Chapter 186: Unstoppable
Watching helplessly as Amy was taken away, Adam couldn't resist any longer and quickly pulled out his cell phone, making a call to someone else.
He couldn't stop it now, but that didn't mean he couldn't try to remedy the situation in any other way possible.
"Amy, don't be afraid, I will definitely take you home safe and sound!" Adam thought to himself.
Unfortunately, this approach meant nothing to Benjamin, who had already left with Martina ahead of everyone else. Having achieved what he wanted, other matters naturally became inconsequential to him.
At this point, Adam was completely at a loss, resorting to making phone calls and seeking help as much as he could. Regardless of the outcome, he was at least trying, ensuring that excessive pressure didn't accumulate in his heart.
Unfortunately, at this moment, Amy had already been taken away by the police. Whether she admitted it or not, the consequences were bound to be severe. Because this was a deliberate act orchestrated by Benjamin, it certainly wouldn't be easily resolved, but rather demanded a heavy price.
Even if Adam eventually came up with a solution, it would have to wait for later. For now, it was undoubtedly ineffective.
Actually, no matter what Adam did, it was definitely too late, so there was no point in dwelling on it. Benjamin precisely saw through this, which was why he didn't care about Adam's actions.
However, at this moment, Martina's heart couldn't remain calm, especially when thinking about the harm she had endured before. It was particularly unsettling.
Considering Benjamin's personality, Martina should have been enjoying carefree and indulgent days, free from the current predicament. While all of these circumstances were undeniably linked to Benjamin, his own demeanor was undergoing a gradual transformation as well.
Sitting in the car, Martina's gaze would often land on Benjamin, as if contemplating many questions.
For example, why did Benjamin suddenly say such things? Furthermore, how could he have taken things to this extent?
Was he really not afraid that the relationship between the Walker family and the Paloma family might become uncontrollable?
This was what Martina had always been most concerned about, which was why she initially didn't even want to involve Elena. Who would have thought that Benjamin would voluntarily step in now? This truly exceeded her imagination.
As a result, Benjamin appeared as if nothing was wrong, as if he had long grown accustomed to treating everything this way. Even if Martina had to bear the consequences and pressures, he seemed unfazed.
It's also possible that Benjamin simply didn't regard the Paloma family as a concern, so there was no need to worry about anything. After all, unnecessary worries were just a waste of time. He valued his time, and there was no way he would squander it on these matters.
Benjamin had a strong sixth sense, and he immediately noticed Martina's gaze, somewhat lingering on himself.
At first, Benjamin also didn't want to say anything, because he knew that Martina must not be thinking of anything favorable towards him, and there was a chance it might even dissipate the relationship they had finally built. This wasn't the scenario Benjamin wanted to witness, so he tried his best to refrain from speaking.
However, Martina's gaze was undeniably intense, and despite her efforts to control it, she wasn't doing a very good job.
Perhaps Benjamin didn't want himself to be talking to thin air, or perhaps there was another reason, but whatever it was, he couldn't hold back and finally blurted out, "What are you staring at? Is there something written on my face?"
There definitely wasn't any characters on his face, yet Martina couldn't help but sense a new-found charisma emanating from him, an inner allure that seemed irresistibly unrestrained.
Martina took a deep breath, managing to somewhat ease her emotions, saying, "To be honest, I'm still a little confused. Why did you treat me this way today? Even if you really had no involvement in this matter, I wouldn't blame you."
Martina's gaze appeared truly sincere, reflecting her genuine thoughts.
Because she genuinely couldn't comprehend the reasons behind Benjamin's actions. It couldn't possibly be for no reason at all, especially considering how busy Benjamin usually was.
If it weren't for his own deliberate actions, there's no way this different situation would have occurred.
Martina wanted to figure out what exactly was going on and to make sure of the arrangements for what would come next.
Benjamin seemed to be smiling. The emotions in his eyes were fluctuating, making it hard to figure out what was going on in his mind.
It seemed like he had taken in Martina's words, but responded with questions, "What kind of random thoughts are going through your mind? Isn't this what I should do? You're mine, how could I just stand by and watch someone bully you? I will always keep you safe."
Benjamin had offered such reassurances before, not for the first time. Whenever Martina had heard them in the past, she would merely nod along without attaching much significance. Yet, as Benjamin reiterated them with such genuine earnestness, it rendered her momentarily silent. It felt as though, regardless of her response, she might come across as unjustified.
However, Martina didn't mean it that way. The situation today had already exceeded her imagination. She just wanted to get to the bottom of the truth.
Martina continued to gaze at Benjamin for a while, lost in thought. If it weren't for Benjamin occasionally reacting, she might have kept pondering without end.
"Actually, you don't have to be so good to me. Treating me this way will only bring trouble to both of us," Martina believed she had made her words quite clear. Her intention was to prevent any misunderstandings between her and Benjamin.
Even though she hadn't left now, she had no intention of being like before, following Benjamin around like a shadow. That was never going to happen.
Moreover, the current she had undergone a series of changes. Change was inevitable, after all.
Deep down, Benjamin felt a twinge of pain. He could clearly sense that Martina was deliberately distancing herself. He just wasn't willing to give up and was finding other ways to make an effort.
"Being good to you is my choice. If you truly can't accept it, we can talk about it later," Benjamin explained slowly. "I can adapt myself appropriately, but Martina, you need to understand that our relationship is not that simple to begin with. These actions are also part of my responsibility, so don't worry too much about it."
