Chapter 224: Get Her a Set of Utensils
After understanding these things, Jack felt an even stronger desire to make amends for something, even if it was for the sake of his grandson.
"Gary, let me tell you, if our relationship is affected by an outsider, then it's my problem. But that young lady, to me, is not an outsider," Jack said grimly. "Martina is my chosen granddaughter-in-law. Apart from her, no one else can marry my grandson, not even your granddaughter!"
After saying this, Jack lost his patience completely. He gave Nathan a meaningful look, then left the place without looking back. He didn't care about Gary's and Adam's reactions at all.
It wasn't until a long time after Jack had left that the two men, the grandfather and the grandson, finally reacted.
Gary's face turned completely dark. Even now, he didn't believe he was in the wrong. There must still be a way to turn this situation around, and he had to find a solution.
...
The more Jack thought about it, the angrier he became. His blood pressure was about to skyrocket. If it weren't for Nathan offering advice and medication in the background, there might have been real health problems.
Nathan quietly asked from behind, "Mr. Jack Walker, don't get angry. Where should we go now? Should we head home directly or?"
Jack thought for a moment, and then managed to control his emotions. His face finally returned to its usual amiable demeanor.
"Let's go home. I need to prepare for what's coming. I never expected that people outside would view my granddaughter-in-law in such a way," he answered. "It looks like I must do something to let them know that Martina is the only granddaughter-in-law I recognize."
...
Soon, it was evening, and Martina was unaware of what had happened at Jack's place. After finishing work, she returned home.
During this time, she hadn't been in contact with Benjamin because she had been very busy and hadn't even thought about him.
Ironically, Benjamin sent Martina a message before returning home. Unfortunately, Martina only noticed it when she reached her doorstep and didn't bother to reply.
Upon arriving home, she saw that Benjamin and Jack had already taken their seats in the dining room, but neither had touched their food.
Elizabeth hadn't appeared yet, perhaps because she felt awkward after what happened earlier. She had actually gone a whole day without eating. Did her stomach not know the feeling of hunger?
Anyway, Martina didn't want to be concerned about other people's feelings at the moment. She just wanted to eat and drink to her heart's content.
When the two men saw Martina's figure, they immediately waved her over in their own unique way. Jack said, "We missed you so much, come over, kid."
Martina nodded and quickened her pace to sit beside Jack, asking, "It's just been a day, did you really miss me that much?"
Jack nodded with a sincere expression, as if he was worried that Martina might not believe him. "Of course, you're cherished by us. Without you, there wouldn't be my stinky boy, who's now such an influential figure. You're a hero in our family," Jack said.
Thinking about their past experiences, Martina couldn't help but feel a bit bitter. She said, "I haven't really done much. I've just done what I could. You don't need to mention it."
Benjamin pressed his lips together, likely reflecting on their past experiences and feeling even worse about himself. How could he not have realized how inadequate his actions were back then, which led to Martina repeatedly becoming hopeless and wanting to leave him?
Now, he wanted to make amends, but making amends was no easy task. Unfortunately, there was no cure for regret, and no matter how much he regretted his actions, he couldn't change the situation. All he could do was try to make amends and make Martina fall in love with him again.
Jack kicked Benjamin under the table. "You good-for-nothing boy! Your wife is back, and you don't even think to get her a set of utensils?"
Benjamin immediately stood up and seemed ready to act, but Martina quickly declined.
Come on, if Benjamin actually did that, wouldn't she be showered with others' contempt?
Martina quickened her steps and arrived in the kitchen, saying, "I'll do it myself. You don't have to do this."
At this moment, Elizabeth, who hadn't eaten all day, finally couldn't bear it any longer. Not eating for a day was indeed very uncomfortable, and when had she ever experienced such humiliation?
Seeing the table filled with delicious ingredients, including two dishes she particularly liked, her hunger overcame any other feelings. She quickly approached the dining table and looked towards Jack with an apologetic expression. "Jack, I'm really sorry. I know I was wrong."
Jack didn't want to actually see anything happen to Elizabeth and waved his hand, saying, "Well, sit down and eat. If you ever want to go on a hunger strike over these things again, I won't care even if you starve to death."
Elizabeth nodded awkwardly, took a seat, and intentionally sat a bit apart from the others, probably because she was still feeling uncomfortable.
Martina then brought over the utensils. Seeing Elizabeth's actions, she helped by fetching two more sets of utensils. It was just a minor act of kindness, something she did for the sake of Jack.
The more Jack looked at Martina, the more pleased he became. What a kind girl!
Jack said with his deep voice, , "Alright, now that everyone's here, let's eat. I also have something to say later."
Silently, they all sat around the table, each harboring different thoughts, yet nobody revealed them.
Martina, upon seeing her favorite dishes on the table, couldn't help but feel her appetite surge. She knew that the chefs Benjamin usually hired were incredibly skilled. Leaving aside other factors, their culinary expertise was impressive, and they managed to create unique dishes every day.
Occasionally, she couldn't help but question the mental toll on the head chefs. Just the daily contemplation of these dishes might have drained a good chunk of their brainpower.
