Chapter 27: Suspicious Persons
Angeline shuddered in horror as she listened to Bryan's story, not realizing how uncertain and precarious Bryan's safety was.
"So why do you go everywhere alone? If your safety is at such risk, shouldn't you be hiring bodyguards to protect you?" Angeline asked curiously.
"You don't seem to be fully aware of that," Bryan replied.
"What do you mean?"
"Look at two o'clock and seven o'clock. Those are my bodyguards, and no one knows about them except you," Bryan explained. Angeline looked in the direction Bryan mentioned and suddenly realized that she had seen these four men many times when she was out with Bryan.
"Oh, why did I just notice them now? I've seen them before, but they didn't look like bodyguards."
"Exactly, as you said, my presence is indeed very dangerous. But I'm not an important person who needs overt protection. Therefore, you don't need to be tense or act differently. You've even investigated the reason behind the dessert we refused earlier."
Angeline couldn't believe what Bryan was saying, and a waiter and a woman in a chef's hat approached their table. The waiter even brought back the dessert they had refused earlier.
"Good evening, Mr. Bryan. I apologize for making your dinner uncomfortable and unsafe. I am Catherine, the chef here. I heard an explanation from one of your bodyguards about your refusal of the dessert I offered. I apologize if I was presumptuous, but I offered it as a celebration of the restaurant's anniversary, and only VIP customers receive it," the chef explained, feeling uncomfortable.
"Is that so? Your waiter should have explained. Anyway, I'm sorry, my wife and I can't accept this. We have to leave," Bryan replied curtly, motioning for Angeline to escort him out.
Still confused, Angeline followed Bryan's lead and walked beside him. Bryan offered his arm and whispered for Angeline to take it, and she did. They walked to the car together.
In the car, Bryan seemed frustrated and angry. He called out to John to investigate the restaurant they had just visited.
"Check out the restaurant and its chef, Catherine. And blacklist the restaurant from all our plans. I don't want to go there again," Bryan ordered, then ended the call.
"Why blacklist it? You said the restaurant's food was to your liking. Won't you miss it?"
"If I die, will you miss me?" Bryan replied, leaving Angeline unable to answer.
"I told you, I'm a person who is sought after by many parties. Even with bodyguards, it doesn't guarantee my safety. It's better to be careful than to die in vain."
"Alright, I understand."
"And the flower shop you ordered?"
Angeline looked at Bryan nervously, never imagining that he would pay attention to everything she did.
"John checked it out, and the shop is safe. You can still subscribe to the flower shop," Bryan continued, making Angeline breathe a sigh of relief.
"Thank God. I thought you were going to blacklist that shop too."
"Nothing to suspect, so why would I blacklist it?"
"It's nothing."
"It's nothing? But it seems like you're afraid that I'll ask you not to go back to the shop. Why?"
"I said it's nothing; I just feel bad if you ask me to change the flower shop."
"Like the dessert earlier?"
"No, I was tired from looking for the shop all night. So it feels like a waste if I have to change it," Angeline explained, and Bryan just nodded in understanding.
"Why did you choose flowers?" Bryan asked suddenly. Angeline turned around in surprise.
"Why... are you asking about that? Am I not allowed to garden?"
"Just curious, of all the activities you can do inside the house, why do you choose one outside?"
"Because I get bored. I'm too used to being outside from morning to night. And I have trouble sleeping because I'm used to sleeping only two hours a day. When I saw the big but empty backyard, I thought I would just start gardening. And it turns out that after a day of gardening, I feel very organized and sleep well at night. It keeps me from getting bored when I'm home alone," Angeline explained.
Angeline had a sad and frustrated look on her face. Bryan could see it and realized that Angeline was not yet used to her life as Mrs. Bryan Wilson. But Bryan didn't stop her and gave her the freedom to do what she wanted.
"Okay."
They arrived home and before Bryan could get up, he received a call from John that made him return to the car. Without saying anything, Bryan left Angeline, who was watching him from the front door.
"What's the point of having so much money and a big company if you're still busy with work even on vacation? You can't even have a quiet meal," Angeline muttered, feeling sorry for Bryan, and then went into the house.
John called Bryan and told him what had happened. Bryan met John at the office and John immediately showed him the video he had found.
"Her name is Chaterine Alya. She's only been the chef there for two weeks. And today is not the restaurant's anniversary. That means there was a reason the chef gave you the extra dessert, Mr. President," John explained.
"What is this video?"
"This is a video of Chaterine meeting with the CFO."
"Mrs. Rose?"
"Yes, they met a few times before she became head chef. But I haven't found out what they were up to with these secret meetings."
Bryan fell silent and thought for a long time. He was puzzled as to why the head chef, who had only been there two weeks, would dare to lie and give him dessert, especially when he was with Angeline.
"I can't find the answer. Check their meetings again and find out what they're planning. I have a feeling it has something to do with Angeline," Bryan ordered.
"Mrs. Angeline?"
"Yes, because I ate there alone yesterday. But she didn't give me this dessert."
"So it's as if she waited for Mrs. Angeline to arrive and gave her the dessert immediately, regardless of whether you would refuse it or not?"
"Yes, Angeline is too innocent. She almost ate the dessert. Whether it's poisonous or not, I don't want to put Angeline in danger."
"I understand. I'll investigate further. And about the flower shop, they're clean."
"I know," Bryan said, surprising John because John had just investigated and was about to report his findings.
"How do you know, Mr. President?"
"I know the owner of the flower shop. I didn't expect Angeline to find the shop."
"All right then, you can go home."
"I'm going to work here late."
"Why? Isn't your wife waiting at home?" John teased, and immediately received a document punch from Bryan.
