Chapter 167: When Did You Come Back?
Besides that woman, it seemed pretty evident that no one else would go to such extremes against her.
Thinking about this possibility, Martina's mood became slightly suppressed.
She glanced in Benjamin's direction and felt conflicted inside because she didn't know if she should directly tell him about what she speculated. What if speaking out didn't have any effect and only brought Benjamin's displeasure, making the current situation even more awkward? What should she do then?
Martina's inner worries were indeed more than most people, but it was understandable. She and Benjamin had more experiences together than others, and although Benjamin had changed recently, who could guarantee that this change wasn't temporary?
When it came to real interests or relationships, could she be sure that Benjamin would still stand firmly by her side without hesitation?
However, before Martina said anything, Benjamin already noticed that Martina seemed to have something on her mind. It was because he had already focused his attention entirely on her that he could detect anything amiss right away.
Benjamin thought that Martina had been scared, so he instinctively embraced her waist without saying a word.
Seeing her always looking so charming no matter what she wore, he couldn't help but feel possessive, although he knew he shouldn't let these feelings affect her. These thoughts and desires shouldn't be the reasons for him to deliberately possess her.
"What are you thinking? Are you still thinking about what happened earlier?" Although Benjamin was asking, his tone carried a sense of certainty.
Martina hesitated with her words, still conflicted about whether she should say it or not.
"Benjamin..." Martina called his name and then shook her head. "Forget it, it's nothing. After all, it's in the past, and you came just in time today."
Martina intended to deal with the remaining matters on her own terms. If she were to tell Benjamin everything, no matter what choice he made, it wouldn't feel fair to her. Regardless of success or failure, at least it relied on her own abilities, and she didn't need to worry about others' opinions or risk arousing suspicion.
Benjamin noticed Martina's hesitation, sensing that she didn't plan to tell him the whole truth. Could it be that something else happened when they were at the bar?
He decided to patiently investigate. Whatever the reason behind it, there must be some cause and effect to this matter.
If someone was truly plotting against Martina, their fate would be even more disastrous than it was before! Benjamin was not the type to let things go easily. If someone dared to provoke him, they would have to pay a painful price.
Moreover, those people picked the wrong target by messing with Martina. They had touched a nerve with Benjamin, and now everyone who knew him was aware of how important Martina was to him. Those who underestimated him would naturally face the consequences.
Even though Martina didn't tell him, he will find out what happened. If he were to find out the truth, the consequences would be even more severe.
In the following time, Martina became somewhat absent-minded, clearly preoccupied with other things.
Benjamin comprehended the situation but refrained from questioning her further, knowing that a thorough investigation was imperative. Though he sensed that Martina didn't completely trust him, he remained patient. Some matters required a gradual change.
The thought of those individuals underestimating the gravity of the situation ignited a burning anger within Benjamin. He felt an intense urge to kill them. He would never tolerate anyone who had mistreated Martina!
They decided to send Elena back home.
Alejandro, who was supposed to be away, unexpectedly appeared at the front gate. Elena's expression turned uneasy the moment she saw her brother. She even had the urge to go straight back to the car. If she wasn't aware that doing so would make her look even more guilty, she might have done that exactly.
She tried her best to maintain a calm demeanor as she greeted Alejandro awkwardly, "Hey, when did you come back? You didn't tell me in advance."
Had Elena been aware that Alejandro had returned, she certainly wouldn't have slipped off to the bar, and all the subsequent events wouldn't have unfolded.
After the incident, Elena felt particularly guilty, believing that everything happened because of her.
With her brother back, her heart couldn't help but race violently, fearing that she might accidentally reveal something and it could prevent her from going out again in the future.
Alejandro wasn't sure if he had seen through anything, but his expression was not as usual. His eyes glanced subtly towards the black car, and he casually asked, "Where did you go? Why did you come back so late?"
Elena couldn't help trembling all over, but she didn't want to reveal anything, so she continued pretending to be nonchalant. "I... I just went out for a late-night snack and happened to meet Martina. I didn't do anything else. You have to believe me, I really didn't do anything!"
Elena's words now felt like a feeble attempt to cover up, and Alejandro wasn't a fool. How could he possibly believe her? He just couldn't be bothered to expose her.
Alejandro waved his hand and furrowed his brows slightly, asking, "Why do you smell like alcohol? Have you drunk?"
Although Elena's consciousness was clear now, the effects of the alcohol hadn't completely worn off. It was not going to be easy for her to smoothly handle the situation ahead. It seemed like successfully deceiving everyone would require Alejandro's cooperation, or else it would be impossible to pull it off.
At this moment, Martina stepped out of the car too, as she doubted whether Elena could handle the situation alone.
Martina greeted Alejandro proactively, "Alejandro, when did you come back? Elena just said you weren't here, and she missed you."
The displeasure in Alejandro's eyes gradually dissipated at this moment, perhaps because he saw Martina.
