Chapter 194: Want to Meet? No Time!
In Martina's perspective, Adam's sudden phone call was definitely not for any good intentions. It's no wonder she reacted this way – who knew what that guy was up to? It's always better to be cautious. After all, she and Adam didn't have much to discuss, and even if they did, it wouldn't be a pleasant conversation.
Considering his purpose, Adam had to suppress his angers he spoke, "I'm now at a café near your studio. Come and see me." His tone carried a certain audacity, resembling more of an order than a request.
Martina found Adam's bizarre self-confidence amusing. She gave a cold laugh and said, "Why would I want to see you? Do you think I'm crazy?"
She glanced around to ensure there was no one nearby and retorted, "If you're sick, go find a mental hospital and get yourself treated. Don't act crazy in front of me."
Adam turned silent.
Martina had always been polite in her speech before and had never acted this way. It seemed like she had gone a bit off the rails ever since her last departure. Did that mean she no longer cared about anyone in the world?
Although Adam was pissed off, he had to continue suppressing his temper. After all, he had a legitimate reason for being there.
If he messed up this matter, there would be no chance of smoothly getting Amy out of the police station. With time passing bit by bit, it wasn't a good thing for Amy. If this issue wasn't resolved quickly, who knew what the final judgment would be?
With these thoughts in mind, Adam's voice took on an odd tone. "Martinez, don't push your luck. I'm here for a legitimate reason, and don't worry, I won't do anything to you. Just get over here!"
Considering Adam's status and position, determining the location of Martina's studio wasn't particularly challenging. As for why he had come here, Martina could make a reasonable guess. It was undoubtedly related to Amy. However, she didn't anticipate that Adam would carry himself in such a manner. Had he entirely disregarded his dignity?
Martina refused without a second thought, "I don't have time right now. You can wait if you want. Who knows, if I'm in a good mood one day, I might meet you out of kindness."
Adam was getting increasingly angry, "Kindness? Do you not know my identity? I have women wanting to see me every day. I can't just hang around here waiting for you!"
Martina snorted, "Since you don't have time to wait, then go back. There's no need to bother me."
Now, Martina had complete control over Adam. At this moment, Adam found himself in a dilemma where he couldn't afford to get angry but also couldn't remain idle. It felt like his frustration was about to reach its limit. But when he thought about what his grandfather had said, he had to continue enduring it. His face seemed to be twisting with frustration.
"Martinez, well, I mean Miss Martinez, I came to see you today with genuine sincerity. I believe you can sense it. Is it too much to ask for just one meeting? Have you become such a timid coward?"
Martina didn't even acknowledge Adam's words, maintaining a blank expression. It appeared she was genuinely rendered speechless by Adam's thought.
"Well, I have something to ask you. Even though your relationship with Benjamin is better than mine, why did you actively seek me out? You think that trying to find Benjamin would be useless, huh?"
Adam had always considered Martina a naïve country bumpkin who wasn't worth a second glance. However, their recent interactions had shown him that she wasn't like that at all. Instead, she repeatedly surprised and amazed him. Now even her way of speaking was unique, not leaving any room for retorts. If this had been earlier, he would have lost his temper and might have made her pay a price. But the tables had turned, and if he dared to act that way now, he would surely pay the price for it.
"What exactly will it take for you to meet me? I came here today with complete sincerity. You don't want to make this situation too embarrassing, do you?"
Adam asked, his tightly clenched fist revealing the palpable intensity of his fury even through the phone. "Regardless of whether you and Benjamin will be together or not, there are still some connections between me and Benjamin. Don't you think it's awkward?"
Martina rolled her eyes in response this time, not even bothering to speak. She simply hung up the phone and left Adam speechless.
Had Martinez gone crazy? She dared to hang up on his call?
"Bitch!" Adam cursed, "You think you're so special, huh? I'll make sure you learn a lesson! I would have killed you long ago if you were not useful to me!"
After saying this, he called Martina again. The call was not answered. But he persisted, perhaps even more persistently than he had ever pursued a girl. It wasn't until the approximately tenth call that Martina finally answered. At the moment, she was making herself a cup of tea in the break room, hoping to alleviate her somewhat hazy and confused state of mind.
Martina wedged her phone between her neck and ear, both hands busy with making tea, giving her an unexpectedly graceful appearance. "Adam, just give up. You won't get what you want even if you meet me."
Adam seethed, "No matter what, we have to meet at least once. I've already said, I won't harm you in any way. If you dare to come, I will definitely make it worth your while."
Perhaps due to the novelty of seeing Adam placing himself so humbly for the first time, Martina's interest gradually piqued. She genuinely wanted to see how far this guy could go. She suspected he'd give up on the act after a few sentences.
After pondering in her mind for a moment, Martina responded slowly, "Since you insist on seeing me, then let me see your sincerity. Here's the deal: you wait there for me, and I'll go whenever I have the time."
Adam asked, "So when will you have the time? You can't expect me to wait indefinitely, can you?"
