Chapter 17: Skiing
Angeline was already in bed with a blanket covering her entire body. Only his face was covered and he pretended to be asleep when Bryan came out of the bathroom. Bryan put on his pajamas and walked over to his bed.
Staring at Angeline who had closed her eyes, Bryan came closer. Angeline's feelings were not calm. The reason was that he was reminded of his contract where he had to bear Bryan's child. This made Angeline uneasy.
To be honest, Angeline wasn't ready. So he decided to sleep first to avoid his second hot night. Feeling Bryan close to her, Angeline grabbed the blanket with all her might.
Realizing Angeline's behavior, Bryan simply turned off the light next to Angeline's bed and prepared to sleep on his bed. Angeline heaved a sigh of relief.
Angeline suddenly woke up and felt thirsty. He sneaked into the kitchen and opened the refrigerator when Bryan suddenly appeared from behind and tapped him on the shoulder.
Startled, Angeline accidentally dropped her apple until it hit her leg. So Bryan had to massage his feet while scolding him.
"Why are you so careless, huh?"
"I'm not careless," Angeline refused to accept.
"You're the only person in the world who can bother me every time. I forgot you had an appointment for me," Bryan complained, making Angeline feel uncomfortable.
"Take my leg off, I'm fine," Angeline protested and pulled her leg.
"Your feet can swell, they need to be compressed overnight," Bryan said and accidentally massaged Angeline's feet too hard.
"Aww..." Angeline winced in pain.
"Eh- sorry. Tightness, huh?" Bryan felt guilty and rubbed Angeline's feet. His panicked face looked softer. Angeline was fascinated until her cheeks flushed.
Angeline became embarrassed and walked away hastily. But Bryan sweetly carried Angeline back to her room.
The next morning, Angeline saw Bryan sitting at the dining table reading the news in the tabloid and immediately thought cynically because this atmosphere felt like ancient times. As if he could read her mind, Bryan suddenly looked at her.
"I didn't say anything!"
Without many words, Bryan immediately gave him a ticket to the opera.
"Come to this place tonight. I will bring a driver to pick you up tonight. Wear the clothes I bought for you yesterday and don't forget the jewelry," Bryan said and started to leave.
"Uh, wait a minute. Which dress should I wear? I took the black and silver one."
"Then the other one."
"That means the red one? You're crazy, why do I have to wear something so flashy? Besides, the material is too open."
"I don't care. I have a business to run. Have fun," Bryan said and left the hotel.
"Okay, let's have fun and drive around the town of Taos," Angeline suddenly exclaimed. Bryan, who had not left the front door, looked confused.
"Oh, sorry. I'm going there now," said Bryan, who had stopped because of Angeline's screams. He hung up and rushed to the car.
Bryan had just finished one meeting and was about to move on to the next. He had come to Mexico not only for his honeymoon, but also to catch up on some work that had been difficult to do because he was busy at the corporate office.
"Do you want to see the ski resort here?" asked John, who had been around when Bryan had a meeting.
"Didn't you enjoy yourself? Why did you invite me?"
"Maybe it could be a place of inspiration to invite your wife, who you live in a hotel with," John teased.
"Sorry, you better take care of yourself," Bryan declined.
"Are you sure?"
"Okay. Just ten minutes. Is this place so good that people say it's the land of a million charms?"
"You'll see for yourself, let's get our skis on," John said, very excited.
John only had time to look around, but he didn't dare play because he was afraid Bryan would call him at any moment. John pointed to some of the visitors who were skiing. Some of them were sliding so fast that they hit the barrier. Bryan was confused and hesitant to try. Until someone who looked familiar passed both of them.
"Oh President, why are you here? You too John?" said Angeline who had put on full skis and was gliding towards them very smoothly.
"What are you doing here?" asked Bryan in surprise.
"Ah, that's wrong. President, you have to sit down before you put your shoes on. And the helmet has to be strong so it doesn't fall off," Angeline said as if to avoid Bryan's question.
"You didn't answer my question," Bryan asked again.
"Huh... why the heck am I here for fun. I was up all night looking for a good ski resort nearby, and I found this one. What are you doing here? Isn't it a meeting again?"
"I'm lazy. You two play," Bryan said, throwing his skis at John.
"Wait a minute - oops," Angeline was about to stop Bryan's steps by pulling his hand. But the snow they stepped on was so deep that Bryan lost his balance and fell. Her hand, still held by Angeline, forced Angeline to fall as well, pressing against Bryan's body.
Angeline was astonished. Especially when he heard Bryan's heartbeat, which was quite fast. Angeline raised her head and looked at Bryan's face, which was reddened by something turbulent and irregular.
"Ah, sorry," Angeline said as she stood up. John helped Bryan by pulling him up.
"You did that on purpose, huh?" Bryan said with a very annoyed face.
"It sucks, just like that the time has gone. Hey, let's make a bet. Whoever wins slides up to the pole and wins." Angeline confidently challenged.
"Not interested," Bryan declined and walked away again.
"Okay. If you really can't ski, just say so," Angeline scoffed, stopping Bryan. I don't know why the competitive spirit is rebelling.
"Who can't, huh? If I win, what will you do?"
"I? Hmm ... I will fulfill the president's request. One request. Whatever," Angeline challenged.
"Okay. I will do the same," Bryan replied, accepting Angeline's challenge.
