Chapter 211: The Real Reason
Jack wasn't a fool. He began to sense something fishy in these words and looked at Martina with some curiosity.
There was no blame in his demeanor; instead, he asked calmly, "What do you mean by that? What happened during the time I was away? Tell me the truth."
Martina noticed that Benjamin's eyes were hinting at her, but she acted as if she hadn't seen anything and recounted all the recent events, leaving no detail untouched. This included what had happened between her and Amy, disclosing everything because she knew that Jack could easily uncover the truth through his investigations, and there was no need to lie.
Whether she was right or wrong, as long as she told the truth, it should be fine. After all, Jack wasn't the type to unjustly blame others. Regardless of whether he got angry or vented his frustration on her, she intended to reveal all the facts.
As Martina finished recounting her recent experiences, Jack's face had become unusually grim. He had never expected Amy to go to such extremes.
While he didn't favor Amy as much as Martina, he had previously seen her as a somewhat considerate girl. However, who would have thought she would do something so unimaginably terrible?
Given the circumstances, Jack didn't hold Martina responsible. She hadn't committed any wrongdoing. It was Amy and Adam who had crossed the line.
At first, Jack directed his anger towards Benjamin, thinking that Benjamin was simply messing around. However, now he had shifted to a completely different attitude towards Martina.
"Kid, why didn't you tell me about this in advance? If you had, I wouldn't have had to ask this way. You did nothing wrong, and there's no need to apologize," Jack said softly. "Benjamin did well in handling this situation. He finally did something a man should do."
Thinking about the consequences of this matter, Jack sighed, but he was genuinely concerned for Martina. "Even though this may affect our relationship with the Paloma family, it doesn't matter. I can't stand by and watch you being wronged. Even if it affects our relationship with both families, it won't be your fault."
Hearing Jack's words, Martina felt surprised and moved. She had thought that Jack might blame her for this situation. Even if he wasn't very angry, he should have at least reprimanded her, as the current situation with the Paloma family was partly her fault. He had every right to be upset.
To Benjamin's surprise, Jack wasn't angry anymore. Astonished, he thought to himself,"So, was I the only one who had to bear the brunt of the anger from the beginning?"
But as soon as Benjamin realized that Martina wasn't being blamed in any way, he felt relieved. As long as Martina was okay, he didn't mind getting scolded. After all, Jack was his grandfather, and even if he scolded him to no end, it wouldn't matter. He could silently endure it for the greater good.
However, even in this situation, Jack still gave Benjamin a somewhat impatient look and said, "Kid, why didn't you tell me earlier? You were playing dumb. What, did you think I would blame Martina for this?"
Without waiting for Benjamin to respond, Jack had already figured everything out. After all, he had lived for so many years, and if he didn't understand such simple thinking, he would be really disappointing!
"You really underestimate me. I'm not the kind of person who gets angry without reason. It's actually you who's not living up to expectations! What are you so hesitant about? Don't act like this is my fault. Pay more attention next time, or you might receive a slap from me," Jack continued.
At this moment, Benjamin didn't say a word, but he finally felt relieved.
Even Simon and Nathan couldn't help but chuckle. Was their boss just to get scolded?
From beginning to end, Mrs. Martina Walker remained quite good and hadn't suffered any consequences. On the other hand, their boss had once again endured a scolding, which had started to feel somewhat routine.
Now that Jack understood the real situation, he had no intention of further blaming anyone. Those words were simply meant to give himself a way out.
"Martina, if you ever encounter such a situation again, you should tell me or Benjamin. I won't ignore it,"he spoke gently, as if he was giving her advice or comforting her,
While saying this, he intentionally glanced in Benjamin's direction, making his implication quite obvious.
"Even if my own grandson is at fault, I won't let him off easily. You are my granddaughter-in-law, and if anything were to happen to you, I wouldn't spare anyone who harms you."
Seeing Jack's serious expression, it was apparent he wasn't lying but genuinely meant what he said.
At this moment—
Martina couldn't help but be moved, because Benjamin had been truly kind to her, and now even Jack was showing such concern.
Regarding this matter, Martina was actually the only one who was truly an outsider, as Benjamin had never allowed her to get involved from beginning to end.
Now, even Jack had gone to such lengths. How could Martina remain indifferent in her heart?
Martina's voice trembled with a touch of emotion as she glanced deeply at Jack and said, "Thank you. I understand. If something similar happens in the future, I will definitely tell you."
Jack was happy to hear her response. "That's right. That way, I can rest assured!"
