cars to move. She only noticed when a white car hit her and she fell. Semesta's cup shattered on the asphalt. Bryan slowly turned around and saw his wife lying on the road, injured. He was terrified and immediately ran to help Angeline.
Bryan rushed Angeline to the hospital. Angeline was still conscious when they wheeled her into the hospital. She saw how panicked Bryan was. Her neck was stabilized and Bryan begged the doctor to save her.
"Please, take it easy," the doctor urged Bryan. "Is Angeline your wife?"
"Yes," Bryan confirmed.
Before she lost consciousness, Angeline told the doctor that she was pregnant and wanted her baby to be saved.
"Please, Doctor, make sure my child is safe. Don't worry about me."
Then Angeline lost consciousness. Bryan panicked, but the doctor and nurse had to pull him away from Angeline because her condition needed further evaluation.
Dr. Edward met Bryan, who waited anxiously.
"Doctor, is Angeline okay?" Bryan asked.
"Angeline's internal organs have ruptured, so an operation is necessary. But because she has to be anesthetized, her baby cannot be saved, especially since Angeline's pregnancy is still very young. But if Angeline doesn't have the operation, it will be dangerous for her. So it looks like Bryan will have to give up on saving the baby," Dr. Edward explained. Bryan knew he had no other choice; Angeline had to be saved.
"Is there no other way? Angeline... she'll be devastated if she loses her baby," Bryan said, feeling sad and confused about what to do.
"This is the last option; you should decide soon," Dr. Edward advised.
Bryan fell into a long silence, torn between his emotions. He didn't know what to do. On the one hand, he desperately wanted to save Angeline. He didn't give much thought to their unborn child, although the decision weighed heavily on him. On the other hand, if Angeline were in that situation, she would undoubtedly choose to save her baby.
Bryan couldn't face Angeline if he chose to let her child go. All their struggles up to that point would be in vain. Bryan's plans would fall apart if he lost them both.
"I believe you can save them both. Please give me the chance to save them both. I beg you," Bryan said, tears welling up. He was confident that a miracle was still possible.
"All right, we will do our best. But if we have to choose between saving one of them, we will give priority to saving Angeline," Dr. Edward said, understanding Bryan's feelings. However, Angeline's condition was precarious and difficult to maintain.
Bryan waited outside the operating room, his heart heavy as he saw Angeline unconscious and undergoing surgery. Memories of their time together flooded Bryan's mind, every sweet moment and every hurtful word he had said to Angeline recently. He couldn't believe what he had done to her. How could he forget the three months they had spent together?
Tears streamed down Bryan's face as he regretted his foolishness and considered his thoughts of ending his relationship with Angeline. He sobbed, blaming himself for all the pain Angeline was going through. Bryan wished he could go back in time, to the moments when he should never have forgotten Angeline. His tears were a testament to his regret, his momentary amnesia, and how it had driven a wedge between him and Angeline.
After some time, Angeline's surgery was completed.
"Doctor, how is Angeline?" Bryan asked anxiously.
"Fortunately, we were able to save them both. Angeline and the baby are safe. Angeline is now being taken to the recovery room," Dr. Edward said with a happy smile. He hadn't thought they could save them both.
Bryan bowed his head and shed tears of relief. He was overjoyed that they had both been saved. His heart felt lighter.
In the recovery room, Angeline slowly opened her eyes. She looked around, but there was no one with her. Angeline sighed, feeling lonely and not knowing what to do. Dr. Edward came in to check on her.
"How are you feeling? Do you feel anything?" he asked.
"No, I just feel weak and dizzy," Angeline replied.
"You're lucky we were able to save both of you. I had almost given up hope of saving both of you, but Bryan was determined to save you. That's why this is a miracle."
"Bryan... is he here?"
"Haven't you seen him yet? He was waiting for you, even when you were taken to the recovery room. Where did he go?" Dr. Edward wondered.
It turned out that Bryan was still in the hospital, sitting in the garden. John had come to bring him a change of clothes.
"I thought you were going to see Mrs. Angeline," John said, confused.
"I asked for a separation. Why would I be with her?" Bryan replied.
"You must be worried about her. I thought you'd at least be with her, not sitting alone like this. Are you sure about all this?"
"What about the investigation? I want to get everything straightened out."
"It is still under investigation. Madam Rose is being very thorough this time, and it's hard to prove that she was behind your accident."
"All right, let's go back to the office then," Bryan said, getting up to leave.
"Can I ask you something?" John stopped Bryan.
"Why did you have to do that? Separating from Angeline, will it change anything?"
"At least I can protect her. The accident yesterday may not have been a mistake, but it could happen again and she could get hurt and leave me. What's even more painful is the fact that it was on purpose. And I won't be able to forgive myself for that," Bryan admitted, carrying the weight of his grief alone.
John couldn't say anything and went on. Bryan stayed where he was and looked into Angeline's room. He hoped that Angeline would be all right, even though they had to part this way.
"Hold on a little longer, I... will bring you back and make you happy with me," Bryan said, full of hope.
