Chapter 185 - Do You Feel a Hint of Guilt in Your Heart?
Martina regretted talking to an idiot.
Seemingly provoked to the extreme by these words, Benjamin no longer held any semblance of courtesy. This time, he left no room for compromise. "Amy, I'll give you two minutes to choose. If you still can't make a decision after two minutes, then I'll make the choice for you."
Hearing these words, Amy trembled once again, placing all her hopes on her older brother. Unfortunately, it had little effect.
Everyone understood one thing very clearly - angering Benjamin would undoubtedly lead to bad consequences. In fact, it would only hasten Amy's own downfall. Right now, she had no better option than to make a quick decision.
Choking back her tears, Amy glanced at Adam, then at Benjamin, adopting an expression of a wronged innocent. "So... do you really want to exterminate me?"
Observing Benjamin's indifferent demeanor, she realized that her attempt to turn the situation around had failed. Nevertheless, she decided to take another risky gamble, hoping that her choice would evoke at least a hint of guilt within Benjamin's heart. Even if it was just a tiny hint, she would consider it a success.
"Well, if that's the case, then I have nothing more to say. Benjamin, please take me to the police station. I'm willing to bear any responsibility," Amy sighed with agony.
At this point, Amy intentionally left herself a way out, revealing a cunning depth that was hard to fathom. If one hadn't witnessed it firsthand, who would believe that these were words coming from a young girl's mouth?
"But I hope you remember, Benjamin, that the reason I did all this was to make you happy. I truly haven't done anything to hurt anyone," Amy continued.
Elena felt sick and tired of Amy's statement; she had seen this kind of hypocritical act so many times. It's just that she didn't expect to witness it again now.
"Martina, did you see that? This is why we didn't see through Amy's true nature before. It's mostly because this woman is just too good at putting on an act."
"She clearly did something wrong, was afraid of being exposed if Benjamin fought back, so she chose to go to the police station. And now she's trying to turn the tables."
"Doesn't this imply that she deliberately slandered someone? How can such a person exist in the world??"
Martina had nothing to say about this. In fact, her main focus was on Benjamin's choice. Honestly, she couldn't imagine that Benjamin would go to such lengths for her.
Even if Benjamin couldn't stand up for her, Martina could understand. It wasn't the first time, after all.
Some things she could handle on her own, but now Benjamin was unhesitatingly standing behind her, supporting her. This truly exceeded her imagination.
Martina glanced at Benjamin, then in Amy's direction, unable to hold back any longer. She changed her words, "Benjamin, you actually don't have to do this for me. There are some things I can handle myself. You don't need to offend the entire Paloma family because of this."
Even though the Paloma family was not as influential as the Walker family, if Benjamin really offended them, it wouldn't be a good thing for him. It might even affect all the effort Benjamin had put in over the years.
Step by step, Martina watched Benjamin approach, fully aware of how difficult this situation was and how many years it took to build the foundation they had now. If all of this were to crumble, she would feel like a criminal.
If Benjamin could still treat her the same way as before, Martina's heart would have been more at ease. After all, there wouldn't be much guilt, maybe just a faint ache that would soon pass. It wasn't the first time anyway, so she should be used to it, right?
But now, Benjamin always stood behind her without any hesitation, offering support time and time again. This really made her uncomfortable. It was one thing to still be by Benjamin's side for now, even if it was a kind of obvious relationship.
But if things were to reach a point where they couldn't continue in the future, the decisions Martina caused Benjamin to make would become an immense burden for her. It would fill her heart with overwhelming guilt.
Benjamin seemed to have instantly grasped Martina's thoughts. Of course, he couldn't let her have her way. Who had time for jokes at a moment like this?
"What's wrong? Do you not trust me?" Benjamin asked softly. "Even if the entire Paloma family is against me, it doesn't matter. I won't allow anyone to bully you. You're mine, and I'm serious."
Boom!
This was probably the first time Benjamin had said such a clear statement in front of Martina.
In an instant, Martina forgot how to react next. What did he mean? Why would Benjamin say that? What did he mean by saying she was his? Didn't he realize that saying something like that could easily be misunderstood?
Because of Benjamin's words, Martina was momentarily stunned, and she remained without any action for quite some time.
At this moment, Benjamin acted swiftly. He had already instructed Simon to call the police.
Soon, footsteps were heard in the corridor again, accompanied by the sounds of police procedure.
"Who called the police? Could you please explain the situation to us so we can proceed?" a police officer asked.
Simon walked forward silently, providing a brief overview of the situation. The police officers' gazes turned uneasy as they looked toward Amy. They probably hadn't anticipated that the reported person would turn out to be a young lady from the Paloma family!
However, after a quick glance in Benjamin's direction, they seemed to calm down.
Offending Benjamin had never resulted in a good outcome. There was no need to worry. They could just handle the matter professionally. After all, as long as Benjamin supported them, who would dare to offend him?
At the same time, they also felt incredibly speechless. How could a young lady take things this far? Did bullying others bring a sense of accomplishment? If not, why would Amy behave this way? What good could come out of it?
Adam did want to resist, but unfortunately, he didn't have a chance. Neither Leslie nor Simon would give him one.
Just as they had mentioned, Amy really needed to take responsibility now. Otherwise, a girl who had been consistently spoiled wouldn't genuinely grasp the seriousness of her deeds, regardless of her location. She wouldn't experience remorse and would persist in making the same errors.
If Amy treated others this way, it might have been tolerated to some extent. However, she absolutely shouldn't have treated Martina like this. This was also why Amy ended up in this situation.
