Chapter 68 - The Man from the Past
Angeline stared in surprise at the familiar figure, a man who was no stranger to her. A man she once trusted, a man who held a special place in Angeline's heart. A man who had once been her hope to rise from the depths of her life.
But everything changed when this man betrayed her. He stabbed her in the back and made Angeline lose everything. He forced Angeline to start over after she had achieved so much.
Angeline felt a burning rage in her heart. She wanted so badly to vent her frustration at everything Erick had done to her in the past. But Angeline was aware of her current situation. She couldn't act impulsively and had to think about avoiding the man.
"Typical! Upper class people always act as they please, just like Agnes did earlier. So you have to be smart to survive in situations like this," Erick said as if he cared. But Erick, who was standing unsteadily, made Angeline realize that he was already drunk.
"Thank you for your help; I have to go," Angeline said, intending to leave after thanking Erick for lending her the handkerchief. However, the inebriated Erick began to say strange things that were overheard by all the guests.
"Don't pretend to be a graceful lady; have you forgotten that I used to be your boss?"
Angeline didn't care; she walked away from Erick, who was now acting very recklessly. Erick seemed to climb onto the stage and began to address all the guests present.
"Test... test... hello to all of you who have come to the mini charity event," Erick said in his drunken voice.
Angeline was forced to stop and stare in frustration.
"Ah... are you disturbed? I apologize, but... I'm standing here because... I'm going to introduce all the guests to a very special woman tonight. She is Angeline, the wife of President Director Bryan Wilson," Erick said, looking at Angeline who was incredibly embarrassed.
Angeline couldn't understand what was going through Erick's mind. What was he planning? Meanwhile, all the guests were focused on Angeline who was being pointed out by Erick. Angeline felt extremely embarrassed with all the attention from the guests who didn't recognize her.
She seems embarrassed because she's never been to a party like this before. You all seem curious, so I'll tell you a little about her. Her name is Angeline and she's 25 years old. She used to be a contract employee at a law firm. It seems that you've also heard the recent gossip. The gossip is true. She's the phenomenal Miss B. The latest sensation in all the tabloids. She married a man who already had a girlfriend by getting pregnant with his child. She's like the Cinderella of the 21st century," Erick continued with a sardonic smile.
Angeline felt like she wanted to disappear at a moment like this. Being humiliated in front of a crowd was not what she had come to this party for. All she could do was bow her head and hold back her tears. It was obvious that all this had made people talk about Angeline, who they thought was too bold to come here without shame.
Suddenly, Angeline's Prince Charming arrived, clapping his hands and approaching Erick, who looked frightened when he saw Bryan. Bryan asked for the microphone and Erick obliged.
"Hey, trash! Shut up and get out of here."
The words were heard by all the guests and Erick was humiliated by Bryan's words. Bryan then moved gracefully into the middle of the musicians.
"Hello, good evening, everyone who has come here. Allow me to introduce myself; I am President Director Bryan Wilson, a name that has been discussed worldwide. I'm sure you all recognize me because my face is always in the magazines these days," Bryan introduced himself, nodding politely to everyone.
It was a stark contrast to Erick, who had spoken drunkenly and without any manners at all. Everyone in the room fell silent, their attention focused on Bryan, who was also incredibly handsome. Many of them still regretted Bryan's marriage to Angeline, whom they considered unworthy.
"I am sure you are all wondering and I will answer what made you curious earlier is WRONG. Why is that? Because Angeline got pregnant a month after we got married. If you don't believe me, I will bring a doctor to prove it. And I won't explain anything further," Bryan's speech stopped for a moment and he looked at Angeline, who had been holding back tears since earlier.
"But... there is something you don't know. That is... the fact that... she is a very strange woman. I've lived with her and I know she's very eccentric. When you look at her, she's really beautiful. When beauty becomes boring, but she... she is also awkward and very sweet. She's also kind. That's why I feel uncomfortable being the only one who really knows her. So today I am going to tell you all about her. Listen."
Everyone listened attentively to every word Angeline said. Even Erick glared in frustration at Bryan's arrival, which made him look like a coward.
Bryan stepped off the stage, still holding the microphone, and walked over to Angeline.
"This woman is not smart; she's also bad at counting because she didn't study hard in school. Her math grades were the worst."
Angeline cried when she heard what Bryan said because it was all true. That's what her mother used to say.
"But this woman knows how to be sincere with others. She's good at taking care of people's wounds and comforting them. That's why she's ordinary, but incredibly special. She's my beloved wife. Angeline."
Angeline cried, but this time her tears were tears of joy. Bryan's words were incredibly complimentary of her. Bryan then asked everyone to applaud for his beloved wife and the guests did not hesitate to do so.
Bryan stopped in front of Angeline and smiled sweetly at her.
"A diamond that hasn't been polished like you shouldn't be surrounded by crumbs like these."
Bryan winked and smiled at Angeline. Angeline returned Bryan's smile as she wiped away her tears.
"Would you like to leave with me? This place doesn't seem to be right for you," Bryan said and held out his hand to Angeline.
Angeline looked at him with emotion and almost cried again. Bryan shook his hand and urged Angeline to answer.
"Okay, let's go now," Angeline said and took Bryan's outstretched hand.
Bryan immediately led Angeline out of the party room. All the guests applauded the couple. They were deeply moved by Bryan's confession and were now convinced that all the rumors were false.
Some reporters who had discreetly attended the party immediately published the news, restoring Angeline's good name.
Mrs. Rose pounded the table when she heard the news. She couldn't believe that Bryan had managed to save Angeline again.
