Chapter 214: Pack My Bags and Leave if You Do This Next Time
Jack didn't even give Martina a chance to speak at this point because he understood that Elizabeth in front of him was no simple person.
Elizabeth was deliberately setting traps for Martina, and no matter what Martina said, it would be easy for others to misunderstand her.
This further intensified Jack's dissatisfaction with Elizabeth. If it weren't for the fact that she was Benjamin's birth mother, he might have lost his patience with her long ago. Honestly, he believed he had shown remarkable restraint with Elizabeth all these years. Despite her numerous behaviors that harmed the family in secret, he had kept his silence. He had done this mainly because she had given birth to such an outstanding son.
However, if Elizabeth intended to continue down this path and not see reason, Jack wouldn't mind taking some measures. After all, he believed he had done more than enough over the years, and there was a limit to how much he could tolerate. He had reached an age where he couldn't keep conceding to a younger family member during his remaining years.
Unfortunately, Elizabeth had no inkling of Jack's thoughts of giving up on her, or she would have regretted her actions deeply.
Meanwhile, Benjamin's expression wasn't very pleasant at the moment. He had witnessed firsthand how Elizabeth had treated the woman in his heart during this period. What's more, Martina had never mentioned this to him before, which explained her frequent gloominess at home and the heartbroken look she often cast his way.
Benjamin had finally come to a clear understanding of the situation, but unfortunately, it seemed like he had realized it a bit too late. Well, it wasn't exactly too late. If he was willing, he might still be able to change Martina's perception. This was one of the reasons he stood resolutely by Martina's side without any doubts or hesitations. He also wanted to mend his relationship with Martina as quickly as possible because he couldn't bear to continue living in this manner.
Jack cast a cold glance at Elizabeth and delivered his final ultimatum, "I suggest you take care of your own affairs. This time, I'll pretend I didn't see anything. But if you do this next time, pack your bags and leave."
He then looked at Benjamin and said, "We have plenty of properties, right? Benjamin, arrange a house far from me for your mother then."
Benjamin nodded. In reality, he didn't have a strong emotional bond with his own mother. His connection with his grandfather was far more significant, as Elizabeth hadn't been very involved in his childhood. Most of his memories were related to his grandfather, which was the main reason he respected and obeyed him.
Jack raised Benjamin, and in return, Benjamin would take care of Jack in his old age. Benjamin wasn't an ungrateful person; it was his disposition to be somewhat aloof and reserved around most people. However, when it came to the person in his heart, he was entirely different.
Elizabeth, now in a state of panic, sat on the ground, unable to hold back any longer. How could things have come to this? Jack had actually spoken this way, indicating that his patience had reached a certain limit.
Was it just because she offended Martina? What exactly was so great about Martina?
Honestly, Elizabeth couldn't understand it at all. Martina was just a girl from the countryside who needed her son to get by. In plain words, she was a gold-digger, only slightly better-looking! And now, she was pretending like she was something special. She even had Jack's favor.
Elizabeth was becoming increasingly puzzled and annoyed. She was Benjamin's biological mother, and she didn't understand why she had to endure this treatment. Why did Martina deserve the favor? What did she have?
No matter how much Elizabeth thought about it, she couldn't make sense of the situation. Instead, she became more and more obsessed with it. In the end, she was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't react for a long time.
At this point, Benjamin and the others had walked away with unhurried steps, leaving Elizabeth behind.
Some things had to be figured out by Elizabeth herself. No matter what others said, it wouldn't make a difference. If she continued to be obstinate, it wouldn't be long before she left this place.
The maid, concerned that something might happen to Elizabeth and not wanting to leave without an explanation, consoled her softly, "Please don't be angry. Some things may not be as one-sided as they seem at first. I believe you will be fine, and Mr. Jack Walker's words were just spoken in anger. Now that he has just returned and seen this situation, it's no wonder he's angry. Things will be different if you make some changes in the future."
Upon hearing the maid's words, Elizabeth let out a cold snort and finally regained control of her thoughts. "What would a mere maid like you understand? How is our family's business any of your concern? If you meddle any further, be careful I'll fire you first."
The maid even regretted asking in the first place. She might as well have acted as if she hadn't seen or heard anything. But if she did that, she might still incur Elizabeth's wrath in the future. There was no way around it. In this situation, the maid was stuck.
At this moment, Jack was sitting on the living room sofa. Benjamin had already arranged to have his room cleaned in advance, the master bedroom on the first floor, which was also the largest room.
Elizabeth had made numerous requests to live in the biggest room before, claiming that her room wasn't big enough, but Benjamin had refused every time. He did this to keep the room available for Jack. She was more of an afterthought.
Should Elizabeth persist in this behavior in the future, Jack might not hesitate to expel her from the household. Even if he didn't physically eject her, he would, at a minimum, demand her absence from his presence. As for the choice of residence, it would be entirely up to Jack, and Benjamin was sure he wouldn't refuse.
Furthermore, Benjamin was genuinely growing tired of Elizabeth now. If it weren't for the ties of blood, he might not have maintained this facade for so long. His continued patience in this matter was, in large part, due to those familial connections, wasn't it?
