Chapter 202: Jack's Request
If it weren't for Elizabeth's status, Jack might have driven her out without any hesitation. After all, she had given birth to Benjamin, so she had her share of hardships despite not having contributed much.
Jack couldn't take such extreme measures, and sometimes he turned a blind eye to certain matters. As long as it was bearable, as long as Elizabeth didn't go too far, he was willing to tolerate her. However, if she crossed certain boundaries, reconciliation would not come easily.
This was also why, as long as Jack was around, Elizabeth didn't dare to be openly arrogant towards Martina. She knew very well who was the real boss in the house.
Benjamin's expression changed upon hearing that Jack would be returning. He was delighted.
Jack had been away for a while due to health reasons, and his return was a good sign. It might even accelerate the healing of his relationship with Martina.
The possibility excited Benjamin, and he couldn't hide his eagerness. "What time is your flight tomorrow? We'll come to pick you up."
Benjamin's prompt acceptance took even Jack by surprise. "Oh, have you had a change of heart? Usually, when I ask you to pick me up, you find all sorts of excuses. What's going on today? You seem quite willing!"
Simon, who was nearby, could hear their conversation clearly enough to understand what was going on. He couldn't help but mutter to himself. It wasn just because his boss now understood that Martina was the most important. With the goal of enhancing their relationship and winning the heart of the future wife, the boss was determined to put in the effort.
Of course, Simon couldn't directly voice these thoughts and had to keep them in his heart, hoping that Jack would realize it on his own in the future.
Jack wasn't hard on Benjamin, and he was actually quite pleased seeing these changes. "Well, I'm about to hang up the phone. Just remember to bring Martina to pick me up tomorrow."
He seemed a bit anxious and emphasized, "Remember that both of you must come. If you can't bring her together, there's no need for you to come!"
Hearing this, even Benjamin's mouth involuntarily twitched. Those who knew the inside story were aware that he was Jack's true grandson, with genuine blood ties. Those who didn't know might mistake Martina for Jack's granddaughter.
Even Simon, after hearing these words, couldn't help but curl up the corners of his mouth.
"Boss, should we give Mrs. Martina Walker a call in advance? So we can arrange the schedule in advance. She has always had the best relationship with Mr. Jack Walker. Now that he is returning, Mrs. Martina Walker is surely very happy." Because of what Simon had in mind earlier, he began addressing Martina as Mrs. Martina Walker.
When Simon realized it, he had already finished speaking. He quickly covered his mouth and looked apologetic at Benjamin. "Boss, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to, I just... just..."
Simon struggled for a while, but he couldn't come up with a reasonable explanation. However, it seemed that Benjamin wasn't angry, and he actually looked somewhat satisfied. He glanced at Simon and asked, "What did you just call her?"
The "her" in Benjamin's question was pretty obvious, even without further explanation. Simon quickly understood, perhaps sensing that Benjamin wasn't too angry at the moment. He plucked up the courage to say it again.
"I called her Mrs. Martina Walker... even though you two aren't married yet, I think it's just a matter of time, so I thought I'd get used to the title in advance." Simon came up with a very fitting excuse for himself, one that left no room for argument.
The key was that Benjamin had never intended to argue in the first place. He couldn't help but smile, and he even did something unprecedented – he patted Simon on the shoulder and said, "Well, that's a good name. Let's stick with it in the future."
Simon: "???"
Later, Simon thought it over and figured that this was probably what the boss truly felt. The boss had truly awakened.
As long as he could see the boss doing well, that was enough. Nothing else mattered. He couldn't help but feel happy.
At this point, Benjamin also had some thoughts of his own, just like Simon had mentioned. Some things needed to be discussed in advance to plan them better. What if Martina had other plans for tomorrow?
He pondered for a moment, and then made a decision. He took out his phone, as if he had found a reason, and proactively called Martina. His expression and gaze revealed his anticipation for this call, but unfortunately, Martina couldn't see it due to the phone call. Otherwise, she would surely be able to see through what Benjamin's true feelings were at the moment.
The phone took a while to connect, and Martina finally answered, "Hey, what's up? Why are you calling me at this hour? I haven't even finished work yet." From her voice, it seemed like she was sitting at the computer, typing away. She casually held the phone to her ear while her hands remained busy with things on the computer. She appeared to be quite engrossed in her work.
Martina initially thought that the reason Benjamin called was to urge her to finish work quickly. But it was Benjamin who said he wanted to give her freedom, and now he wanted her to go back quickly. What was this guy up to?
But as Benjamin responded next, Martina gradually understood that she had overthought things. It turned out that Benjamin didn't have those thoughts.
"What are you up to?" Hearing Benjamin's unique, deep, and magnetic voice, Martina did have a momentary lapse, but she quickly snapped out of it. She even felt annoyed with herself for getting distracted and acting a bit starstruck, but this was the reality she couldn't deny.
"I'm drawing. The studio got some new projects these past few days, so I've been pretty busy. So, why did you call me now? It can't just be to ask what I'm doing, right? I don't think you're that idle."
