Chapter 201: Drawing Wisdom from Reality
Amy clearly lacked wisdom from reality; otherwise, she wouldn't utter such words.
And as a result of her words, her wishes were simply unattainable, and she even earned the disgust of others. It was nothing short of bringing shame to the Paloma family. Fortunately, these matters hadn't reached the ears of the Paloma family yet; otherwise, she might have been utterly embarrassed.
Regarding Amy's situation, the police did not withhold any information. They promptly informed Benjamin. Benjamin didn't seem surprised by this development. Considering Amy's personality, it was only natural that she couldn't endure these circumstances.
When Amy initially chose to leave with the police so quickly, it was because she believed that her family would certainly get her out. Unfortunately, the current state of the Paloma family was far from stable. As for rescuing her, it seemed to be a much more complicated matter now.
Everything that Martina had endured, Benjamin would make sure that Amy experienced it as well. Even if they couldn't entirely match, he would find other ways to make Amy thoroughly apprehensive, preferably from deep within her soul.
Considering the current situation, it appeared that Amy had likely hired someone to take action, even if it wasn't for murder, it still involved a legal violation. According to regulations, she would be imprisoned for at least one to three years, depending on the circumstances.
Life in prison was no walk in the park. In less than a day, Amy was already crying and screaming to get out. If she were truly locked up for a year, she would probably lose her mind.
Simon had always admired his boss, but he also knew that the boss was consistent in this regard.
Benjamin was generally ruthless unless it was someone or something he cared deeply about. No matter what the task, he always demanded efficiency.
To complete a certain collaboration, Benjamin didn't hesitate to work through the night, especially when he was in a bad mood. No one dared to defy his temperament and desires. Martina was the only exception.
However, Amy was quite something, failing to grasp the lesson from her experience with Martina. Now, she was reaping what she had sown.
While listening to Simon's report about the situation related to Amy, Benjamin didn't even bother to raise an eyelid. He held his forehead with one hand, looking at his phone's chat interface, as if he were listening to something insignificant.
"Boss, the situation is pretty much like this. The judgment for Amy should come within three days. The Paloma family hasn't taken any action so far. Should we prepare in advance?" Simon asked for further instructions.
Benjamin vaguely shook his head. "No need. Just follow the standard procedure. Let me know when we have the results."
In fact, Benjamin had made his intentions very clear at this point. Unless there were concrete results, there was no need to update him on anything else.
Simon thoughtfully nodded, realizing that the boss was really angry this time. The key was that he also believed the boss's actions were justified, so there wasn't much more to explain.
Just then, Benjamin's phone suddenly rang. The caller ID showed "Grandfather." The caller's identity seemed quite evident.
Benjamin promptly answered the call, and an older voice could be heard on the other end. The person on the other side sounded to be around sixty or seventy years old, but still spirited. It appeared that his recent rest had done him well.
"Grandfather," Benjamin's manner of speaking was gentle when interacting with this individual, who, apart from Martina, was the sole recipient of such special treatment.
Yes, the caller was Benjamin's grandfather, Jack Walker.
"Do you still remember your old grandpa? How long has it been since you called me?" Jack's hearty voice rang out.
The frequency of communication between Benjamin and Jack had been quite high in the past, but recently, there had been an overwhelming amount of business to attend to. In addition to Martina's recent one-month disappearance, he naturally couldn't call during that time, or else he wouldn't be able to keep it from his grandfather.
Now, with Jack calling, Benjamin was sure to get a few complaints, and he had anticipated this in advance.
"It's just been so busy lately, and I was just about to call you, Grandfather," Benjamin replied.
"Give me a break!" Jack's straightforward response could be heard. "What's going on with you, my boy? Do you think I don't know? After all, you're the child I've watched grow up under my nose. Do you think I don't know what's on your mind?"
"Is there a reason you haven't called me in a while? Did you have another fight with Martina?" Jack continued. "I've told you before, girls need to be pampered. Your grandmother and I used to have our conflicts in the early days, but we sorted it out in the end, didn't we? If your grandmother were still around, we'd be the best model couple. But why do you seem to struggle with it? I think you've inherited some less-than-ideal genes from your dad. You're just not good at making girls happy!"
Jack was always like this, mostly complaining or questioning whenever he called Benjamin. It was because he cared a great deal about Martina and wanted her to live a good life, especially hoping for a closer relationship between Martina and Benjamin.
During this time, neither Martina nor Benjamin had called Jack. Frustrated, Jack couldn't resist calling them himself.
Benjamin was left speechless by the retort. It was safe to say that only in the presence of Jack would Benjamin act this way, and the key point was that he wasn't angry at all.
"Grandfather, it's not as bad as you think, it's just that we've been really busy lately," Benjamin replied.
Listening to Benjamin's seemingly perfunctory words, Jack snorted, "I've known you for a long time, and I can see right through you."
"By the way, I am going back home tomorrow, so why don't you and Martina come over to pick me up? We can find a place to have a meal together!" Jack continued. "It's been a long time since I've seen her, and I really miss her."
He spoke as if Martina were Jack's true granddaughter, while Benjamin seemed to be less favored.
Regarding Benjamin's mother, Elizabeth, there's not much to say. Her relationship with Jack was distant, far from being close, and it couldn't be compared to the relationship with Martina. Jack had long known that Elizabeth had ulterior motives.
