Chapter 200: Do You Really Think This Is Your Home?
Elena found it hard to understand Martina's thought process. How could the two of them sit down for a chat or even have a meal together?
Thankfully, Martina quickly clarified things and made it clear that she hadn't gone out to dine with Adam. That wouldn't make any sense, as she didn't have that much free time to casually dine with him.
"Damn! Adam is so shameless, he's practically resorting to blackmail!" Elena was understandably outraged after hearing what happened. But then, thinking about the torn-up check, she couldn't help feeling a bit of regret. "That 10 million wasn't a small sum. Honestly, you should have kept the money at the start and then declined his offer."
Elena could have done that without a doubt, but Martina couldn't.
Martina shook her head. "It's a case of giving a thief an inch, and he takes a yard. I don't want to get too involved with him, so I'd rather not take his money."
She playfully poked Elena's forehead again and wondered why this woman seemed so boneless, practically leaning on her shoulder. Then she continued, "Even though that money was quite a sum, in reality, Benjamin had provided me with more material things before, even more than what Adam offered. Do you really think I'd be tempted?"
Right from the beginning, Martina had no such notion. It was only later on that she got sidetracked, mistakenly thinking she could integrate herself into Benjamin's world because of it. That's when some of those confusing scenes began to play out. But in reality, that wasn't what she truly desired.
Elena had a change of heart once again, realizing that Martina's thought process was constantly shifting, like one act after another.
"Yeah, when it comes to wealth, Benjamin is unrivaled. Honestly, I believe he's treating you quite nicely these days. You two could reconcile. He's quite generous. Adam actually believed he could secure Amy's release with such a small sum of money. Does he truly think we lack principles?"
Martina pressed her lips together. "I don't know what will happen to Amy in the end, but whatever it is, it has nothing to do with me. I believe that there's justice in the world."
With their conversation concluded, they returned to their busy work. Regarding Amy, they had no time to think more.
Adam had another idea. Since the polite persuasion failed, why not resort to force? He was supposed to give up. However, after hearing Gary's suggestion, he decided to do something more.
Thinking about what his grandfather had said, that if all else failed, he could just kidnap Martina, Adam realized that it might not be a bad idea. If he were to actually kidnap Martina, given her personality and courage, she would surely be frightened, and everything that followed would be easier.
The issue was that Adam needed to plan carefully. Benjamin held Martina in such high regard, even going so far as to place Leslie near her.
If Adam wanted to kidnap someone successfully, it would require more than just any random group of people. He needed individuals who were highly skilled. Most importantly, he would have to create a diversion to catch Martina off guard, as simple methods wouldn't work. She had become clever, and straightforward approaches would likely backfire.
This posed a real challenge for Adam. In the time that followed, he continued to brainstorm, but he couldn't come up with a better plan.
"B*tch! I'd like to see how long you can hold out. My sister absolutely cannot be harmed!" Adam talked to himself.
Meanwhile—
Amy had already been temporarily brought into the prison. Although she hadn't been sentenced yet, her current situation wasn't good.
Though her regular diet at home wasn't luxurious, she usually had access to some high-quality food. The ingredients were fresh, and the flavors were delightful, making her mouth water.
Now, her meals barely deserved to be called food. She was served a bowl of plain rice with a side of greens, and that was supposed to be a meal. Her stomach had long been empty, having eaten similar meals for a whole day. She'd rather starve than take another bite.
Frustrated, Amy couldn't help but start shouting at the door. "Who do you think you are to treat me like this? I'm the princess of the Paloma family! I want food! Why aren't you giving me anything to eat?"
Amy's complaints fell flat and irritated the duty officers in the prison.
"I must remind you, Miss Paloma, this is a prison, not your home. What makes you think you can have any food? Moreover, hasn't your meal been delivered to you already? Why aren't you eating? You can't just make a scene here. What's your purpose?"
Amy felt wronged, and tears welled up in her eyes. Unfortunately, those who received strict orders from Benjamin to handle her had no intention of wronging her.
The thing was, She didn't deserve any sympathy.
Despite being in prison for just a night and a morning, Amy was making a fuss like she was being tormented. First, she was thirsty, then hungry, followed by discomfort in her sleep, as if she thought this place was her home.
It was understandable that she knew that her grandfather, brother, and father wouldn't abandon her. She believed that if she endured this imprisonment, her eventual release would be a matter of time, and then she could make Martina pay.
But to her surprise, the prison's conditions were far harsher than she could bear. Accustomed to a life of luxury, she was struggling.
Hearing from the officers, Amy's attitude didn't change. "I'm not eating any of this food you sent. Order me some food from a five-star restaurant right away."
"I want Beef Wellington, Lobster Thermidor, and..."
Amy was even listing her food preferences, truly treating this place like her own home.
The duty officer couldn't help but twitch his mouth in disbelief. It was the first time he had encountered such audacious behavior from a woman, especially someone linked to the prestigious Paloma family. He questioned whether anyone would even recognize her connection to the Paloma family without his disclosure.
"Miss Paloma, I advise you to give up on this idea. It's against the rules, and we can't accommodate your demands. If you don't eat now, I'll have to take the food away, and you will end up starving."
