Shattered Vows
The big ballroom at the Plaza Hotel was full of excitement. The sparkling chandeliers lit up the room, and guests chatted happily in their best clothes, laughing and clinking champagne glasses. It seemed like a perfect night for a wedding. But for Victoria, it felt far from a dream.
Victoria and Louis stood together, looking like the perfect couple. Victoria smiled brightly, but her eyes showed doubt and unease. She seemed calm on the outside, but inside, she felt the pressure of the day and the choices she had made.
'You look handsome," she said to Louis, her smile tense as they posed for another photo.
'And you look beautiful, darling," Louis replied, holding her waist tightly, making it feel more like a warning than a loving gesture. They both knew how to act, and neither wanted to slip up.
As they moved through the crowd, Victoria felt trapped. Her heavy wedding dress felt like a cage, making each step hard. She glanced at Louis, who looked calm and charming, but she knew there was more beneath his perfect smile.
'I need some fresh air," Victoria whispered, her voice barely heard over the noise.
Louis nodded, not looking at her. 'Don't be long. We have to keep up appearances," he said coolly.
Victoria slipped away, finding a quiet corner on the balcony. She took deep breaths of the cool night air, trying to relax before returning to the ballroom.
'Victoria?" a voice surprised her. It was Barry.
'Barry?" she gasped, her heart racing. 'What are you doing here?"
Barry looked great in his tuxedo, his eyes filled with emotions that matched hers — longing and regret. 'I had to see you," he said seriously. 'One last time."
Victoria felt nervous. 'You shouldn't be here. If Louis sees you—"
'Let him," Barry said firmly, stepping closer. 'It's not too late. We can still—"
'No," she interrupted, shaking her head and fighting tears. 'We can't, Barry. It's over."
Barry's face softened as he gently touched her cheek. 'I will always care for you, Vicky. That won't change."
Victoria couldn't find the words. She watched as Barry walked away, leaving her with mixed feelings of relief and sadness. It was over. It had to be.
Trying to calm herself, she saw Louis leaving through a side door. She felt curious and followed him, staying hidden.
Louis walked through the hotel's back corridors to a quiet garden, where the party sounds faded. In the dim light, Amaya waited, hidden in the shadows.
'Louis," Amaya said softly, her voice sad. 'I can't believe you're going through with this."
'I had no choice," Louis replied, sounding tired. 'You know that."
Victoria clenched her fists, feeling angry. No choice? She remembered how excited Louis was when proposing this wedding. Was it all just an act?
'We could run away," Amaya suggested, stepping closer to Louis. 'Leave this behind."
Victoria held her breath, waiting for Louis to answer. For a moment, she thought he might say yes. She saw him hesitate, and panic rose in her.
'I can't," Louis finally said, sounding defeated. 'The consequences… it's not just about me. It's about my family, everything."
Amaya's laugh was sharp. 'Your fortune is what matters, isn't it?"
'It's not like that," Louis protested, but it sounded empty.
'Isn't it?" Amaya challenged, stepping closer to him. 'Tell me you don't love me anymore. Tell me, and I'll walk away."
Victoria's heart raced, waiting for Louis to answer. The silence felt endless. She saw the conflict in his eyes.
Finally, he spoke. 'I can't tell you that," he admitted quietly.
Victoria felt crushed. He hadn't denied it. The truth was clear.
'But I have to keep my promises," Louis said softly. 'This is the end, Amaya. For real this time."
He kissed Amaya gently on the forehead, then walked away, leaving her in tears.
Victoria staggered back, feeling betrayed. She managed to return to the ballroom, where the noise and lights felt overwhelming. Louis came back, looking perfectly fine, as if nothing had happened. He took her hand, smiling. 'There you are, darling. Ready for our first dance?"
Victoria stared at him, her mind racing with the lies and secrets. She realized she had married someone she couldn't trust.
'Of course, husband," she replied coldly. 'Let's put on a show they'll never forget."
Louis smiled, unaware of her change in mood. He led her to the dance floor, and as the music played, they danced perfectly together. To the guests, they looked like a happy couple, but inside, Victoria felt a storm brewing. She was done being fooled. Every step was a promise that she would make Louis pay for his betrayal.
As the night went on, the wind picked up outside, and dark clouds gathered. The air felt heavy, charged with energy. Inside the ballroom, Victoria and Louis continued to dance, looking perfect to everyone else. But Victoria was focused on the future and the revenge she would seek. She was certain Louis would regret their marriage. The storm inside her matched the one outside, and when it finally broke, she knew it would be fierce.
The guests clapped and cheered, unaware of the turmoil brewing.
