The Breaking Point
The elevator ride back to her hospital room felt very long. Victoria's mind was racing after the bad meeting. The fight between Louis and Alex had gotten very intense, and she felt stuck, pulled in two different directions.
She could still see the pain in Louis's eyes when he accused Alex of trying to take her away. This was not just about work anymore; it was personal. Deep down, Victoria knew Louis's anger came from fear-fear of losing her.
But that fear felt like a heavyweight. Louis's love felt like a trap, tightening around her with every new problem. Then there was Alex-calm and steady, offering her a way out of the chaos.
When the elevator doors opened, she stepped into the quiet hallway, her footsteps soft as she walked to her room. The tension was still thick in the air, but when she opened the door, Alex was waiting for her by the window.
"Hey," Alex said softly, turning to her. "I just wanted to check on you after... everything."
Victoria nodded, closing the door and walking closer. "It's been a lot," she said, her voice tired. "I don't know how to handle all of this."
Alex moved closer, calm and reassuring. "You don't have to deal with it all right now. I know it's a lot to take in."
Victoria sighed, leaning against the wall and twisting her blouse nervously. "Louis is so angry. I get why, but I don't know how to fix things between us."
Alex's expression softened as he stepped toward her, speaking quietly. "Maybe it's not about fixing things, Victoria. Maybe it's about finding what makes you happy."
Victoria looked at him, feeling uncertain. "What if I don't know what makes me happy?"
Alex took another step closer, his eyes searching hers. "You deserve peace. A life where you don't have to fight all the time. I've seen you struggle, and I just want to help."
Victoria felt a tightness in her chest. He was offering her what she thought she wanted-stability and a way out of the drama with the Sebastians. But part of her still couldn't let go of Louis.
"I appreciate everything, Alex," she said softly, her voice shaking. "But it's not that simple."
"It could be," Alex whispered gently, reaching out to touch her arm.
Victoria froze as he moved closer, his hand on her shoulder. She could feel the tension between them, and even though her heart raced, guilt washed over her. She wasn't ready for this. Not now. Not when things with Louis were so fragile.
Alex leaned in, their faces inches apart. His breath was warm, and for a moment, she leaned in too, confused.
But just as his lips were about to touch hers, Victoria pulled away sharply, her heart racing.
"Alex, no," she whispered, stepping back, trembling. "I can't do this."
Alex looked surprised and took a step back, raising his hands in apology. "I'm sorry, Victoria. I didn't mean to... I just thought-"
"I know," she interrupted, her voice shaky as she tried to steady herself. "But this isn't right. I'm still with Louis. I can't do this to him."
Alex ran a hand through his hair, looking pained but understanding. "I didn't mean to push you. I care about you, Victoria. I want to be there for you however you need."
Victoria's heart ached as she looked at him. She knew Alex cared for her, but she couldn't ignore her loyalty to Louis, even if their relationship was strained.
"I know you do," she said softly. "But I'm still trying to figure out what's best for me. Right now, I'm not ready to decide."
Alex nodded, stepping back to give her space. "I understand. Just know that whatever you choose, I'll support you."
Victoria bit her lip, feeling guilty and confused. She appreciated Alex's patience, but she couldn't forget what almost happened. The thought of it made her stomach twist.
"I think I need some time alone," she said quietly, turning away from him.
Alex gave her a small, sad smile. "Of course. I'll be here if you need me."
He quietly left the room, leaving Victoria alone with her thoughts.
As the door shut, Victoria fell onto the bed, covering her face with her hands. Everything felt too heavy-her loyalty to Louis, her growing feelings for Alex, and the pressure to choose between them. She felt stuck, unable to find peace.
Pulling her knees to her chest, Victoria looked out the window at the twinkling city lights. She loved Louis, but their relationship felt like a war, filled with jealousy and distrust. With Alex offering her a way out, she felt more confused than ever.
Her phone buzzed, and she reached for it, feeling a sinking feeling when she saw Louis's name.
"I'm sorry about earlier. I know I've been hard to deal with. I'll come by tomorrow."
Victoria's heart tightened reading his message. Louis's apology felt real-she knew he was trying, but the hurt was already there. She didn't know if they could return to how things used to be.
With shaking hands, she put the phone down without responding. She needed time to think, to sort out her feelings, to decide what she wanted. But with Alex in one corner and Louis in the other, she wasn't sure if time would be enough to help any of them.
As she lay back on the bed, staring at the ceiling, Victoria realized that no matter what choice she made, someone would get hurt.
And she didn't know if she was strong enough to decide.
