Chapter 234: You Deserve to Be Without a Wife
However, perhaps due to the presence of so many people, Jack didn't explicitly express his thoughts. Instead, he went along and asked, "How much longer will it take?"
The stylists replied, "Probably less than half an hour. Miss Martinez has a great natural look, and even with minimal makeup, she already looks fantastic. So, it won't take much time. We just need to pick a suitable dress for later."
Jack nodded in agreement, saying, "Alright, when you're done, we'll get you ready too. Regarding the price, we'll discuss it with the housekeeper later."
Today, Jack had invited a highly professional team, and naturally, the pricing was on the expensive side. Adding two more people for makeovers on short notice would likely have an impact on the cost. But for Jack, it didn't matter at all. After all, it was just an afterthought. He had already mentioned that today, the most important makeovers were for Martina, he and Elizabeth were not important.
Unfortunately, Elizabeth was unaware of Jack's thoughts, or else she would have been even more displeased. Why should she be just an afterthought, while Martina was the main attraction, especially on Jack's birthday?
In less than half an hour, Martina was all set. As for the dress, she chose one that wasn't overly flashy but still elegant—a long white gown with a slight train at the back. It looked exceptionally refined, complementing her wavy hair and delicate features, giving off a very sophisticated and character-like aura.
At this moment, even Elizabeth couldn't help but stare. Martina's looks were undeniably impressive, and it's no wonder even her son was deeply captivated. After all, Martina's beauty was truly outstanding.
However, even with that, Elizabeth was reluctant to admit it. It was just a face, right? Women needed more than just good looks; they needed exceptional inner qualities to conquer everyone's hearts.
Thinking about the big surprise she had prepared later, Elizabeth couldn't help but smile inside. Because right after this, Martina would step down completely. At that point, a Martina with only her looks, which weren't particularly likable, wouldn't be able to compare to her person.
...
In this way, over an hour passed, and Elizabeth's makeover was also complete. In reality, her makeover took a bit more time. Perhaps it was because her looks were not as striking as Martina's.
Moreover, Jack was a man, and his styling didn't take as long, so most of the time was spent on Elizabeth.
Elizabeth didn't think there was anything wrong with this; instead, she enjoyed it all very naturally.
By this time, people had started arriving at the Walker family, and Benjamin was one of them.
Last night, Benjamin had to attend an impromptu city-wide meeting, so he hadn't had time to rush back. He had sent a message to Martina, but due to no signal, the message hadn't gone through at all.
The critical part was that Benjamin hadn't received a reply from Martina, which would have made anyone feel upset if they weren't already accustomed to it.
Nonetheless, these recent developments had somewhat affected him, causing Martina to begin considering him a burden, which, in turn, led to a loss of her initiative.
Thinking of this situation, Benjamin's mood wasn't very cheerful. He had rushed back after much effort, only to find Martina emerging from the bedroom, fully dressed in a stunning gown.
The outfit seemed tailor-made for Martina, complementing her well-proportioned figure, and it was hard to look away once you set eyes on her.
Jack was seated on the couch, having just seen off the stylists. Upon Benjamin's return, he waved to him.
Benjamin didn't need to make any special effort in his appearance. A single glance conveyed the change in him. Today, he had apparently made an effort to tidy up as well. Although he had been on a business trip, he had at least changed into a fresh set of clothes. Coupled with his just-groomed hair, he exuded an air of elegance that perfectly complemented Martina.
Even though he had rushed back in haste, he didn't give off any signs of being in a hurry. Perhaps that was one of his unique traits - his natural good looks. Even in this hastily returned state, there was nothing amiss.
When Benjamin saw Martina, a hint of amazement quickly flickered in his eyes, and that sense of amazement lingered for a long time. Though he didn't say anything out loud, it didn't mean he was oblivious. Especially now, his actions made everything abundantly clear.
Jack deliberately asked, "Young man, how does she look? Is the young lady beautiful?"
To be honest, it seemed like quite an unnecessary question. Wasn't Benjamin's recent behavior clear enough about Martina's beauty? Nevertheless, under Jack's curious gaze, he truthfully responded, "Yes."
Perhaps finding Benjamin's casual attitude a bit off-putting, Jack gave him a disapproving glare and said, "You deserve to be without a wife. You don't even know how to say something nice. No one wants to be with you."
Martina probably hadn't expected Jack's clear disapproval of Benjamin to be so evident. Moreover, it was somewhat inappropriate to do so in front of her and Elizabeth, wasn't it?
Hadn't she noticed that Elizabeth's expression had darkened? It was likely because Elizabeth interpreted Jack's words as some kind of implication, and naturally, she felt uneasy.
Benjamin, feeling a bit awkward, glanced at Martina once more. It seemed he had taken Jack's words to heart and decided to amend his response. "You do look really good. This outfit suits you well."
Perhaps it was Benjamin's lack of eloquence that had caused Martina to have these misunderstandings in the first place. As a result, even if he wanted to change now, it wouldn't be easy.
Elizabeth quickly chimed in, saying, "Being beautiful is not enough. A woman, especially someone who will marry my son, needs more than just looks. If all she has is this face, wouldn't that be a waste?"
