Chapter 207: Unexpected Gains
Martina wore a puzzled look.
Even though she knew that Benjamin had changed a lot compared to before, hearing him say this made her feel uncomfortable.
What did this guy mean? Was he joking? In front of so many people, he shamelessly said, "We're in that kind of relationship, after all." This was just a huge misunderstanding.
Martina's lips twitched a bit, and she shot Benjamin a deep glare.
However, she didn't have a better way to clarify because it seemed that Benjamin had already planned everything out. Even if she wanted to refute it, there was no opportunity, and, more importantly, nobody would believe her.
"Just stop your nonsense; I can't be bothered with you!" Martina left these words and quickly averted her gaze. She intentionally created more distance between herself and Benjamin.
Benjamin noticed all of this and his smile became even more pronounced.
Although Martina still seemed resistant to his proximity, at least she no longer appeared so disgusted. This was something he could clearly feel.
Simon, standing behind them, silently shook his head. He had no idea what was going on in his boss's mind. Did he possess masochistic inclinations? Why couldn't he approach things gradually?
Why did the boss say something like that, even though he knew it would anger Miss Martinez? Did the boss have a special method for pursuing women, or had he simply given up entirely?
Unfortunately, Simon couldn't make heads or tails of it. No matter how long he thought about it, the result remained the same.
As the three of them were lost in their thoughts, they finally saw two figures coming from the exit. An old man in a white martial arts outfit led the way, followed by a slightly younger-looking assistant-like man.
The appearance of these two instantly drew the attention of Martina and Benjamin. Martina waved excitedly in their direction and said, "Jack, we're here!"
Upon hearing Martina's clear and somewhat eager voice, Jack turned his gaze in their direction and indeed saw the figures of Martina and Benjamin.
By observing their attire for the day, one could easily mistake them for a couple due to their matching color scheme. Martina donned a simple black dress adorned with a sizable bow, adding a distinct touch to her outfit. On the other hand, Benjamin sported a suit that deviated from his usual style, possessing a more casual and unique design. It complemented him exceptionally well, given his great physique
Their well-proportioned bodies made even the simplest or most rugged clothing look chic on them. They could probably wear a sack, and it would still exude the same effect.
Jack couldn't hide the light in his eyes as he looked at Martina and Benjamin. It seemed that some unexpected things had happened between them in the time he was away.
In fact, Jack had been meddling in their relationship all along. Though there had been some changes and gains between the two of them, the progress had been somewhat limited.
Later on, with Jack's health deteriorating, he was forced to leave and focus on recuperation. Little did he know that fate would work in mysterious ways, and they would achieve such results. It was truly astonishing for Jack.
In his heart, this had always been something he yearned for but couldn't accomplish. Now that they had achieved it almost by accident, he felt relieved and happy.
His gaze scanned over Benjamin and Martina, then spoke with a cheerful tone, "I can see that your relationship has been good lately. I was wondering if, without me around, there would be no one to guide and protect you."
Following behind Jack was his assistant, who had been with him for many years. Their bond was even stronger than the bond between the butler and him.
The assistant's name was Nathan Loop, someone Jack trusted deeply. He had spent a considerable amount of time with Jack outside, resting and recuperating. This was his first return from that period.
"Great to see you, Mr. Benjamin Walker and Mrs. Martina Walker," Nathan politely greeted, which led to a subtle change in Benjamin's gaze, even if his facial expression remained composed. However, his tone of voice was notably different from his usual demeanor.
"Grandfather, are you planning to leave again this time?" Benjamin inquired.
Jack shook his head and, naturally, waved for Martina to come over. "Kid, come here. It's been quite a long time since we last met. I have missed you so much."
Martina approached without overthinking, giving Jack a hug.
Meanwhile, Benjamin found himself somewhat isolated, as if he were an unnecessary presence. Even Jack didn't spare him a glance.
If Benjamin was not his biological grandson, Jack might have ignored him entirely.
"Jack, how's your health lately? I got really scared the last time you fell ill. How are you feeling now?" Martina disregarded Benjamin's presence and wholeheartedly inquired about Jack's condition.
Seeing the two engaged in a lively conversation, even Simon and Nathan felt awkward on behalf of Benjamin.
Jack couldn't stop smiling. "Well, well, my health is perfectly fine now. I don't plan to leave again this time. After all, I'm getting up there in age, and I can't keep staying apart from you younger folks. Who knows when we'll meet again?"
Martina immediately stopped him, disapprovingly. "No, no, you can't say that. Your health is excellent, and you're going to live a long and healthy life."
Jack became even happier, his face lighting up with a genuine smile. Even his biological grandchildren seemed to pale in comparison to Martina in his eyes.
