Chapter 93 - Meeting Jason
Grandma, puzzled by Bryan's behavior, decided to call John.
"John, do you know what happened to Bryan yesterday? Why is he acting so weird this morning?"
"How strange?"
"It's like he's still thinking about Angeline. And there is no woman like Angeline, that's why Bryan is still alone, right?"
"It's possible, but a while ago, the President met Angeline, and Angeline has become even more beautiful, more beautiful than Cleopatra."
"Really? Does Angeline look healthy?"
"Yes."
"Thank God. Can you arrange a meeting between me and Angeline?"
"I'll ask her."
"All right, I'll wait for the news."
Now Grandma and Angeline finally met. Grandma looked happy to see Angeline.
"Oh my, Angeline's eyes are still the same. Just like when Angeline was my granddaughter," Grandma said with tears in her eyes.
"I'm sorry I didn't call you first, Grandma. Instead, you called and invited me to meet you. But I'm glad to see you," Angeline said, holding Grandma's hand with tears in her eyes.
"I am also very happy to meet Angeline. And I would be even happier if Angeline would be my granddaughter again, just like before".
Angeline was silent, her expression changed.
"Grandma, Bryan and I have ended our relationship. It seems we can't be together anymore."
"Why? Don't you have any compassion for your child-"
"I'm sorry," Angeline interrupted Grandma's words, who seemed to want to convince Angeline. Grandma also knew that there was no hope for her to have Angeline as her perfect granddaughter-in-law.
"All right, Grandma won't talk like that anymore. But can you show me what your child looks like? What's his name? Is he three years old? He must be very lively."
"Jason, he's grown into a handsome and lively child," Angeline said, showing a photo of Jason from her cell phone.
In his office, Bryan found himself playing Angeline's interview video from the opening of the exhibition in New York. It was the only way he could enjoy seeing Angeline again, enjoying her beauty, and remembering the flowers he once possessed.
Suddenly, John entered Bryan's office and surprised him. Bryan quickly turned off his laptop screen, and John approached him and offered his cheek for Bryan to pat -- a gesture indicating that John wanted a pat on the cheek. Bryan reluctantly patted John's cheek while grumbling.
"Can't you knock on the door first?"
John handed Bryan a final report on several artist candidates they were considering for their project. Bryan noticed that Ellie's name was missing from the list.
"She's...not here."
"Wasn't the President adamant about not wanting Ellie on our project? That's why I removed Ellie's name from the list."
"This selection process will be done carefully and without haste. I will meet the candidates personally and take my time in making decisions," Bryan said. It seemed that he was still hoping for Ellie. If her name had been on the list, he might have made a quick and hasty decision.
"It seems that even now the President can't get Angeline out of his mind. Why don't you ask her to come back? It might be embarrassing, but it's not a problem; what's important is to be together. Besides, our problem with Madam Rose is already solved. So what are you afraid of?"
"Angeline is happy now, and she already has a good man by her side. I don't think I need to disrupt her life by asking her to come back."
John could only look at his boss with a sad expression. He knew very well how much Bryan longed for Angeline.
"All right, let's go."
"Where are we going, Mr. President? You don't seem to have any important appointments today."
"You are mean. You're not my shadow, but why do you keep following me around, always wanting to know where I'm going? Do you follow me even when I'm out on a date? You're like a zombie. Stop following me!" Bryan said before he left the room.
After Bryan left, John continued to look at him with a sad expression.
"President Bryan... I know today is the day of Angeline's accident. Are you going to sit there all night again this time?"
Angeline took Jason out to dinner, inadvertently choosing a restaurant near the site of her accident.
"Does Jason want fried chicken again?" Angeline asked, holding Jason's hand as they walked.
"Eung! Ayam goleng!" Jason shouted with joy. Angeline smiled, happy to have dinner alone with Jason.
As Angeline and Jason were about to cross the street, Bryan arrived with a box of cake in his hand. He seemed pleased until he saw Angeline, and Angeline's expression reflected his surprise.
"Why are you here, Bryan?" Angeline asked, noticing the box of cake in his hand. She realized that Bryan had come to the scene of her accident and had almost lost Jason.
"You don't need to come back. I'm fine. So there's no point in coming here," Bryan replied, not understanding why Angeline was growing colder towards him. Then he saw a small child standing behind Angeline's legs.
"Is he... Jason, our son?" Bryan asked, his eyes filled with tears.
"Jason is my son," Angeline replied, not wanting to hear Bryan's words. "You relinquished all rights to Jason before the accident," she reminded him, recalling the divorce agreement she had read that Sera had brought the night of the accident.
"Ellie, you changed your name because you wanted to start a new life, right? Then it's stupid of you to come here and bring up all these bad memories. When Jason hears all this, he'll laugh at you."
"What do you mean? Whether I started a new life or became a new person, I came here to have dinner with my son. So don't overthink it."
The light turned green and Angeline carried Jason across the street, leaving Bryan behind. Bryan wanted to chase after them, but decided against it when he saw Angeline's cold and harsh demeanor.
Bryan sat near a tree and looked up at the sky. "Jason, you've grown into such a handsome and tall boy. Ah, I should have given you this," he said, as if inviting Jason to share something sweet with him. Bryan pulled out the cake, which looked very sweet.
"Jason... Dad wants to apologize to you again this year. I can't be there for you as you grow up." Bryan remembered the first time he met Jason and smiled, realizing how capable Angeline had been in raising him. Even with her busy schedule, she always made time for Jason.
"When you grow up, will you understand?" Bryan asked, hoping that Jason wouldn't be disappointed in him when he grew up.
