A Whisper of Truth
The smell of antiseptic filled the ICU, where the beeping of the heart monitor and the sound of the ventilator were the only noises. Malcolm Sebastian lay still, connected to the machines that were keeping him alive. For weeks, he had been close to death, with his family and doctors waiting for any sign of improvement.
Louis sat next to his father's bed, feeling the heaviness of the last few weeks. The strong man Malcolm used to be now looked weak. Louis held Malcolm's hand, hoping he would wake up and show them he was still fighting.
'Dad," Louis whispered, breaking the silence. 'I don't know if you can hear me, but we need you. I need you. Everything's falling apart, and I don't know how to fix it."
Malcolm stood still, his eyelids flickering but not opening. Louis sighed, feeling tired. The company was in chaos, Victoria was still in trouble, and even though they had a small bit of hope from the security footage, it felt like they were making no progress.
As Louis sat there, lost in thought, he felt a slight movement in his father's hand. He looked down, his heart racing as he saw Malcolm's fingers move a little. Louis leaned in closer, excited.
'Dad?" Louis said urgently, squeezing Malcolm's hand again. 'Can you hear me?"
Malcolm's eyes opened slowly, blinking at the bright lights. At first, he looked confused, but then he seemed to recognize Louis. It was a small movement, but it was more than he had done in weeks.
'Dad, you're awake," Louis said, relief flooding his voice. He pressed the call button for the nurse but kept his eyes on Malcolm. 'You're in the hospital. You're safe."
Malcolm's lips moved, and he struggled to breathe. He tried to speak, but his voice was very weak. Louis leaned in closer, trying to hear what he was saying.
'Am… Amaya…" Malcolm whispered urgency in his eyes.
Louis frowned, trying to understand. 'Amaya? What about her, Dad? What do you mean?"
Malcolm squeezed Louis's hand weakly, gasping for breath. 'Set… up… Victoria…"
Louis's eyes widened as he understood. Malcolm was telling him that Amaya was involved and that she was the reason Victoria was in jail. Louis's mind raced as he tried to think through everything.
'Dad, are you saying Amaya framed Victoria?" Louis asked urgently. 'Can you tell me more?"
Malcolm struggled to speak, his eyes begging for help. But it was too hard; his breathing became shallow, and the heart monitor beeped faster, showing he was in distress. Louis looked toward the door, wishing the nurse would come quickly as panic rose inside him.
'Hang on, Dad," Louis urged, squeezing his hand. 'We're going to fix this. I promise."
The nurse rushed in, followed by a doctor. They quickly checked Malcolm and adjusted the machines. Louis felt helpless but hoped they would help.
'Is he going to be okay?" Louis asked, fear in his voice.
The doctor looked serious but calm. 'He's stable, but he's still very weak. It's a good sign that he can communicate, but we need to keep him calm."
Louis nodded, still thinking about what Malcolm had said. It wasn't much, but it confirmed what he thought: Amaya was behind the setup. She had framed Victoria, and Malcolm knew it.
As the medical team worked on Malcolm, Louis sat down, thinking fast. He needed to act on this information to help clear Victoria's name. But how? Malcolm was too weak to give more details.
Louis pulled out his phone and called Whitman. 'Charles, it's Louis. My dad woke up—he said something about Amaya setting up Victoria. I think he knows the truth."
Whitman's voice was sharp and alert. 'That's big, Louis. If Malcolm could testify, it could change everything. But we need proof."
'I know," Louis said, thinking quickly. 'But right now, he's too weak to say more. We need to find another way to prove this."
Whitman paused. 'We need to keep searching. If Malcolm knew about the setup, there might be more evidence we haven't found.
Look into his communications, his meetings—anything that could help us."
Louis nodded, feeling determined. 'I'll get on it. We're close, Charles. I can feel it."
After hanging up, he looked back at his father, who had fallen unconscious again. The brief moment of clarity had given him hope. Louis knew he had to act fast.
He stood by Malcolm's bedside, feeling strong. This was about more than just saving Victoria—it was about honoring her father and standing up for the truth. Louis understood the road ahead would be tough, but he was ready to fight, using the information his father had given him.
As he left the ICU, Louis felt a renewed sense of purpose. Things were finally starting to make sense, and he was determined to see this through. For Malcolm, for Victoria, and for their family name, Louis would do everything to find the truth and bring justice.
