Chapter 218: The Subject of Mockery
In the past, Jack would have intervened and done everything to help his grandson quickly chase a girl. After all, it would be quite embarrassing if his own grandson didn't know how to chase a girl, and he'd become the subject of mockery. But now, Jack couldn't possibly do that.
Previously, Benjamin had a haughty attitude, as if he looked down on Martina. However, now he had finally realized the need to be more attentive. This situation was a result of his own indulgence and neglect, and given that, he had no reason to continue to micromanage things. He could simply act as if he hadn't seen anything.
Jack wouldn't completely ignore everything, but he couldn't be as overt as before. He would only secretly support them and believed that these two lovebirds should be left to their own devices. This approach might help their relationship become purer and hasten their union.
Jack's plan seemed good, and maybe by stepping back, he could achieve his desired outcome. With these thoughts in mind, he shook his head, picked up a magazine from the side, and began to read with great interest.
"I think we should just watch how things unfold. Remember to keep a close eye on my grandson and my granddaughter-in-law," he added.
Nathan wondered if, in the future, should Benjamin and Martina have a quarrel, Jack would promptly kick Benjamin out because, in Jack's eyes, Benjamin was not as important as Martina.
Anyway, it's best to follow Jack's intentions. Besides, at the moment, Benjamin and Martina's relationship was still reasonable, even with a slight deviation, but that wasn't crucial. As long as the final outcome was good, Nathan knew that too much interference in matters of love could lead to detrimental results, potentially backfiring.
Poor Benjamin, at this point, had no inkling that his own grandfather had already given up on him. Perhaps it was due to his lack of assertiveness. Indeed, a man who focused solely on his work and neglected his future wife was quite tragic, at least in Jack's eyes.
In the studio.
Martina had been busy for a half day, not even taking the time to drink water, completely absorbed in her work, drawing and sketching. Despite the seemingly mundane task, she found it engaging, without a hint of impatience.
On the other hand, Elena was feeling a bit fatigued. She leaned back and stretched comfortably, her hands behind her head.
After observing Martina sitting there wearing her blue light-blocking glasses for a while, Elena became a little concerned.
She suggested, "Martina, why don't you take a break? The workload isn't so pressing, and we still have at least a month for the upcoming projects."
Each order came with an estimated timeframe, and as long as they met that without exceeding it, there was no need to rush.
Martina glanced at Elena and said, "I took a day off yesterday, so today I need to make up for it. I'm not tired right now. Let's finish a couple more designs. Getting them done early will make our clients happy, and that, in turn, will make me happy."
Elena propped her chin in her hands and stared at Martina like a fascinated observer, her expression beamed with pride.
She flattered, "My bestie's skills in this field are impressive!"
"By the way, how did yesterday go for you guys? Did Jack notice any changes between you and Benjamin? I remember he was quite the formidable figure in his youth, almost impossible to deal with. Could it be that you two can't hide anything from him?"
To be honest, Martina wasn't entirely sure what was going on in Jack's mind.
"Probably not, I don't think he noticed. Yesterday, Jack didn't inquire much about the changes between Benjamin and me. He was more focused on other matters," Martina replied, taking off her glasses and massaging her slightly sore temples.
Elena's eyes instantly lit up, shining like a 200-watt light bulb. She exclaimed, "Really? What did you guys reveal this time? Tell me quickly; I'm genuinely curious."
Over the next few minutes, Martina provided a general overview of the situation without going into too much detail but making it clear that it couldn't be ignored.
When she finished speaking, Elena stood there, taking her time to react. "Wow, Jack is really an old master. He just got back and immediately confronted Benjamin. This is unprecedented! I guess only he has the guts to do this to Benjamin. The key is that he isn't worried about retaliation. In fact, Benjamin seems to accept it willingly."
Upon careful consideration, Martina realized that Elena was absolutely right. Only someone like Jack, with his unique position and relationship, could confidently confront Benjamin in this way. Besides, Benjamin probably couldn't even get angry in this situation.
Elena couldn't help but laugh, "I'm even a little bit happy just thinking about it. I reckon that Amy Paloma will be over, and neither the Paloma family nor anyone else can help her anymore. Now, even Jack is willing to support you. It's really amazing!"
She continued, "I can even imagine that if you do marry Benjamin in the future, he won't dare to do anything to you with Jack backing you up. Instead, he'll silently treat you like a little princess."
Martina's thoughts paused, and her eyes underwent a sudden change. Even her heart became stronger, and her heartbeat quickened.
