Preparation of Parenthood
After some days, the news of the pregnancy was in order, and with each moment passing Louis and Victoria embraced parenthood. Shock that had kept them up at night had worn off, giving way to excitement still laced with nerves and uncertainty. They had been through so much together, but this was a family entirely new.
Standing in the middle of the spare bedroom at the Sebastian estate, Louis placed his hands on his hips, turning to look around the room. It had sat empty for years, but now it was destined to become the nursery for their baby. Louis couldn't help but grin with thoughts of what was in store: a crib, soft pastel colors, and the tiny clothes that would line this room soon enough.
"I was thinking maybe we should paint the walls a light green," Victoria said, walking in behind him with a stack of color samples in her hands. "It's neutral but still warm."
Louis turned to her; his smile broadened at the excitement in her eyes. "Light green sounds perfect," he agreed, stepping toward her. "Though I have to admit, I never thought I'd be the kind of guy that got excited about paint colors."
Victoria chuckled low in her throat, her hand resting on her still-flat stomach. "Neither did I, truthfully. And yet, here we are, choosing colors for our baby's room. I still cannot quite believe it is happening."
Louis wrapped his arms around her from behind, setting his chin on her shoulder as they both looked around the room. "It's happening, alright," he said, his voice so filled with heat. "Our baby is coming, and we're gonna give 'em everything. A better life than we ever had."
Victoria's smile softened, and she leaned back into him, savoring the warmth of his embrace. "I was so scared, Louis," she whispered, catching her breath. "When we first found out... I didn't know if we could handle this. But now, I'm starting to feel like maybe. Maybe this is exactly what we needed."
Louis pressed a kiss to her cheek, his heart full. "It's more than what we needed. It's what we deserve. After everything, we deserve this happiness."
They stood in silence for a moment, both of them lost in their thoughts before Victoria turned in his arms to face him. "Have you thought about names?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Louis chuckled, raising an eyebrow. "Already? We've still got months to go."
"Hey, I'm just curious," Victoria teased, poking him in the chest. "I want to know what you're thinking."
Louis faked being in thought for a moment, tapping his chin as if he were deep in thought. "Well, if it's a boy, how about... Louis Jr.? "
Victoria burst out laughing, shaking her head. "No."
"What? Louis is a great name!" he protested, playfully grinning.
"It's a great name for you," Victoria said, wiping away a tear of laughter. "But our son, we have a son-needs his name."
"Fair enough," Louis conceded, still grinning. "Okay, so maybe not Louis Jr. What about... Benjamin?"
Victoria tilted her head, considering it. "Benjamin Sebastian. Hmm. I like it."
Louis's smile broadened. "Yeah? Well, we can make a note of it. And if it's a girl..."
He trailed off, watching Victoria's face with care. "If it's a girl, I think we should name her after your mother," he said quietly.
Victoria's breath caught, her eyes welling as she gazed at him. "Margaret?"
Louis nodded, his voice soft. "She has been through so much, and she has stood by you through everything. I feel this would be a great way to honor her."
Victoria's hand flew to her mouth as a tear escaped down her cheek. "Louis, that's... that's perfect," she whispered, her heart swelling with so much love for him. "She would be so honored."
Louis wiped away her tears; his eyes were soft. "It feels right, doesn't it?"
Victoria nodded, wordless as the emotion overwhelmed her. She leaned into him, pressing a soft kiss against his lips, her gratitude and love for him pouring out in that simple gesture.
The next several weeks were a frenzy of preparation: everything from baby-proofing the estate to doctor's appointments and all the items they would need, with Claire, Louis's indispensable assistant, acting as the coordinator. It couldn't be more surreal-after all the misgivings, they were finally preparing a future full of hope.
One afternoon, while Victoria was out with her mother, Louis found himself alone in the nursery, assembling the crib they had picked out. He fumbled with the screws, his brow furrowed in concentration as he tried to make sense of it all from the instruction manual.
"Alright, Sebastian, you can build a business empire, but you can't figure out how to put a crib together?" he muttered to himself with a laugh, shaking his head.
That was when he heard the sound of footsteps behind him. Turning, he saw Margaret, Victoria's mother, standing in the doorway, watching him with a smile.
"You look like you could use some help," Margaret said, stepping into the room.
Louis chuckled, setting down the screwdriver. "I won't lie, this is a lot harder than it looks."
There was a soft chuckle escaping from Margaret's throat as she drew even closer to him. "You're doing just fine," she said, smiling. "It's sweet, seeing you like this excited to become a father."
Louis's smile softened, and he looked toward the half-assembled crib. "I am excited," he acknowledged. "I never thought I would ever be here, honestly. After everything, well, I didn't think I deserved this. This happiness. But with the baby on the way, I feel like I've been given a second chance."
Margaret's eyes softened with understanding, and she reached a hand out to put on his shoulder. "You deserve this, Louis. You and Victoria both. And you've both earned every bit of happiness that's coming your way."
Louis nodded, his heart full as he looked back toward the crib. "I just want to be a good father," he said quietly. "I want to give our child everything I never had."
"You will," Margaret said softly. "I can already see it in the way you love Victoria. You'll be such a great father, Louis."
Louis looked up to her, his eyes shining with emotion. "Thank you, Margaret. That means much, coming from you."
Margaret smiled, patting his shoulder before stepping back. "Now, let's get this crib put together, shall we?"
When Victoria returned home that evening, the crib was fully assembled and the nursery area was beginning to come together.
She stepped into the room, her eyes lighting up as she took in what Louis and her mother had managed.
"Wow," she whispered, her hands falling instinctively onto her stomach as she took it all in. "It's happening, isn't it?"
Louis wrapped an arm around her waist, pressing a kiss against her temple. "It is. Our baby's going to have the best room in the world."
Victoria leaned into him, her heart full as they stood together in the nursery. "I can't wait," she whispered.
Neither could Louis. For the first time in what seemed like an eternity, the future was bright, and he knew that deep within his heart, they were ready for whatever came their way.
