Chapter 83 - A New Life
Angeline walked cheerfully, carrying many cups of hot coffee, into the gallery where her artwork was being displayed. Everyone was getting ready for her first exhibition in New York. Alex, of course, was accompanying her to the show. Angeline was using the pseudonym Ellie.
In the gallery was a painting of children forming hearts with their hands. Angeline called the painting "Missing.
Alex looked at the painting with a woman standing next to him who also seemed to be an art lover.
"Wow, all of Ellie's artwork in the gallery looks amazing, and I like them, but the one that really caught my attention is this painting. I really like that painting."
"Why do you like that particular painting?"
"It's because I can see that the painting 'Missing' has strong emotions, and it's the only one among all the paintings of women. Maybe that's why this painting stands out."
Alex nodded, agreeing with the woman's interpretation. He knew what she was saying was true.
"You're right, and as far as I know, the 'Missing' painting is also the one Ellie likes best."
Angeline greeted the busy staff.
"Good morning everyone, I brought coffee for everyone," Angeline said.
The employees did not know that the person who brought the coffee was the owner of the beautiful paintings in the gallery. They thought she was just another employee.
"Alex, when is Ellie the painter coming? I can't wait to see what Ellie looks like," asked a visitor with a camera in hand.
Alex just smiled and looked at Angeline, who was now handing coffee to a busy employee who was cleaning the gallery.
"Thank you, although you didn't have to," the employee said to Angeline, not expecting a kind woman to offer him coffee. He accepted it with genuine gratitude, and Angeline responded with a sweet smile.
"Everyone, the artist you've been waiting for is here," Alex announced as he approached Angeline and immediately hugged her.
"Hello everyone, I'm the artist Ellie. Nice to meet you all," Angeline greeted and introduced herself.
Two women who had previously looked down on Angeline for being overly friendly while handing out coffee were now shocked to discover that the person they had underestimated was the owner of all the artwork in the gallery.
Bryan was at the hospital with Dr. Edward.
"How long are you going to be late like this?" Dr. Edward asked, annoyed.
"Do you know? Lately there are three people I always meet: Grandma, John, and you," Bryan replied with a laugh, and Dr. Edward joined in with his distinctive laugh.
"Look, people might misunderstand our closeness," Bryan continued irritably.
"Well, in that case, why don't you find a woman to go out with? So that the person you see more often is your girlfriend, not me. I have noticed that your work is improving."
"Well, everything is fine for now. So how are my test results?"
"As usual, your test results are clean. I'm actually surprised because you look so healthy, like you don't have a care in the world."
"Of course, I always take care of my health, and I don't let any minor illness attack my body. After all, everyone dies eventually. The only difference is when a person dies. I'm just trying to prolong my life.
"Bryan, you're really cool now."
Bryan laughed at Dr. Edward's compliment.
Someone came to Grandma's house as a matchmaker and brought profiles of women who all had faces similar to Angeline's. These women were all from wealthy families. Grandma was delighted because they all resembled Angeline.
"Wow, they're all very beautiful and similar. I'm sure Bryan will like one of them," Grandma said.
Madam Rose was also there, inspecting the backgrounds of these women.
"You are very good at finding women of the same status as Bryan," Madam Rose commented as she examined the women's backgrounds.
"I'm not looking for wealth or a good background like all that, that's not important to me," Grandma replied curtly. She then imagined Angeline as her granddaughter-in-law.
"I want a woman who is always proud of her hometown and who cares more about others than herself. I also want a woman who is always ready to say sorry and thank you. That's the kind of woman I'm looking for," Grandma said.
"Why don't you ask Angeline to be your granddaughter-in-law again, Grandma? The criteria you mentioned earlier all apply to Angeline," the matchmaker suggested.
"How could I hope for another perfect woman like Angeline? I feel like I would have no conscience if I did. Hah... what should I do?" Grandmother said, unable to force the situation.
Meanwhile, Madam Rose chose a profile of a woman she would match with Bryan. Madam Rose remained as cunning as ever and always intended to get rid of Bryan. By introducing one of the women she could exploit, Madam Rose continued to play her game subtly.
Alex was in the car with Angeline, and suddenly he reached out his hand as if asking Angeline to hold it. Angeline smiled and really held Alex's hand.
"Alex, it's dangerous to drive with one hand."
Alex let go of her hand immediately. "I can't possibly disobey Angeline's words."
Angeline smiled when she heard what Alex said.
Sera had become a popular teacher and many students, both boys and girls, flocked to her. It was time to go home and Bryan was waiting for Sera. Some of Sera's female students were captivated by Bryan's handsomeness, with one of them even saying that Bryan looked just like her ideal type.
"Wow, he's so handsome, just like my dream guy."
"Hey, don't get ahead of yourself. He already has his 'master'!" Sera jokingly scolded her students as they laughed.
Sera and Bryan went to a fancy restaurant with a romantic atmosphere.
"Sera, why do you have so many things with you?" Bryan asked.
"Oh, these are gifts from my former students who came to see the performance yesterday. They are members of the Sera Lovers Club."
"PPS? Is that like a political party or something?"
"That's the name of my fan club, short for Pemuda Pecinta Sera (Youth Who Love Sera)."
Bryan laughed, as did Sera. Sera then opened one of the gifts, which turned out to be a necklace.
"Wow, my former students have good taste."
"Can you help me with this? When I tried to put the necklace on, I had trouble with it, so I'm really begging you to help me put it on," Sera said, making a cute face. Bryan didn't refuse.
