Chapter 19: Crying
"Hello."
"It seems you're very happy to have found your prince charming," someone said from the other end.
"Excuse me, who is this? Do I know you?" Angeline asked, confused.
"Do you think you're going to be the favored daughter-in-law? Even Mrs. Rose didn't recognize you at the wedding. Don't be too confident."
"Hey, who are you? If I don't know you, don't say strange things!" Angeline raised her voice. She was very frustrated because a stranger was talking so badly about her.
"I'm Lucy, Bryan's ex-fiancée. And you... who are you really?" Lucy, who had apparently called Angeline, said. Angeline didn't know how she got Angeline's phone number.
"W-what? What are you talking about?" Angeline began to feel nervous. She was very afraid that her identity would be discovered and Bryan would be in trouble.
Angeline looked around, trying to find out if the person who had called her was around or not. Or if there were people secretly watching and following her.
Despite her best efforts to hide her identity, she hadn't even contacted her own family. Angeline was very frightened and began to get anxious. Her face grew pale and she didn't know what to do.
"Don't you understand what I mean? You're not the professor's child, because the professor is not married, let alone has children. So who are you really? What will happen if Mrs. Rose finds out?" Lucy threatened, smiling broadly.
Apparently, Lucy was not far from where Angeline was sitting. She had seen some photos of Angeline when she used to work as a courier and substitute driver. Angeline, looking disheveled and unkempt, was a far cry from her current appearance.
"What do you want? Why are you calling me like this?" Angeline asked, her eyes filled with tears.
"You must divorce Bryan and then I'll let you live peacefully with your mother and siblings," Lucy threatened.
Lucy got up from her seat, walked over to Angeline and immediately poured a glass of orange juice in Angeline's face. This drew the attention of everyone in the restaurant.
"What's wrong with you?" Angeline asked angrily, giving Lucy a sharp look.
"How does it feel to be humiliated in front of so many people after stealing someone else's future husband?" Lucy asked, causing Angeline to look around. She felt embarrassed for a moment as everyone turned their attention to them.
"You're crazy," Angeline muttered, wiping her wet face.
"Why? You're the crazy one, you're a fraud. Does Bryan know?"
"He knows, so what? The fact is, he chose to marry me over you. Doesn't that make me the winner?" Angeline challenged fearlessly.
"Wow, you're really brave. All right, I'll let Mrs. Rose know."
Lucy took out her phone to call Mrs. Rose, but then someone came and took Lucy's phone and smashed it to pieces.
"Are you crazy?" Lucy yelled, about to slap the person who had thrown her phone away. To her surprise, the person who took her phone was Bryan.
"Bryan?"
"You dared to disturb my wife and even humiliate her like this? Aren't you afraid to face the consequences?" Bryan said coldly and somewhat threateningly.
"Why should I be afraid?"
"Is it because of Mrs. Rose? Is that why you're acting this way? Do you want Mrs. Rose to know the real truth about what you're going through?"
"What do you mean?"
"At least I married an honest and truthful woman, unlike you. I know you're pregnant and your boyfriend doesn't want to take responsibility, right? What if Mrs. Rose finds out and still chooses you to be my wife? This child is not mine and I don't want to be your husband.
"I don't care. I'm not going to marry you anyway. But what if Mrs. Rose finds out who your real wife is? Your plan will fall apart and you'll lose your company, Bryan."
"You don't have to worry about my company or my marriage. Just worry about your own fate. Because your parents already know. And they are on their way to your friend's house to demand an explanation."
Bryan smiled, his look was icy and intimidating. Bryan approached and whispered a threat Lucy had never imagined. Lucy trembled with fear, unable to speak, and left the scene.
"Are you okay?" Bryan asked as he looked at Kayana, who was frozen in place. Bryan approached and handed Angeline a handkerchief.
"Thanks for coming, I'm going back to my room," Angeline said awkwardly and left Bryan. Bryan stared at her in confusion.
Angeline was now in her room, in the bathroom, cleaning up the orange juice spill Lucy had caused. She was still shaking with fear. She felt guilty about being caught by Lucy.
Angeline thought that maybe their contract would end and Bryan would demand repayment for her mother's medical expenses and her sister's release. As she came out of the bathroom, Angeline heard her phone ring.
Angeline looked to see whose phone was ringing and accidentally dropped her phone. She looked at Bryan's phone, which had fallen and shattered into pieces. Angeline was shocked because she had accidentally dropped Bryan's phone and it had shattered like that.
Bryan approached, surprised at what had happened. When Angeline looked at Bryan's face, she was shocked because he looked so angry. His face became frightening with sharp eyes. His breathing even sounded heavy. Angeline felt very scared and didn't understand why Bryan was so angry.
Angeline covered her mouth with both hands and her eyes began to fill with tears.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to drop it," Angeline said with a shaking voice. She really felt guilty for making Bryan so angry and seemingly unwilling to look at her.
Angeline immediately bent down to pick up the pieces of Bryan's phone when he grabbed her and pulled her upright.
"What are you apologizing for?" Bryan finally looked at Angeline, whose face had turned red from holding back tears.
"I made you angry, this..." Angeline pointed at the broken phone with her hand.
"Also because my identity was revealed," she added. Angeline's eyes began to fill with tears. She bit her lip to hold back the tears. Her heart was very sad because she had made a mistake that would be very hard to forgive.
Bryan held both of Angeline's shoulders and looked at her with tenderness. The anger that Angeline had just seen seemed to have disappeared.
"Look into my eyes," Bryan said softly.
Slowly, Angeline looked up, tears rolling down her cheeks. When Bryan saw this, he couldn't stand it. He immediately grabbed Angeline and held her head against his chest. He let Angeline cry in his embrace and tried to comfort her.
"How could you think I'm angry just because my phone is broken?" Bryan said, surprising Angeline.
