Chapter 241: An Imposter?
The banquet proceeded smoothly. People were starting to network and strengthen their relationships. They had come to celebrate Jack's birthday, but they were also looking to secure future benefits.
As the evening approached, they had done what they came for, exchanged gifts, and even indulged in a bit of one-upmanship while doing so.
The banquet was drawing to a close, and some guests had already prepared to leave. Suddenly, they heard a commotion outside. It sounded like an argument.
Jack furrowed his brows, a little irritated. "What's happening outside?"
Elizabeth knew the situation outside best but pretended not to understand. "I don't know. Maybe someone is causing trouble."
Just as she said that, a woman dressed almost identically to Martina appeared in front of the guests. She was accompanied by several burly bodyguards who had their eyes fixed firmly on Martina.
Martina also stared back at the woman, shocked by the striking resemblance. What was going on? Why did this woman look so much like her? Martina felt a hint of astonishment deep within.
At that moment, the woman proactively approached Benjamin, addressing him in a gentle tone, "Benjamin..."
Indeed, Martina used to address Benjamin in a similar tone. It seemed like a way to strengthen their connection. However, she hadn't addressed him like that since their last disagreement when she had decided to leave.
Now, Benjamin was taken aback when he heard this familiar tone, one he hadn't heard in a long time. He stood there, as if doubting his ears and eyes.
In fact, upon closer inspection, one could see that this woman who had suddenly appeared had some differences from Martina. There were disparities in both her temperament and appearance. However, this woman had intentionally styled herself to look almost identical to Martina, which created this illusion.
Benjamin only had a momentary daze, but he quickly realized that this impostor was trying to deceive someone.
Martina, too, was closely observing Benjamin's reaction, as if she wanted to know how he would respond to a woman who looked so much like her.
Even Jack was stunned, saying, "My goodness, what's going on? Who is this woman?"
No one could explain, and those who didn't know thought that this woman might be Martina's twin. Otherwise, how could she look so similar?
At that moment, the impostor gradually approached Benjamin, who happened to be standing behind Martina, and the three of them became very close to each other.
The impostor glared at Martina with a hostile look and said, "You impostor, why do you have the audacity to appear in front of Benjamin? He's clearly mine! Why would you want to compete with me? Even if you have some sinister intentions, you shouldn't be doing this."
This statement was truly perplexing, and the situation itself was baffling. Where had this woman come from? To top it off, she called Martina an impostor.
Just as the true impostor was about to continue pretending, Martina didn't hold back and confronted her.
"Who are you? Am I an impostor? I am who I am, and I've never pretended to be anyone else," Martina retorted firmly.
The woman rolled her eyes at Martina's confident response, then shifted her gaze to Benjamin.
"Benjamin, do you also not believe me? We've shared so many wonderful moments together in the past. You haven't truly forgotten, have you?" she implored. "Since the last time I left, this woman has been keeping me imprisoned, all to intentionally impersonate my identity and stay by your side. Please don't let her deceive you. If you do, we can never be together again."
At another time, Benjamin might have had a trace of doubt, but now he had recognized who the real Martina was. Therefore, he had no reason to be skeptical. No matter how similar this woman appeared, an impostor was an impostor, as she herself admitted. It was impossible to become the real deal.
"Regardless of your identity, I strongly advise you to leave this place immediately, or you'll have to deal with unfavorable outcomes," Benjamin stated firmly, establishing his boundaries. He hoped to avoid any further conflict, especially since it was Jack's birthday, but those who decided to act irresponsibly would have to confront the repercussions.
Who would have known that this woman would even feign a grievance, her eyes turning red as she gazed at Benjamin. "Have you forgotten all the feelings between us? Why do you insist on favoring an impostor? I am the real one."
Martina rolled her eyes, truly not knowing what the situation was and who was behind it. Among the crowd, Elizabeth's expression seemed to undergo some subtle changes, and Martina boldly speculated in her heart, could this woman be the one Elizabeth had found?
Just then, the woman continued her futile pleas, but it had no effect. Benjamin was not buying into her act at all. There was even a trace of impatience in his eyes, as he didn't equate a pretty face with his affection for Martina. The reason he treated Martina that way was that she was Martina, and it had nothing to do with the face.
Unfortunately, it seemed like others just couldn't grasp this concept. They genuinely believed they were not in the wrong, like Elizabeth, for example.
Watching this woman persist, Martina felt increasingly annoyed. She was frustrated, not just by the uncanny resemblance but more so by her continued use of the term "impostor" right in front of her. Who was the real impostor here? Besides, she had always been herself. When had she ever impersonated someone else?
If it were a matter of fact, Martina might have accepted it. But this wasn't the case. She couldn't tolerate it and stared coldly at the woman, retorting, "Regardless of who sent you, please leave from here."
