Chapter 240: The Second Confrontation
Elena scratched the back of her head and touched her hair, saying, "I might have overthought it. As long as everything's okay, I guess I'm just a bit too concerned."
Originally, it was supposed to be an occasion for their elders to come together. However, since each invitation was personalized and only allowed one person to attend, Elena's parents had to stay home, allowing their son and daughter to go together. The main goal was to create more opportunities for their children, which would be beneficial for their future. This was why the Rodríguez family had chosen to send Elena and Alejandro together.
It wasn't a sign of disrespect towards the Walker family. In any place, no one dared to underestimate the Walker family.
Meanwhile, Benjamin and Alejandro found a relatively quiet corner and sat down, attracting minimal attention. In other words, considering their statuses, nobody dared to approach them. To avoid trouble, people preferred to keep their distance. If they wanted to seize an opportunity, they needed to find the right moment.
Alejandro and Benjamin sat there without speaking. At most, each held a glass of wine and silently sipped from it.
Anyone with keen eyes could sense that the atmosphere between the two of them was rather tense. Even though they didn't exchange a single glance, it was clear that they were deliberately trying to suppress each other.
The purpose behind their actions and the benefits they hoped to gain from it remained unknown.
Some bold individuals nearby started discussing, "Isn't that Benjamin and someone from the Rodríguez family? When did they have such a good relationship? I've never heard of any connection between them."
It wasn't just one person making these speculations; most people were thinking along the same lines. They were very curious about the situation. Was it all a coincidence, or was there some secret they didn't know about? After a while, everyone could clearly sense that the temperature around them had significantly cooled down.
Alejandro decided to break the silence, saying, "Mr. Benjamin Walker, you don't have to accompany me like this. I came here today to celebrate Mr. Jack Walker's birthday, and I have no other intentions."
Benjamin's eyes narrowed as he sensed the danger, appearing unhappy with Alejandro's words. The word "displeased" could be used to describe his current mood.
"So you mean if it weren't for today's occasion, you would have come specifically for her?" he said. As for the person mentioned here, they didn't need to be explicit; both knew who they were referring to.
Alejandro nodded without any concealment, "You are right. It's hard not to like someone as exceptional as Miss Martinez."
Even Benjamin, unknowingly, had his heart stirred in certain ways, not to mention Alejandro. It's a shame that Benjamin sometimes found it challenging to keep pace with others, especially in matters of the heart, and he might not know if he could seize the opportunity. Perhaps someone else had already taken the lead, considering that Benjamin had already incurred Martina's dissatisfaction, and she often expressed a desire to leave.
Benjamin was already quite agitated, and at this very moment, an unexpected obstacle had emerged, seemingly set to oppose him. If it were indeed as his grandfather had suggested that someone would take his girlfriend away, Benjamin wouldn't be able to forgive himself.
Their gazes collided at this moment, but it didn't give off that feeling of mutual respect between powerful individuals. It only fueled their discontent with the current situation. Even those closer to them instinctively felt real fear and began to act submissively.
Benjamin's eyes seemed to flash with fire and lightning, yet despite this, it didn't lead to any positive outcomes. Just when it seemed like they might come to blows any second, there was finally a turning point.
Jack appeared suddenly, almost as if he had perfectly timed his entrance. His objective was simple; it was time for him, as the central figure, to make his appearance.
With Jack's arrival, many people finally averted their attention from the confrontation and focused on him.
"Look, that's Mr. Jack Walker. We haven't seen him in ages, have we?"
For some people, it was their first time meeting him, and they were taken aback by his youthful appearance, which defied his age and radiated charisma. It left many of them at a loss for words.
Jack seemed to have become the center of attention at the event. At this moment, Martina and Elena found a discreet corner, in harmony with their intention to avoid excessive social interaction.
Martina didn't particularly enjoy socializing in such settings. She preferred to keep a low profile, and if that wasn't possible, she'd find alternative ways to cope, but she would never easily engage in such situations.
Jack gaze swept around and landed on Martina's figure, and at that moment, the expression in his eyes seemed to soften. It might be because Martina's personal charm remained unchanged no matter when or in what situation.
When Elena saw Jack in his current state, she exclaimed in astonishment, "Oh my goodness, is he Jack? I remember seeing Jack before, and he didn't look like this."
Naturally, that was the case because Jack hadn't dressed up so meticulously before. While he had appeared impressive, it wasn't on the same level of striking appearance. However, his current appearance had dispelled the thoughts and speculations of many people and replaced them with awe.
Martina cast a sidelong glance at Elena. "Time always brings change, especially considering that Jack has been focusing on recuperation lately. He's not the same as he used to be. Now he's mostly recovered, living a decent life, so it's normal for there to be some changes."
But Elena still found it a bit unsettling. These changes weren't just "some changes"; they were unprecedented. It turned out that sometimes it wasn't about being old but being a handsome old man, which was a rarity.
Fortunately, she didn't express her inner thoughts; otherwise, it would lead to endless troubles.
