Chapter 99 - Apprehensions
It turned out that all the ease and comfort Angeline experienced was, of course, Bryan's doing. Bryan was in the control room, instructing his staff not to stop the elevator on other floors, and to make sure it kept going until it reached the floor Angeline wanted.
"And have the lobby lights come on as soon as Angeline arrives."
"Understood, Mr. President."
As expected, when the elevator opened, all the lights in the lobby were on and there was even a staff member there to greet Angeline.
"Good evening, Mrs. Ellie. I've already ordered a cab for you."
"Really? I feel bad about that. I can take the bus from here."
"But it's quite late now, so it's better for you to take a taxi," the clerk insisted.
"You're right, thank you," Angeline finally agreed.
Angeline got into the taxi and Bryan could only watch from a distance.
"You worked hard today, Angeline. I hope you get home safely."
Bryan waved his hand in the direction of the taxi. He was relieved that Angeline would be returning home safely.
In the morning, John told Grandma that Bryan and Angeline had had a nice time together because of the project. When Grandma heard this, she smiled broadly.
"I've been waiting for moments like this. Hopefully, Angeline and Bryan can start dating again."
"But it seems there's no progress in President and Angeline's relationship, although I really hope they can be together again. Once this cooperation project is finished, there won't be any reason for them to meet."
"It doesn't matter; the most important thing is that they still have feelings for each other."
"That's right, I'm sure President Bryan is still 200% in love with Angeline. But I don't know about Angeline's feelings for the President. Are they the same or not?"
Today, Angeline went back to check on the documents she needed, and Bryan seemed disappointed because it looked like Angeline would be done with the documents soon. This was evident from the fact that only one large box was left from the three that Bryan had prepared.
"Is Angeline sure she has gone through all the company documents? Is she sure she was thorough with all the documents I gave her? The company doesn't like to accept sloppy work," Bryan said, hoping Angeline still had a long way to go.
"Yes, I've checked all the company documents. Besides, I think it's better not to do it half-heartedly; we might as well not do it at all. And I can finish everything tonight, so I can send you the concept as soon as possible, Bryan.
Bryan was disappointed. It seemed as if he didn't want his time with Angeline to end so soon.
Angeline went to her mother's restaurant.
"Why have you suddenly changed your mind, Angeline? Didn't you say you were going to stay here for a while?"
"Mom, I feel better in Paris. Jason will be starting school soon and I've found a good school for him there."
"A good school should always be a priority, but Mom thinks there are many good ones here as well. But I can't force you. I hope you and Jason will come here often."
Unexpectedly, Bryan arrived and was surprised to see Angeline, just as Angeline and her mother were surprised to see him.
Angeline's mother was shocked and even used a pot lid to cover her face when talking to Bryan.
"Bryan, you should leave."
Bryan, who was actually embarrassed to be told to leave, pretended to receive a phone call as if the caller asked him to come right away.
"Ah, okay, I'll be right there."
Angeline knew that Bryan was only pretending.
"Mom, shouldn't you be preparing food for your customers who have already arrived?" Angeline said.
Bryan, who had pretended to be on the phone, continued his charade.
"I'll come later after I eat."
Now the two formerly married people were eating separately. Bryan enjoyed his meal, and Angeline watched him quietly.
"Thank you for the food, Mrs.," Bryan said after finishing his meal.
"After today... I won't be coming here again, so tell him not to worry and live happily."
Bryan asked Angeline's mother to relay his earlier statement to Angeline, which was unnecessary because Angeline had already heard it. Angeline responded to this statement by saying, "Tell him that I also asked him not to come back.
Bryan replied with irritation.
"Tell him why he's being so cruel. Cruel, cruel, cruel." "If I tell him not to see me, at least he can pretend to listen to me." "Oh, my goodness! You both make me so angry! I should have told you both that I shouldn't serve customers like Angeline and Bryan," Angeline's mother scolded in frustration.
Bryan then turned to Angeline's mother. "Ma'am, take care of yourself."
It seemed that Bryan's words were addressed to Angeline, who was leaving for Paris tomorrow. He deliberately said it close to Angeline so that she could hear him. Or was it a sign that he would honor Angeline's wish not to see her mother again? Having said all that, Bryan left.
"Wasn't it strange how Bryan said that earlier, as if he would never come to the restaurant again? Angeline's mother wondered.
"Can't you just stop serving Bryan? It's not good for you or him to keep seeing each other," Angeline pleaded.
"If you're not meant to be together, that's fine, but don't hate him too much. Hating someone can make you like them in the end."
Angeline didn't want to discuss it any further, so she decided to leave.
"Mom, I'll come by tomorrow before I go to the airport."
That morning, Angeline was already packed and ready to go. She put her passport in her bag and found something unusual inside - a recording device. Angeline, who didn't remember owning such a device, took it out and examined it closely. Then she found a tiny folded piece of paper in the headset hole of the recorder. Angeline pulled it out and read the contents.
"This recording has absolutely nothing to do with Angeline, so please do not listen to it. Seriously, it has nothing to do with Angeline. If you press the middle button, the recording will play. But please do not press it. I beg you."
Angeline casually pressed the middle button and it was Bryan's voice that filled the air. Alex, who had just arrived, also heard Bryan's recorded message and stood frozen.
"I do not want my ex-wife - Angeline - to know about my condition. Never. I want my wishes concerning her to be carried out without her knowledge. Start the Angeline Foundation and celebrate her birthday every year with gratitude.
Angeline heard everything, including Bryan's conversation with lawyer Yasser.
Alex decided to speak to Angeline. "Angeline, what's going on? Shouldn't you leave now?" he asked and Angeline quickly hid the recording in her bag.
