Chapter 195: With or Without Sincerity
Martina appeared to give it some serious thought. "Well, I can't guarantee anything. If I'm in a good mood, I might have time soon. If I'm not, it might be a few days before I'm free. Of course, as I mentioned before, I want to see your sincerity. If you're not genuinely committed to this, you can forget it, and I'll consider our conversation null and void."
Though Adam could sense that Martina was deliberately testing him, he had a genuine request, so he could only agree. "Alright, I'll wait for you. I want to see how ruthless you really are. But I promise I won't get angry."
The last sentence was almost gritted through his teeth. Would he really not get angry? It didn't seem that way.
Martina didn't say more and hung up the phone, putting it in her pants pocket.
When she returned to the office, she found Elena and Alejandro talking in front of the computer, probably discussing architectural matters. They stopped their discussion when they saw Martina approaching.
"You were gone for quite a while. I was about to step out and look for you," Elena said, expressing her concern.
Martina gave a faint smile, not wanting to involve Elena any further, so she told a little white lie, "I received a call from a family member, which led to a longer conversation. But everything's fine now."
Elena didn't suspect anything and said, "I see. Well, I've discussed the general situation with my brother. Next, we'll go straight to working on the drawings. Is that okay on your end?"
Martina nodded, "I'm fine with it. We'll proceed according to your plan."
Then, she hesitated for a moment and glanced at Alejandro, saying, "As for the meal, you go with Elena. I might have some personal matters to attend to later."
Alejandro's eyebrows twitched slightly. "Why? Is there something you don't like? Or..." He refrained from asking, "Do you want to have a meal with me?" as he realized that their current relationship was not suitable for such questions. He suppressed his inner discomfort and responded, "Alright, if you're done with your business, you can call me then."
Martina nodded, finished up the remaining work on her design drawings, picked up her bag, and prepared to step out.
Leaving the rest area, she noticed that Leslie was still resting and sleeping soundly. She gently tugged at Leslie's arm, but he didn't wake up. She thought for a moment and decided to let him continue sleeping. After all, Adam wouldn't dare to do anything at the moment.
With this in mind, Martina informed the receptionist that there was no need to wake up Leslie. Then, she left the building.
The receptionist found this rather peculiar. How could a bodyguard be napping during working hours? Nevertheless, this was what her boss wanted. She knew very well that she should prioritize following her employer's orders, especially considering who paid her salary.
Martina slowly made her way to the neighboring café. Initially, she considered making Adam wait a bit longer. However, she soon decided it was unnecessary since she was already planning to meet him. Rather than delaying, she thought she might as well meet him earlier to satisfy her curiosity and find out what he wanted.
Martina arrived at the café's entrance. Even before stepping inside, she spotted Adam sitting conspicuously by the floor-to-ceiling windows. There were several cups of coffee in front of him, indicating that he was quite agitated.
Due to the distance, Martina couldn't make out the exact content of Adam's conversation on his phone. However, she had a pretty good guess that it wasn't anything pleasant, possibly something related to her.
At that moment, she felt a bit irritated. She recalled a nearby restaurant with delicious food. Maybe she would make Adam wait a bit longer while she had a meal there.
Martina quickly changed her position without Adam noticing her. She decided to have a meal first, thinking that she shouldn't make herself suffer too much. After all, if she didn't even care about herself, who else would?
In reality, Adam was busy hurling insults over the phone.
"Grandfather, you have no idea how spoiled Martinez is. I needed her help for something important, and she's making me wait here. I've been waiting for hours!"
Gary let out a cold huff, and his mood was slightly affected. He didn't want to show his annoyance too clearly; after all he couldn't completely disregard his dignity because Adam was not a child anymore.
"You brat, instead of complaining, do you have a better solution? Just keep waiting. As long as we can rescue Amy first, nothing else matters. You'll have plenty of chances for revenge in the future, but for now, we need to prioritize the important thing."
"Of course I understand. I'm just venting to you," Adam changed his tone upon hearing this. "I'll keep waiting. I want to see how far that woman can take things. I'll have plenty of chances to deal with her later!"
Perhaps it was the last sentence that finally improved Adam's complexion a bit. He thought, "Well, I'll just wait for now. There will be plenty of chances in the future to fire back, and then, no one will change his mind."
Martina spent about an hour having her meal, ensuring she was fully satisfied. Afterward, she made her way slowly to the café.
This time, Adam seemed to sense her presence like a psychic. He accurately spotted Martina standing at the door.
Subconsciously, Adam clenched his fist and resumed his internal curses, but he didn't dare to be too obvious on the surface. He even managed to produce a smile that looked more like a cry, nearly startling Martina.
Martina hesitated and thought, "Is Adam's smile really this scary? Has he lost his mind?"
Under the gaze of Adam, she walked step by step to the seat opposite him, calmly asking a waiter for a cup of coffee. Then she crossed her long, slender legs and casually cast a glance at Adam.
She was acting as if she knew something but pretended to be ignorant, asking, "Alright, what do you want from me?"
The moment Adam saw Martina's demeanor, he became quite irritated and said, "What I want from you? Stop pretending! Don't you know what you've done?"
