Chapter 203: Going with Me to Pick Up My Grandfather Tomorrow
Martina got straight to the point, mainly because she was curious about Benjamin's intentions. She wanted to know what he was up to or if there were any ulterior motives behind his actions. Perhaps he had learned something he shouldn't have known.
Benjamin fell into silence for a moment, but he didn't seem angry. He just expressed his thoughts with a poker face, "My grandfather is coming back tomorrow, and he hopes the two of us can go pick him up. Do you have time?"
At this point, Jack had already sent the flight details and times ahead of time, just waiting to be picked up tomorrow.
Upon hearing Benjamin's words, Martina couldn't help but stare for a moment, even finding it unbelievable. "Are you saying that Jack is coming back?! When did this happen? How come I've never heard of it before?"
Over the past few years, the person in the Walker family with whom Martina had the best relationship was none other than Jack. Apart from this old gentleman, there was no one willing to confide in Martina. Most people felt that Martina had ulterior motives, and their gazes towards her were far from pure. They certainly didn't treat her with much kindness. Instead, they remained fixated on their own preconceived notions, without considering the possibility of misunderstanding her intentions.
It was precisely because Jack was good to Martina that she reciprocated the kindness. This was one of the main reasons why, despite many moments of nearly giving up, she persevered.
With Jack's support, she believed she could ultimately succeed. It was just that the path to success was challenging. But as long as she could overcome it, she believed in a bright future. If it weren't for the recent shock she experienced, she might still be entangled in her own world, solely focused on Benjamin.
Now, hearing that Jack was coming back, the happiest person besides Benjamin was undoubtedly Martina.
As for the least pleased person, it might be Elizabeth. Her relationship with Jack was not good, something even Martina could discern, not to mention others.
Listening to Martina's string of questions, Benjamin smiled and said, "Don't get too excited. It's not time yet. I called you early because I wanted to ask if you're available tomorrow. He hopes we can go together."
Martina wouldn't accommodate Benjamin in other things, but when it came to Jack, it was a different story. "I'm available. I'll take the day off tomorrow, and we can pick him up together."
Just a moment ago, Martina mentioned being busy in the studio with a new project. Now, she was willing to take time off. Even Benjamin could tell that she attached great importance to this matter.
Benjamin chuckled with a touch of irony, not sure if he was feeling jealous or something else. "I didn't notice before that you're so concerned about me," he said.
Martina's lips twitched as she thought, "Can they even be compared? Jack has been incredibly kind to me, but Benjamin wasn't that great to me before. Even if there's some change now, who's to guarantee that it'll last? Maybe things will go back to how they were soon. I won't be fooled so easily."
She spoke confidently, "What's there to compare between you and your grandfather? Are you even considering his feelings? He's always been so good to me, so my excitement is only natural."
Martina's words made Benjamin momentarily at a loss for words, as if he was the unreasonable one.
"Alright, whatever you say is right. It's all up to you," Benjamin gave up the argument and said. "Then it's settled. I'll make time tomorrow, and we can go pick up my grandfather together. If he sees us right when he gets off the plane, he should be really happy."
The two exchanged some pleasantries for a while, mostly with Benjamin doing the talking while Martina listened. She didn't know what else to say; it felt awkward no matter what.
After hanging up the phone, Martina felt her thoughts had become somewhat distracted.
If Jack was coming back, Martina even felt she could stay at home a bit longer. The thought of that person who, although not her biological grandfather, felt even closer than one, filled her with indescribable excitement. It was a genuine emotion with no hint of pretense.
After using the restroom, Elena returned to see that Martina's expression had undergone a transformation, looking quite different from before. She couldn't help but be curious.
"Martina, why the sudden change in expression? Did something happen? If there's anything on your mind, tell me, and we'll figure it out together..." Elena asked a lot of questions.
Regardless of what happened, Elena was always ready to stand by Martina's side, facing challenges together. She seemed used to it by now.
"What's going on in that head of yours? I'm just a little excited, that's all. I can't sit still because I'm happy," Martina shook her head and said, finding Elena's thought process amusing.
Elena's thought process was truly something else, as she blurted out, "Seriously? Are you crushing on Paloma, or how else can you get so excited just because he asked to meet you?"
Martina rolled her eyes dramatically. Was Elena really that scatterbrained? Even if Martina were as blind as a bat, there was no way she could get this excited just because Adam wanted to meet her. Besides, Adam wasn't even worth it.
Adam had always been a bastard. He couldn't hold a candle to Jack, not even in the slightest. At least in Martina's mind, it was the truth. Jack was a unique figure in her life, and no one could ever undermine his place. It was probably this deep emotional connection that made Jack treat Martina so well.
"What's going on in your head?" Martina retorted. "Even if I were desperate, there's no way I'd set my sights on Adam, right?"
