Chapter 36 - Branch Opening Ceremony
Bryan seemed reluctant to say what they should do tonight. The reason was that Angeline would definitely not be calm if she had to leave when her mother's operation wasn't over yet. And Angeline could see his worry. Angeline knew she had to do something, so Angeline wiped away her tears and looked at Bryan steadily.
"Just say it, I'll do it," Angeline said, trying to be strong.
"Are you going to be okay?"
"Of course not, my mother is still in surgery. But isn't that what you're supposed to do?" asked Angeline and Bryan couldn't deny it.
"Okay, tonight we have to go to a branch opening ceremony. Usually not all the high ranking officials are invited along with their wives. But it looks like Mrs. Rose is planning something," Bryan explained worriedly.
"I'll be ready to go. Are we coming separately?" she asked.
"Yes, my driver will pick you up. Just say where you want to be picked up. "If you want to be here, I will tell John to get everything ready at the hospital."
"No need, I'll go home. But can I go home during the day?"
"Of course, I have to take you to the cafeteria now."
"What? Why are we going to the cafeteria?"
"I know you won't have any appetite, but at least something has to go into your stomach so you don't get sick. Your mother... definitely wouldn't want you to get sick just because you're worried about her."
"Okay, I'll eat a little."
"If you don't eat lunch and dinner, that's okay. But you still need to be strong to get through today."
"I understand. Let's have breakfast, you're going to the office too, right?"
Angeline and Bryan went to the hospital cafeteria. They ordered waffles and a cup of coffee for Bryan and a glass of milk for Angeline. However, the breakfast was bland and unappetizing. Neither Bryan nor Angeline enjoyed their breakfast.
"Looks like you can't eat that," Bryan said, pulling Angeline out of her reverie.
"Oh yeah, I'm really not in the mood. "I'll just drink the milk and go back to the waiting room," Angeline said and drank half of the milk.
"It's best not to wait in the waiting room, wait in your mother's room. I'll have someone stand guard outside the operating room."
"No, don't forbid me to wait in the waiting room. I beg you," Angeline said and Bryan nodded in understanding.
"Are you ready?" Bryan asked and got up to leave.
"Are you ready to go? "You haven't even had a sip of your coffee," Angeline said, holding Bryan back.
Bryan turned his head and saw the concern on Angeline's face. Bryan took his coffee cup and finished it in one gulp.
"That's it, come on!"
Angeline stared in surprise but didn't say anything. He walked over to Bryan. They separated in front of the elevator. Bryan couldn't stay long and had to get to the office immediately.
"Be careful on the way, don't worry about me. "I'll go home after lunch," Angeline said, remembering her promise.
"Okay, then I will be waiting for you in the hotel lobby at seven in the evening," Bryan said and took the elevator down to the lobby. Meanwhile, Angeline went to the operating room, which was still on the same floor as the cafeteria.
Bryan arrived at the office, John was already there, giving a report.
"What is this?" Bryan asked.
"I met with Nicolas and this is his confession," John said. Bryan read the report and his face became stiff.
There was anger inside Bryan that he couldn't express. Bryan held back his anger and closed the report.
"What do you think? What should we do?"
"I've already made a plan in case something bad happens at the meeting tonight. And I think Mrs. Rose will take advantage of it. I was too focused on Kayle and fell a step behind."
Bryan was thoughtful, thinking hard to find a solution to the problem that might arise at tonight's event. Bryan clenched his fists, feeling that Mrs. Rose had really gone too far.
He didn't even dare to guess what was going on in Mrs. Rose's mind and what she intended to do with tonight's event.
"But do they know about Angeline's mother?" asked Bryan, remembering Kayle, who almost knew Angeline's secret.
"Fortunately, Kayle doesn't know what the President and Mrs. Angeline are doing here. He was unable to find any information and knew nothing about Mrs. Angeline. And I silenced him and sent him away," John explained, a little relieved.
"Where did you send him? Are you sure Mrs. Rose won't come looking for him?"
"She won't, because Kayle wants a billion for the information she provided. But Madam Rose would only give him a hundred million if he could find out more information. Or put him in jail for spreading false news."
"So? How do you shut him up? Are you sure he won't come back and threaten Angeline?"
"I gave him what he wanted."
"A billion?"
"Just an asset worth a billion on a remote island near Australia. And a hundred million in cash. "He will never be able to sell that asset because it has absolutely no value," John said with a sly smile.
"Okay, get ready for the evening show. "Make sure no one touches Angeline," Bryan ordered, and John nodded.
At the hospital, a restless Angeline kept pacing back and forth, looking at the operating room that was still in progress. Angeline couldn't stay still and kept sighing. He was very scared and began to doubt whether he should come to the party tonight. Or stay here.
Angeline waited for hours without eating or drinking. His face was already very pale from dehydration. But Angeline didn't even feel like drinking water. Until someone came and made Angeline cry sadly.
"Sister Angeline, why are you here?" asked Michael, who came from his education.
"Why did you come here? How is your school?" asked Angeline who was worried about her sister.
"Brother who shouldn't have come here? What's your job like? If you get fired, what will you do?" Michael asked worriedly.
"I won't be fired, my boss told me about mom's situation and brought me here. What about you?
"I have permission, the hospital people called and told me the mother's condition. Sister... if you're busy, let me take care of you. I'm fine, the tests are still far away," Michael said, assuring Angeline not to worry too much about her mother's condition.
Angeline looked doubtful and teary-eyed when she saw the operating room. His heart was still confused and not calm when he had to go. Someone came to take Angeline.
"Madam, we have to go now," the man said.
