Chapter 78 - Writing a Letter
Angeline was in Alex's café. Alex returned the cup that Bryan had used and that Angeline had prepared for him.
"Alex, forgive me for feeling like I'm not myself lately," Angeline apologized.
"Angeline, what if Bryan doesn't regain his memory?" Alex asked.
"I choose not to dwell on the worst case scenarios. I will trust and wait for him," Angeline replied with a smile.
Alex didn't know what to say.
"I'm going to France next week because my partnership with a client has ended. I want to sell this café. I've almost lost hope of finding my brother here," Alex explained.
"What? So you're leaving and giving up this café?" Angeline said, a little surprised by the sudden decision. But she respected Alex's decision.
"I hope you find happiness there," Angeline added and said goodbye.
After leaving Alex, Angeline went to her prenatal class. It was her last class. As usual, she chose to sit in the back. Ms. Paul explained that her final assignment for the class was to write a heartfelt letter to her future child.
Everyone was ready to write, including Angeline. She glanced at the door several times, hoping that Bryan would appear, just as he had during her sewing class for Semesta. But this time Bryan wasn't there and that made Angeline a little sad.
Angeline began to concentrate on writing, playing the role of Bryan in the letter. She even made her writing sound deliberately heavy to resemble Bryan.
"Semesta...this is your father," she wrote.
Then Angeline changed the sentence to, "Semesta... it's me, Bryan... Hahahaha". Angeline tried to imitate Bryan's peculiar laugh, albeit softly.
Suddenly Bryan's laughter echoed around the room. Angeline was startled and it turned out that Bryan was actually at the door, stepping inside and continuing to laugh with his distinctive laugh.
Bryan sat down next to Angeline and continued to feign amnesia.
"I know that you are expecting our child. So I'm going to do my duty as a father," Bryan explained, and Angeline responded with a sweet smile.
"So, what shall we write? Should I continue what you've written or should I choose the words?" Bryan asked, asking Angeline to write the letter to their child while he chose the words.
"Semesta... the world is evolving and life is beautiful."
But suddenly Bryan changed his sentence.
"I have to be more realistic," Angeline didn't object and prepared to write again.
"Semesta... life can be very lonely and the world can be hard. Wealth and fame are of no use if you do not live a long life. That means... you must do your best to survive in this world. Try to avoid stress and overwork, and eat only healthy food. Be careful of dogs, cars, and fire."
Angeline began to find Bryan's letter quite strange. She just stared at Bryan, but Bryan continued with his sentences.
"But isn't the content of this letter too serious for our future child, even though it's a love letter?" Angeline asked.
"No, this is a letter to teach our child how to live in the future. So I want Angeline to keep writing as long as she remembers and remains serious.
After the prenatal class, Angeline and Bryan were at the raw stingray fish restaurant where Angeline had eaten earlier and where they had been together. Angeline suddenly laughed, which startled Bryan.
"When we first came here, you used to stuff cotton balls up your nose because you couldn't stand the smell of that food," Angeline explained. Bryan smiled when he heard that.
"I would never do that. I'm a man who never loses his dignity."
Angeline shook her head.
"You're wrong. There are many things that may sound silly to you, but you did them, like running for your life because of a dog. You also sang karaoke with my friends. You really are a good husband. You always make me smile.
"Have I ever hurt you? Or made you cry?" Bryan asked.
"No, not even once did you make me cry. Not even a little bit. You even turned me from a Post-It girl into a Super Glue girl. I even became a princess for one night like in the movies because of you."
Bryan remembered their honeymoon when he changed Angeline's appearance just to help him with his work. Angeline really fascinated him because she looked so beautiful then.
"But Angeline, no one can be with you forever, you know that, right? Eventually you have to fight on your own."
"I try to live like this because I want to be your strength, so you can lean on me like I leaned on you. When you remember everything, I want to be with you again."
Then Angeline gave Bryan the birthday present he had requested a few days earlier.
"This gift is called 'Bryan's Mug. You asked for it a few days ago."
Bryan took it and looked at the gift.
"Well, what do you think? Does the drawing look just like you?" Angeline asked. Bryan fell silent, holding back tears from the overwhelming emotions.
To hide his feelings, Bryan suddenly grabbed a piece of raw stingray in front of Angeline and ate it.
"Are you okay eating that? You don't like it," Angeline said and immediately poured water for Bryan to wash away the unpleasant taste of the raw stingray.
Bryan was in the office when John entered, bringing documents that needed Bryan's approval. He also brought a draft of an event to entertain Angeline, since Bryan had been putting her through a rough time lately.
"John, is this like setting off fireworks by the river?"
"Mr. President, please don't mention this incident. I was very nervous because the fireworks didn't go off properly."
Suddenly, John realized something. "Wait, has Mr. President remembered everything now?" he asked excitedly, and Bryan burst out laughing at John's reaction.
"I'm going to tell Angeline-"
"Don't! I want you to keep this information from Angeline for now. I have a feeling that something isn't right about this accident. I can't imagine how much it would hurt her," Bryan explained.
John looked at Bryan with a sad expression on his face. He knew that Bryan was tormented by this situation and was trying to deal with it on his own without causing pain to the people he cared about. No matter how much he was suffering, Bryan didn't want Angeline or anyone else to suffer because of him.
Bryan arranged a meeting with Sera. Sera was happy because she also wanted to meet Bryan today.
"Bryan, to be honest, I was a bit surprised when you suddenly left."
"Sera... let's just part ways."
"Why? Is it because of her? Because of Angeline?"
"No. I'm going to solve this problem with her as well," Bryan explained.
