Under Siege
As Victoria and Louis got out of their black car, cameras flashed all around them. They held hands tightly, feeling anxious. The sidewalk in front of Sebastian Industries was crowded with reporters shouting questions, eager for any news that would make headlines.
"Are the rumors true, Victoria?"
"Is Sebastian Industries going bankrupt?"
"Can your marriage survive this, Louis?"
With every question, Victoria felt more stressed and struggled to breathe. The noise and bright lights were overwhelming. Each step felt heavy, as if the ground was giving way beneath her. It had been weeks since the news about her supposed embezzlement broke, and they had not found a moment of peace since.
Louis, always protective, held her hand firmly as they pushed through the crowd, looking frustrated but determined. Victoria knew he was hurting too. The constant attention and rumors about their marriage were wearing him down just like they were affecting her.
Once inside the tall building of Sebastian Industries, they felt a bit of relief as the doors shut behind them, blocking out the noise.
Victoria let out a shaky breath, leaning against the wall. She never expected her life to become such a public issue, with their marriage under such scrutiny. It felt like everything was falling apart, and there was no way out.
"I can't take much more of this," she whispered to Louis.
He looked at her with worry. "I know. I'm trying to handle it, but every time we respond, it just gets worse. The press is using every word against us. It's like they want us to fail."
Victoria's heart sank. She knew he was doing his best to protect her and their marriage from the chaos caused by Daniella. But despite their efforts, it seemed like they were losing ground, and the public was eager for more drama.
"They're not just targeting me anymore," she said, her voice shaking. "They're going after us. I don't know how to stop it."
Louis rubbed his face, clearly frustrated. "We need to make a stronger statement. Deny everything and set things straight."
"We've tried that," Victoria replied, frustration in her voice. "No one listens. They want a scandal and will twist the story to get it. I don't know if we can recover from this."
Louis's face hardened with determination. "We can. We must. I won't let Daniella win and destroy what we have."
Victoria wanted to believe him, to think they could get through this together. But the pressure from the media and the rumors about their marriage were becoming too much to bear.
"Do you think they're right?" she suddenly asked, her voice breaking.
Louis looked confused. "What do you mean?"
"Do you think our marriage can survive this?" she asked, her voice filled with emotion.
He softened and pulled her close. "Of course it can. We've faced worse. This is just noise. We'll get through it."
But even as he spoke, Victoria felt doubt creeping in. The media wasn't just reporting; they were creating a story that painted her as the villain and their marriage as failing. The constant headlines were taking their toll.
"They're making it impossible for us to live normally," she said softly. "Everywhere we go, they follow us. I can't keep pretending this isn't affecting me."
Louis wrapped his arms around her, speaking softly into her hair. "I know. I hate this too. But we can't let them win. We can't let their lies tear us apart."
Victoria closed her eyes, trying to breathe slowly. She wanted to trust him and believe they could emerge stronger. But the problems in their relationship were growing, and the doubts were becoming louder.
As they stood together, her phone buzzed again. She pulled back, feeling her heart drop as she read the notification:
"Victoria Sebastian Spotted Alone-Sources Claim Trouble in Paradise."
Her hands shook as she stared at the headline, feeling crushed by the weight of it. The media was relentless, and no matter how many statements they made, the narrative was beyond their control.
Louis saw her expression and glanced at her phone, his jaw tightening as he read the headline. "It's just more lies," he said, trying to reassure her. "Don't let them get to you."
But Victoria felt that no matter how hard they tried, the media would twist the truth. They were always being watched, and the longer this went on, the more she wondered if they could survive it.
"How much longer can we do this?" she asked quietly, feeling exhausted.
Louis didn't respond right away. He just held her tighter, their silence saying a lot. They were both fighting for their marriage, but the weight of everything was heavy, and neither knew how to lift it.
As they left the office, reporters were still waiting, shouting questions:
"Victoria, is your marriage over?"
"Louis, are you still supporting your wife?"
"Is Sebastian Industries in trouble?"
Victoria kept her head down, focusing on her steps as they moved through the crowd. But the questions echoed in her mind long after the reporters were gone.
Driving home in silence, Victoria felt the pressure closing in on them. The media was everywhere, spreading lies, and no matter how hard she tried to ignore it, the truth was clear:
Their marriage was struggling under the pressure, and she didn't know if they could fix it.
