Chapter 212: Preparing in Advance
Although Martina said this on the surface, in reality, if something really happened some day, she might choose to silently bear it alone to avoid causing trouble to anyone. But at this critical moment, she was unsure of what else to say besides this.
The meal went by quickly, and near its end, Jack seemed to remember something that wasn't quite appropriate and couldn't help but discuss it with Benjamin again. At that time, Martina had just gone to the restroom, unaware of their conversation.
"Brat, there's something I want to ask you, and you better explain it to me clearly, or you'll get a slap across your face!"
Such phrases were heard countless times by Benjamin today, and he had become numb to them. Naturally, there wasn't much to say. He said, "Please go ahead. I will provide all the details."
Perhaps because of the lessons from earlier, Benjamin wasn't afraid, especially since Martina wouldn't be affected by this. He was naturally fearless. Martina was his weakness, which was why he had hesitated earlier, even though he didn't actually think that way.
Jack was grumbling but somewhat satisfied. He hummed a couple of times, appearing somewhat proud. However, considering his age, it was understandable. After all, there was nothing wrong with being a little proud at his age.
"I need to know more about the situation with the Paloma family. What has been their reaction to your actions? And what is the current situation with Amy? What kind of outcome is she facing?" Jack inquired.
He took a deep breath and made all the arrangements in advance.
"I'm glad you've told me everything. I suspect that news of my return will reach Gary soon, and he might come looking for me. I need to be prepared for that."
In case Gary came to visit Jack, it would be embarrassing if Jack didn't know anything. What's more, even if Jack wanted to support Martina, without a clear understanding of the situation, it wouldn't be effective.
Benjamin, understanding Jack's concerns, didn't hide anything and revealed all the details. Most of what Martina had said before were her feelings, without any intent to vilify. In fact, she had downplayed the situation, and it wasn't the true picture.
Even so, with the presentation of the actual facts by Benjamin, Jack grew angrier, wishing to take action against Amy immediately.
"But I didn't expect Amy to be so malicious. She actually arranged someone to rape Martina?" he said, furiously. "Previously, I thought she might have been unwell, affecting her physical and mental faculties. But now, it's clear that she isn't unwell at all. She's completely unhinged! I thought what Martina said earlier was the actual situation, but the truth turns out even worse."
The more Jack thought about it, the more he felt for Martina. Given the circumstances, Martina hadn't even revealed the full extent of the situation, which truly touched him.
Thinking about the events from before, Jack couldn't help but shudder at the thought of what might have happened if Benjamin hadn't intervened in time. He was so angry that his eyes nearly shot fire. He wished he could confront Amy right now.
However, Amy had already been arrested and was serving the punishment he deserved. Jack, being an elder, knew it might not be appropriate to take matters into his own hands, as it could easily provoke unwanted attention. So, some things could only remain as thoughts, unfulfilled in reality. That was just the way it had to be.
Now, hearing Benjamin's account of everything that had transpired, Jack was quickly formulating a strategy, primarily aimed at dealing with Gary. Otherwise, dealing with Gary could prove to be exceedingly difficult. After all, the two had known each other for many years, and they understood each other quite well. Jack had to be unpredictable to change the situation.
Luckily, Gary hadn't yet learned about Jack's return. It was a secret, meant to take everyone by surprise. So, for now, they were safe from a direct confrontation. In the coming days, Jack had a chance to think through the possible outcomes.
In the meantime, they would await the judgment of Amy. Since she had taken such extreme measures, she would pay the price. It was all proportionate.
It had to be said that Benjamin and Jack seemed to be on the same page. Even their actions were coordinated and in sync, a testament to the level of understanding between the grandfather and grandson.
When Martina returned, the two of them had already discussed almost everything and were just waiting to go back together.
Seeing the somewhat awkward atmosphere between them, Martina did have some questions in mind. However, after reconsidering, she decided that it might not be the right time to ask, so she kept her thoughts to herself, pretending like she hadn't noticed anything. She understood that the two men had their reasons for doing things a certain way, and she didn't want to interfere.
On the way home, Jack chatted with Martina, and this was when Benjamin started to notice something was amiss. He couldn't understand why his future wife had left his side the moment his grandfather returned. While he knew that his grandfather and Martina had a close relationship, he found this separation a bit too much.
Was it intentional? Benjamin was the type of person who couldn't stand even the slightest intrusion in his personal matters, especially when it came to his feelings.
If it weren't for the fact that the man was his grandfather, he might have been angry. Nevertheless, his demeanor changed, and he exuded an air of dissatisfaction that was hard to ignore.
Simon couldn't help but laugh quietly again. It seemed like today's drama exceeded the amount of drama they'd witnessed in a year. Even their boss had never been in such an uncomfortable situation before.
